I am saddened by the news of their divorce but it is also rare to see such a healthy and seemingly content/happy couple post decision to separate. Of course I, as a viewer and follower of their helpful content, protected my own hopes for them and thought this is a healthy couple doing tough marriage work in a healthy way, and I’m glad to say I still feel that way. I didn’t grow up with this and it left me scared of relationships and marriage and thinking it’s all fake and no one’s ever truly committed. But I’m glad I proved myself wrong. We are humans… relationships are a part of our lives, they aren’t all that we are, and I’ve learned that even if a marriage doesn’t last til death, it’s more important and meaningful that the result is two happy individuals continuing on their life journey and that their relationship was not a failure, but rather a worthwhile chapter of their lives. This realization was a long time coming, after being a child that just wanted a married mom and dad, to now seeing them as people, as humans, who are now happy in their own way.
Wish y’all the best in parenting your kids as happy and healthy individuals and look forward to more videos ❤
This is an interesting discussion. One of my friends in college told me me one time that he couldn't have happiness as a goal bc "what comes after happiness". I couldn't answer him.
It’s upsetting to see the comments disrespecting Jono and Alicia’s decision, especially when on Facebook they were very open and vulnerable about this very personal matter. They’ve made it clear that they are happy and at peace with the decision. I don’t want to speak for them but with the couple of comments I’ve seen I just want to say that of course someone can be happy and at peace in those circumstances! I actually think it’s a good example of maturity and selflessness during what can be a very explosive and ugly experience.
Sending love from Arizona!!
I think they’re having a hard time with what is for many many many many many people a very difficult and painful circumstance and seeing the pain in their eyes and mannerisms, word choices and body language but hearing “we’re really happy.” 100% it’s their personal business, but it gets messy when their job is directing and advising others on navigating relationships. It’s also difficult to hear advice about honesty and vulnerability when it seems (and im not saying I’m right) but it’s SEEMS that they are in fact being very guarded and dishonest. Again that’s their business if they don’t want the whole world knowing their business (I wouldn’t want that myself) but advising others to be open, honest and vulnerable on a pathway to healing when they don’t SEEM to be exemplifying that at all feels disingenuous and it’s off-putting and misleading to those who may be lead by their examples.
Thank you two (and whoever else is working making these videos) for this wonderful video. I loved it
Good discussion thank you
The intro, mended light camera look is priceless!!
I would love to hear your thoughts on this in the context of someone who is neurodivergent. How could it be adapted to accommodate the difficulty with introspection and expressing emotions?
Thanks You both for your openess... Yeah, people thinks that happiness should be more that it is. But, Joy... How do You think is Joy?
Maybe because soy de Costa Rica, no entiendo bien el concepto.
But to me, maybe is living in peace with ourself?
Just commenting for the algorithm, because 💖💖💖!
Do you think you can analyze being Erica it’s a show about therapy and your take on it would be cool
Such a Dad 😂
I don't want more happiness. I want my family to apologize
Genuine curiosity on this one cause its a seemingly ongoing struggle now, but how do suggest you replace foods that were enjoyable to you, but had to altogether remove when your health requires you not eat them? I'm no good at cooking, can't find a healthy place to order from and just desperately miss one specific unhealthy food... it's exhausting in its own way..
I would rather limit my consumption of an unhealthy food than cut it out entirely. You've got to give up similarly unhealthy foods. I don't know, those are just my two cents.
After ur done with marvel maybe you could explore dc shows like titans the flash supergirl arrow
Hopefully one day
❤
I have zero hope for my marriage now if these two decided to divorce. But I’ll try to find more joy for myself so I won’t be so miserable.
I wouldn't look at it like that. Happy, lasting marriages can and do happen. I can tell you, as a couples' therapist, that the important thing is to deal in truth, integrity, accountability, and kindness. Sometimes that means the couple stays together. Sometimes it doesn't. But it's always healing.
Are you two still together?
Please see our recent community posts :)
I don't want more happiness. I want everyone else to grow up.
How was this posted 4 days before a divorce post???
A divorce doesn't mean the end of happiness/joy. As they said, joy can be found in difficult times. They found that their marriage was no longer fulfilling, so now they're looking for a new path forward.
This doesn't make any sense . You posted this but now you're divorcing!?🤔
Not sure what doesn't make sense about this. Still friends. Still family. There's still love. It's just different. And we're happy.
@@MendedLight I'm just in a state of shock coz I never expected you guys to divorce 😔
As the (now adult) child of divorced parents, I can tell you this. My parents still care for each other. Just last week, my dad helped coordinate buying a new water heater and lining up the plumber and everything when her old one suddenly bit the dust.
But for everyone's mental health, including my siblings and myself, the divorce was the best choice. I don't even want to begin to imagine what would have happened to us had they stayed together for the sake of maintaining the idea of a traditional family, but it wouldn't have been pretty.
I think we as a society need to unpack and move away from the idea that divorce always equals failure. I think in Mended Light's case divorce means evolution. The experience of being married was still successful. It just doesn't meet society's expectations.
@@Bananas904 I understand and as long as they're happy with the choice I'm good. The good part is they're still friends and will be coparenting peacefully
As kids of divorce parents knowing the absolute devastation that divorce is, it's just hurtful hearing you say "we're happy" like we should all believe it. Divorce is the worst. It may be honky dory right now because you are not with other partners or still living in the same city. What if your new partner takes you elsewhere or if their wants are so opposite to what your family is used to? The changes come and the compromises come, and the kids foot the bill. So it's not the appropriate time to be talking about keys to happiness with you two making hearts in the thumbnail. Don't give the appearance of a couple when your divorce is utter devastation for your kids. I can already imagine the gaslighting the kids are getting about their parents breaking their family apart as a "happy time." This is devastating me that is not part of your family.
So why are you divorcing?
They made a post about this the channel's community tab.
Your wife is gorgeous ❤❤❤
I don’t know if you’ve seen their most recent post. They’ve decided to separate.
Yeah I just found out ❤️
I respect that you and your family have decided to do what you believe is best for the family’s welfare. I do feel the need to say that God’s plan for marriage is never divisive. It’s not my place to say that I know what that should look like for your relationship, but as a couple who upholds Christian beliefs this public decision to separate/divorce lends to scandal and conflicting messages.
This is what has bothered me ever since the announcement.
I think your own comment is pretty damn conflicting.
4 days later they divorce 😂 (sorry, wishing them really the best, but, you know)
Not sure if you watched the video. Seems like you didn't. We're quite happy.
I think that is part of the point of what was being said here. Happiness isn’t a binary: if you think there are people out there who just have it all together and live in a state of happiness, you might benefit from more time talking to actual vulnerable humans and less social media. Happiness in dark times, happiness through grief or loss or divorce… that is struggle of being human. Happiness as something you can orient yourself towards internally, so you aren’t relying on external sources of happiness that the world can take away from you.
@Mendedlight, I wish the two of you the courage and fortitude to continue to find happiness in this new chapter of your lives. My parents divorced 30 years ago (not gently), and over the years they became friends again. Now both have remarried, we do family holidays and even vacations as a group. We played mini-golf the other day and my mom ended up on a team with my dad and step-dad. I referred to her team as “Nana and her husbands” and we all laughed about it, including my step-mom. There is more than one type of happy family. ❤
Honesty without tact is cruelty. This wasn't the time or place to say this. And your apology is not landing like you think it is. Just because this is the Internet and this is a open forum, it doesn't mean we shouldn't observe the expectations of common courtesy.
Idk they are giving off force positivity, which it seems like they are covering up the hurt. Things definitely and it’s obvious they will put on a brave face for the channel , ( it’s their income after all) but definitely some underlining unhealthy and toxic positivity.
@@ashesandposiesI think you said this well there can be toxic positivity. We don’t understand the situation but what I do know is they are both lovely people I genuinely enjoy listening to.
Would love to see a collab with talefoundry Georgia dow and the take
