This is the million dollar question!
I wish I saw this before! After debating I finally followed the instructions and just planted my 1 gallon David Austin roses on the ground. I wanted to keep them in my planters and baby them for a 1 year or so.
It is always better to be safe than sorry. I do like to baby mine for a year also. Thank you for watching.

I've ordered from David Austin (USA) before & I don't recall any such warranty-vooiding prohibition, in fact, I don't recall anything about planting in pots at all, but maybe it's new or I'm forgetting. I still wouldn't do it unleass I had an architechtural size pot. If you want to see some really goofy restrictions, check out Edmund's Roses, my word, everything but requiring a blessing from the pope (just kidding!). PAOK is spectacular, I'm getting one (or 2, or 3) of those this spring!! Thanks so much for giving us rosy folks the REAL scoop!
That's good to know. I tried this last year with Munstead wood in a 24in x 20in pot. They actually did well and had almost no weeds. I broke them up after the season ended because I'd rather have a row of 3 close together. We'll see how that goes!

This video has been such an encouragement to me. My back patio is completely paved over and I’ve begun planting roses in pots, always wondering if they will last for more than a couple of years in a pot. It seems that in a moderately sized pot, you can get decades out of your potted rose bush. I suppose the real question is keep an eye on the drainage. I have visions of my roses lasting years and years in the same pot and thriving! Thanks for your very enlightening video!
@@TheRoseGeek Thank you so much for your kind reply. I live in Monterey, CA where the temperatures are quite cool during summer. For example, during this month of July, the temperature as barely risen above 70 degrees. Therefore water evaporates much more slowly than in a hotter climate. However, what gives me hope is the fact that, despite everyone always saying that roses need lots and lots of sun, South East England has the exact same climate zone as where I live (9b) and just look at what gorgeous roses can be cultivated there! So, yes I am living by my water meter! My roses can go for up to 10 or 12 days without water just because the temperatures are so low during the night of summer.

Thanks for the sharing what they do to achieve that look. I've always loved their photos of very full pots but have been afraid to try it. I did put 4 different Agastache in a huge pot this year, but 2 grew faster than the other 2 and just about choked them to death. BTW love your shirt!

@TheRoseGeek I had planted on weekend 1 bare root bush in a 21 inch wide and length pot. I originally wanted to put 2. Now I will go back and rearrange to fit another of same, kordes highly perfumed, Dark Desire

The fullness of the pots with these roses was so amazing. I just potted up 2 containers with 2 bareroot roses combined in each. I am excited to see the results. They are just bare roots from Aldi. They usuually do ok for me. Thank you for sharing.🌸🌹🌹🌹🌹🌼🎀😊

After that video I have been planning to redo few containers with roses; I would like to try adding 3 roses to a container, no DA, and see the results. Maybe choosing similar varieties like planting 3 different veranda roses together, they have similar height and width.

Wait, what?! Did you say planting more than one voids their warranty but that's exactly what they do themselves? lol. Thanks for the video I'm definitely going to start putting more than one rose in my larger pots. Looks amazing.
I think it’s important for people to understand that some roses are simply too large to put multiple in a container. I planted Lady Emma in January this year, tiny bare root in 25”x25” container, absolutely could have fit more than one. She’s still quite a petite shrub. Planted Earth Angel bare root at the same time, same size container, and it’s absolutely massive now. That would have been a mistake, I would no doubt be having to transplant in summer or next year.
It’s all about pruning

@@TheRoseGeek right now I like the light pink queen of Sweden. However, A short climber on an obelisk would be amazing to add another dimension to a potted DA rose.
Did you also notice more than 2 climbers in a pot? I’m thinking about potting up two tess durveille.

So I just ordered lady of shallot and sentimental (wanted something different) so they don't say they can be potted but I just seen a lady of shallot in a pot there, I'm so upset I didn't order 2 more of each bc I did want them in pots so for just 1 so I can have the warranty what size pit do you think so they will look full???

A 32 or 33 gallon trash can is close to those measurements😀
I know that means have got to buy a number six I've got three bear roots for three big pots and that's why they don't look as full I'm going to plant them and then I'm going to get more during the summer to put in. That won't affect the rose will it had in another rose? Thankyou
I have four pots currently with two in each pot. They have been fine for the last two season. Just watch yours to ensure that they don't have any issues. Remember to give them regular feedings of fertilizer. Best of luck!
What about air circulation problem if we put 2-3 so close together?

Great video. I don’t see any black spot where my David Austin roses are covered in black spot.
They must spray. I don't think I saw pollinators in this garden. My DAs are covered in Black Spot in zone 7b but I have a ton of pollinators. #goorganic. Thank you for watching.
Thank you for your reply. As I don’t live that far from David Austin roses I have been there but never thought to ask about black spot. On there website they are saying spray with Fungus Clear so I must try that.

I cannot afford very big pots so I plant one rose in a pot. This year I have decided to reduce the number of plants in pots quite drastically because they need a lot of water, more than those planted in the ground, and also because in my zone (6b) the pots must be put somewhere for the winter months. It is back-breaking work and I always have to ask someone to do it for me.

I actually do not put the pots away, just cover in in large burlap or jute sacks, and the roses have survived -20 C and strong winds this way. Neither my knees nor my back could handle those pots!
