A completely transparent keyboard with a built-in display - Flux Keyboard Preview

- This is the Flux Keyboard, a keyboard with an integrated Full HD display, so you can switch between any language, any wallpaper or any software hotkey set you can imagine. The keyboard uses mechanical Maglev switches with 4mm of travel, which utilise rare earth magnets and are able to provide a satisfying ultra-low friction feel. The key position is sensed based on their magnetic field, so there is no touch screen involved and no accidental clicks like typing on a touch screen.
The keys are also set in a removable frame which makes possible to instantly switch between a tactile or linear keys and makes it much easier to clean compared to a conventional keyboard.

this is truly innovative!
amazing. cant wait for it to be implemented on laptops
Since this channel is gaining traction, here since 200 subs! This is something revolutionary to the keyboarding scene and at first I thought it was just a concept but it is now turned into a kickstarter project(early bird also lol) Very promising to see something so modular, customizable, and functional to different softwares/games that it just makes sense to invest in something like this. Don't get me wrong but as nice as custom keebs, it's mainly just for aesthetics and THOCKINESS. This is something along the lines of the "*touchscreen with a mechanical twist*".
I've been looking for a keyboard like this for a long time and my dream comes true.
how does one come to the conclusion they want something like this before seeing this video
@@Chris-dy1cb have a look at the razer switchblade concept from 2011. I've been waiting for something like that ever since I first saw it 12 years ago.
@@_herb thats actually crazy this was a concept a decade ago. Cool to see it finally come to fruition
if this tries to undercut centerpieces price, most def will buy 😂
Yeah same xD
idk man, gaming on this would be painful, i personally need propper switches
@@xguysOG yeah but it hasn’t come out yet so we don’t know how the switches are yet, but i completely agree. more of an aesthetic thing than anything
@@xguysOG idk it could be better than traditional mechanical keyboards! as long as it doesn't feel like a membrane (which it doesn't sound like atleast)
It might even seem to have less pre and post travel which would make it quite accurate for gaming (as long as it has a set actuation point that isnt near the bottom of the key stroke)
Actuation point is completely adjustable with 0.1mm increments
this is a crazy idea not gonna lie
this looks amazing... i will buy
At 450$?
Now available on our Kickstarter page for USD349 www.kickstarter.com/projects/fluxkeyboard/flux-keyboard-the-keyboard-reinvented/description
Watching this video after centerpiece was announced 😮
Would love to know if there was a full keyboard option, but either way I love the idea!
There are some plans for a numpad add on but you could get a separate numpad in the mean time.
Very cool product, I hope the screen will show some kind of feedback when we press a key to indicate that it's pressed so that we can see it not just feel it. Also this feature has to be optional too
They showed some demo in one of their shorts of fireworks going off with each key press so honestly possible
Now, make a slim version to fit on the new Framework 16, and you're set for life...
Also just backed it, fingers crossed!!!
Told myself no more keyboards..... Dammit
Here since xxx subs. I just want to say how much more value my comment has because I was here before others!
this is actually so cool. great stuff. how do u manage to make it tactile tho if its maglev? are there 3 magnets as opposed to 2?
Yes there are 3 magnets per key
This technology is seriously possible.
You basically make a literal iPad but the whole OS is just a keyboard, then you make a transparent layer for the keys but add a type of synthetic membrane that would touch the touchscreen at one side of the transparent keyboard layer.
Any company can make it true. We have the tech already
There's no need to make screen a touch screen. It's way simpler than that.
Congratulations it looks really great! :D
I would have if possible just one question: since the image of the keys is on the monitor while the physical key has a certain height in order to see correctly aligned the image with its corresponding key I have to be exactly at a certain angle from the keyboard or to what extent, even if not positioned exactly in front of the keyboard I can recognize the various keys?
Thank you and excuse me for my English :P
Hi yes there is some parallax but you can still see the keys from a variety of angles, see the typing demo or the website for other angles.
Das könnte massiv genial werden, wenn:
This keyboard is the coolest and Thockiest ever made
I think I was the inspiration for such keyboard ;]
Only just heard about this campaign, will buy when available through general sale.
I want one.
Very coollll! Aesthetics over function any day 🫰
Split Keyboard PLEASE!!
I hope latency won't be too bad.
Oh man. Maybe an ortholinear option the future? Thinking about getting this one tbh
im so getting one of these lmao!
Take my money
Do you also offer modular parts that can be put on the side instead on the top?..
this is truly amazing, whats would be the price of this in the future
Price being announced soon, subscribe and sign up on the website to be the first to know
How many keys would you be able to have pressed down at once?
What will be the difference in the linear and tactile models? I'm asking because the switches are analog? What is "superior" version? I like tactile boards but wouldn't mind going linear for this one if it means a shoddy tactile experience.
Very subjective, the prototype force curves are on the website under specs, I would say for gaming with linear function probably linears, typing and general use probably tactile, you can buy both frames and swap between them if you want.
i need one
i hope this keyboard is waterproof for drinks that could get spilled on it
Will it have analog output? I wold assume it could since the switch would work similarly with the woothing lekker switch right?
Hey, have you ever thought about sending a sample to unbox therapy?
Please make one for Lenovo Yoga 9i
Make it split and columnar
Cool keyboard
Do i need it? No
Do i want it? Yes
that moment when your monitor becomes obsolete because included in your keyboard
when the product will be released?will it be worldwide?
i hope it’s just the prototype that sounds like this. It would be perfect if they could make it sound thocky
how is the typing feel achieved, because magnets are anything but linear/ tactile
Man, it’s gonna be expensive, but I’ll just have to suck it up I guess 😂
👍
Will there be an extended keyboard version with number pad, etc?
Hi, there are USB ports on both sides so you can add a numpad. We are also planning to roll out a Flux numpad next.
If I would have the money, I would just buy this for the fact I dont have to mess with a dirty keyboard anymore...
Wow
Gonna admit my mind is blown and can't comprehend how tf this works 😂
Bc it's just a concept and doesn't actually exist yet
@@fatenuller8128 so you think this entire video is computer generated?
If only I had money.
it looks cool but i don't look forward to how it'll feel to type on
you have model hands
I can change the Windows symbol to Tux, right?
Tony Stark's keyboard?
Hi, thanks for your support! If enough demand we will release a JIS keyboard in the future
How customizable is it?
Can I make my own layout with exactly the buttons I want?
Can I search for a sign and get it typed or get the key combination to light up?
Can I buy some layouts?
Can I program it myself so that for example Ctrl + Alt makes the Delete button light up as a recommendation?
Can people make their own layouts and sell them via your store for others to test?
Hi Martin, thanks for your questions. The Flux Keyboard is very customisable! You can create your own backgrounds and layouts and upload to the Flux Keyboard using our Flux Polymath software, and also customise your own key mappings through the software. Possibly in the future we will introduce a store where people can make layouts and sell them online.
Thats really cool, cant wait to choose keys for ~, {}, [], @@fluxkeyboard
Very cool. How much $?
USD450 excluding dial modules, which are USD30 extra each
In for two.
これ、もしキーレイアウトとか、動作圧とかが変えられたらいいんだけど、現状はただの自作キーボードと変わりはない気がする
Why?
Shame this keyboard can’t do analogue, though a surface keyboard could maybe but were a long way from Star Trek interfaces unless there is a need
The switches are analog hall effect!
@nameX nameX it uses levitated tactile keys so they have velocity senstivity i would assume programable it all depends on how the software works and if there is a Hardware system inside the keyboard to make it function like a tablet and not software controlled, THIS is they MAJOR issue with a lot of the keyboards that had Onboard graphical keys, I wanted an Optimus keyboard for like YEARS but it never really came to market properly THIS i'll be backing for sure, 540 Aus Diggery dollars is good for what it in and for me i play a space sim with a tactile keyboard already this keyboard looks like a MASSIVE upgrade in style and performance, (the current gen model of my current keyboard also use maglev)
i onlky want to know how far they will go with modules as all of this comes in to the exsact interface i want for my simulation just need to know the graphical side will be custom too.
I thought this was the final mouse keyboard
What’s price going to look like?
Now available on our Kickstarter page for USD349 www.kickstarter.com/projects/fluxkeyboard/flux-keyboard-the-keyboard-reinvented/description
Damn
Idk if an ipad with a Keyboard case is worth $500
😮😮😮😮😮😮❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ that's ALL i need 😢😢❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ 🎉
when will it release?
@@fluxkeyboard I thought you said that pre-orders will be starting in February, when are they starting...?
Slight delays in getting the ads together
Yo this is so cool… but too expansive sadly!
It’s not too expensive all things considered.
Every switch has a PCB built within, jesus christ this is going to be expensive
just 1 PCB will all the sensors behind the screen
how to buy it
You can pre-order on our website fluxkeyboard.com/
Finalmouse Centerpiece is getting dumped by this
how can i get it in malaysia
Hi, we are shipping worldwide and you can order on Kickstarter www.kickstarter.com/projects/fluxkeyboard/flux-keyboard-the-keyboard-reinvented/description
I wonder if this keyboard is more for aesthetic versus (vibes) durable for gaming.
If this is an elgato stream deck on steroids it could be insanely useful. But honestly until third party reviews come out I’m iffy. Especially since with kickstarter they could just take the money and run.
и как оно работает
Is it ~80%?
75% plus modules so could be 80
can i be one of the first to try and review?
so its just an ipad configured to act like a keyboard?
Not an ipad, more a keyboard with clear keys so you can see the screen display at the back and customise layout. Please visit our website for more details fluxkeyboard.com/
Back again, do ya'll plan on sending out review copies to anyone? Like some other youtubers to test out? LTT, MKBHD, Glarses, Hamaji, Hipyo tech, etc.
Hi stripes, yes we are planning to send out review units going forward
@@fluxkeyboard I’ll instantly join the kickstarter gb when you do. Thanks!!
Did finalmouse not patent this tech lol
This is not new technology and has been around but is being used in keyboards
What is the max price this item would be? I'd imagine one can switch to a game pad layout in the future.
This feels very team Lab
I bet this would be at least $300? The backing screen would likely need to be OLED, and it will be very expensive to get the real product to look this clean.
@@fatenuller8128 The display is IPS. About price: "The keyboard will cost between US$299 - $350 after discounts for pre-orders with a retail price of US$450. "
Any news?

I don't hate this idea ngl, but...500AUD????????
No it's a keyboard!
@@fluxkeyboard I would love to get one obv, buy I could get a whole new laptop with that amount of moneyñ
better use thunderbolt cuz having to plug in an HDMI cord would kill this
USB C, display is driven by an integrated processor so you don't need an additional display out or consume system resources.
A nice keyboard for cod and bow where's the link 😂 but i would like to us e it for cod
Thanks for the FYI, link now posted fluxkeyboard.com/
Looks more CGI tbh
Hi, I can confirm all our videos are actual footage with no CGI
fishy
I'm very sorry but who is this aimed at? I don't see any use cases other than appearance.
weird

Well, why not ortholinear? You are losing a great chance!
Hi, ortholinear is on the cards for future production. Cheers
SCHEMATICS OR DIE
This post was made by the #RIGHTTOREPAIR gang.
Whats the point of a product like this msot people can't even afford
cause it aint for you
I hit the 1000th like on this video and I have screen recorded evidence of it. Do I get a Flux Keyboard for free? 🥺👉👈🤡
Had an opportunity to ditch staggered and go ortholinear, to ditch Qwerty and showcase literally any better ergonomic layout, to ditch Ctrl on left pinky and instead place above shift like HHKB, to ditch an unnecessarily long space-bar and place alt keys within thumb reach. Could actually be interesting. As it is now though, it's just pushing novelty(although pretty cool) through a layout derivative of a ridiculously outdated and unergonomic design.
Looks like a gimmick, good luck
$500 you can keep your stupid monitor who even looks at the keyboard when typing????
