    You two are just incredible! I can’t say enough good things about your videos. They are full of useful information, they convey the love of gardening the two of you share, and they are relatable to the average person who has a yard to garden in, not acres. Truly, you should be the most viewed gardening channel on RUclips.

    I love you two! Your enthusiasm for plants is just awesome and I appreciate seeing a great couple who is so stoked about plants as I am. I ordered my first David Austin (a Gertrude Jekyll climber) and it is supposed to arrive on Tuesday. There is one nursery here in Reno that carries David Austins, so I'm planning on putting some in containers as soon as they come in. But thanks, you two, for your help with getting my rose started.

    • @sonievkay

      Elizabeth Davis whats rose did you purchase? and what zone? u need good drainage for the root since roses hate sitting in water. when you water, only aim for the base of the plant and avoid the leaves. another thing is making sure there’s good air circulation flowing through the plant by cuting branches you dont need.

    Nice to make this video but you must remember that any David Austin rose suited for a container needs a pot twice as large as what you are using. After up potting your rose, the smallest pot needs to be a minimum of 24 inches by 24 inches, and that is for their smallest size rose. Gertrude Jekyll is a pretty large bush especially when grown in the south and best for in the ground planting. Very few Austin roses are good for pot culture even if they say they are. After all, they are in the business to sell roses so the sizes they list for their plants are a big understatement of what they will actually be depending on your zone of course.

    Terrific video, I'm glad to see the roses doing so well in containers bec I hope to plant one in a pot later this year. Question: do you find the English roses excessively thorny? I've been admiring the Lady Emma Hamilton for years but hesitate to get one bec I've heard her thorns are big & plentiful. Any opinion on that? Thanks.

    Have you ever grown baby roses? I don't remember the exact name of them but I used to have some years ago when I lived elsewhere and they were thornless. So easy to care for and no pests eating the leaves.

I will try to make a video showing her soon. She is doing amazing has two beautiful roses and is filled with buds! Hydrangeas and roses! 😍 Got to love them. 😃💐💚💚💚💚💚💚

      Goodmorning my sweet friend!!! 😃💚 I’ve become obsessed with David Austin’s! I do love all roses but these are just incredible! 😍 There are some almost thornless varieties they are usually used in high traffic areas or where children play. I have one called Brother Cadfael DA with red beautiful stems, blooms huge globular flowers and scent is just amazing! It forms thorns on old wood and new growth don’t have any but you can hardly see them it’s like it doesn’t have thorns. DA has some and there is other varieties. I might look into it and probably make a video. With kiddos and fur babies it is a reason many people shy away from these beauties. Have a beautiful day my friend! 💐💚💚💚💚💚💚🤗😘

    I ordered this rose bare root from DA for spring shipment 2023. But it has just been reasoned to 7-10. I am in zone 5. Would it be a higher likelihood it would survive it I planted it in a pot and moved the pot to a garage in winter?

    My first David Austin was Olivia Rose and the second one was Queen’s jubilee celebration. Unfortunately the second one did not last more than 5 months prior to blooming as i didnt know i had to remove the fluffy thing they provide and it caused root rot.

    Did you guys buy these as the 2 quart? Or the bare root? I’m having a hard time deciding which to get but this video is the reason Darcy bussell & lady Emma are in my wishlist on the website 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

    • @GardenObsessions
      @GardenObsessions  3 года назад +2

      So the smaller Gertrude Jekyll are two quart we ordered from David Austin. Lady Emma and Darcy were bought as three gallon from a local nursery in North Carolina. We’ll be honest but Lady Emma hasn’t performed well in a container but we have no room for in ground planting. You can also see Gertrude in one of our videos after a year of growth. ruclips.net/video/V_uwbG5NWSU/видео.html
