2:00 I paused the video and cried for a moment. Dr. Charlotte W. was my biology teacher when she was killed. I was young and had no time to cry for due to what was going on with my mental health. It was just 6 years after 1994 genocide. She was an angel, she touched our hearts, I think about her almost everyday especially when I am talking about science. We had other VSO volunteers like you who were teaching Chemistry and English, they made us who we are. We owe you a lot and can’t thank you enough.
Oh, goodness. Thank you for sharing such a personal memory. I never met her, but it was a real shock for the VSO team and many of them had worked with her and remembered her fondly. My manager at the time had introduced her to her fiancé. Later on I met one of her friends who came back to Rwanda to commemorate her death. Her parents also set up a fund that VSOs could apply to for support with their projects. They donated towards the dictionary of sign language I was working on with the Rwandan National Union of the Deaf. It's nice to hear that she made a difference and that the work VSO did (and continues to do) is so appreciated. 🙏
