Rwanda is called "The country of thousand hills." In another hand, it may also be called "The country of thousand lies." Just imagine, the former president of Rwanda Mr. Paul Kagame passed away 2 years ago, instead of announcing his death, they make a mask of his image from Germany, then they gave it to a comedian who used to imitate Paul Kagame's voice, and immediately they changed the original official photo of Paul Kagame and they announced the new masked photo as the official photo, so that no one should compare both photos of the president!!! The only people who can change the situation is us,encouraging people to clean their environment recycle stop using plastic will be a great initiative.
South Africa needs a system that works. 1st the illegal entrants that are over crowding our country! 2cnd The Citizens need to fight for a better change. We have the potential to grow but we gave the power to the wrong people "Umzabalazo gang" needs to leave now. Ever heard our Ministers public / parlament speeches? Every damn time😥 are so embarassing. How would people like that care about keeping the country clean 😢😟! Our leaders visions are questionable.

I went from West Virginia don't to Rwanda. Interesting. Nice to see a white person speak positively of an African Experience and nation. It shows enlightened growth over the Centuries
Mark "don't ask people if they're hutu or Tutsi" Me in my head "who does that?"...... I Slowly realized that there'll be overenthusiastic Karen's who will do exactly that😲😲😲
When I flew out this week from Kigali airport, in the departure lounge an old expat manager started insulting congolese travellers and then i went for smoking he joined me started asking if i were a hutu or a tutsi because he prefers the former. He was not even drunk, certainly provocative to seek attention and show how long he has been living and working in Rwanda... Sad but true some people still act like morons.. 😞
I went to teach English there just last month and one of the ladies in my group had asked a survivor of the genocide at one of the genocide memorials if “the person in power now is Tutsi or Hutu”. It was so mortifying to watch.
I am a Brit who has been working in Rwanda since 2018. This guy is absolutely right on almost every aspect I just take issue a bit with the need to use cash. Kigali is a very card friendly place compared to a lot of countries in the region. Of course use cash in a market or small local shop but when I am in Kigali I live off my (Visa & Mastercard) cards. Otherwise impressively accurate!!!
EAC complicated. In some countries, cards are rarely used and cash too because people prefer to use mobile money. You can easily go for weeks or even months without touching cash in a country like Kenya.
My brother and I (Gambians) had a wonderful time in Rwanda. Beautiful country, beautiful landscape, loved the hills, clean! We just left 1st November, 2022. It was amazing! Oh and I used the motortaxi. Loved, loved it!
I have been thinking of visiting this country of Rwanda for more than 6yrs now. I will not stop thinking of it until one day it shall come to pass. Is still in my travel adventure budget.
Can I just say that I love how you show your kids that the world is much bigger then the United States. They will be so well rounded and respectful of different cultures.
Thank you for this. Recently I heard an european reporter interviewing Rwanda's president and she was still asking about questions about the genocide as if it was still happening today. He was beside himself about the ignorant of western media. The fact that a developing country already made single use plastic bags illegal and how clear their streets are, is a lesson we all should learn NOW in North America. We go around and lecture the world about climate change but we are the ones that greenwash things. We just have to do better.
Well, but it's understandable. Consider how much/often the Holocaust is discussed in Europe, the number of movies about the war, about resistance movements, ... the newspaper articles, remembrance days, etc. So, based on this, and given that the Rwandan genocide is more recent, the reporter may have assumed the genocide is a big topic in Rwanda.
Well, but we were always told western journalists are non bias and will dig at source until they reveal the truth. They portrait that in media as well so which is true?

Wow! I had never even considered Rwanda really, but everything in this video makes it seem like a great place for someone like me to visit! Put it on the list! Thanks Mark!
Don't hesitate to visit Rwanda. It's a beautiful country and the Rwandans are very respectful and friendly. Hotels in Kigali are clean and modern, the food is good and the weather's nice. Plenty of rain for us Brits! On my second visit, the passport guy at the airport said "Welcome back". That's never happened anywhere else.

I agree with all but the water.... Culligan Made 2 treatment plants in Kigali and 1 in Gisenyi. So you can brush your teeth with tap water with confidence. I have been doing that last 7 years and it is super safe. Thanks for the video....
One of my friends was recently there for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Summit and he shared with me what a beautiful country it is . This video has now sealed the deal for me . I will now begin my research and plan my trip.
Man, I kind love you as a human being. You help a lot of people with those "Don'ts". They are great to have a nice trip, and still be respectful with the local culture and costumes. Have a nice day!
I spent a month in Kenya last summer and visited Ugunja, Kisumu, Nairobi and Malindi. I really enjoyed my stay and I got treated very well. One thing that bothered me, however, was that wherever we went, the streets and ditches were littered with garbage! Plastic bags are illegal in Kenya also (aswell as littering) but there doesn't seem to be anyone cleaning the streets. There also aren't any public trash cans... I think if Kenya would implement better waste treatment procedures, like Rwanda, the country would be so much more attractive for tourists. The whole of Africa could learn from Rwanda I think.
Just came back from Rwanda 4 days ago. You said it all, spot on! Another dont I would add, is dont raise your voice or argue in public. Its really not well seen in our culture. Also very important! Do not drink and drive. Rwanda has a 0 alcohol on the wheel tolerance. 5 days of Prison mandatory, even for foreigners.

Amazing description of the country, its fully done! Rwandans do like extrovert and open minded people...so plz if u come here be open and sharing, people in rwanda are really lovely, anyone in the street can direct u where u want to go if u ask them and are okay when asking them any service, if u want to have a lift...u can stop any car, What really amazed me the first time was the day i was on the bus station and people with their cars would stop to ask if anyone would need a lift. Welcome in Rwanda!
I also need to comment on the Genocide Memorial. I knew it would be tough but I had no idea what an emotional toll it would take on me. As I went through I kept getting more and more sad. I was there with my Rwandan friend. One of the last rooms we saw was full of human skulls with machete cuts (most of the killing was done with machetes). This pushed me completely over the edge and I had to sit down because I was crying so hard. Once I composed myself I was ready to continue. This is most certainly not a place for children! There are 250,000 Rwandans buried at the memorial. Please be respectful in this place! Most Rwandans like my friend, have family buried in these mass graves. Remember that this all happened just 30 years ago.
Thank you! Can't wait to be there in February. Thanks for pointing out the tip box at the hotel! What I learnt? Rwanda is right hand drive. Also, no plastic, but lots of plastic water bottles.
I lived in Rwanda for a year. We spent three days in Akagera National Park and literally got to camp there. One or two lions were hunting and passed right by our tent that night and we were still awake and making noise before we heard them, that was kinda scary. I also took a selfie next to a sleeping crocodile. The baboons took the wing mirror off of our van as well. Those days were crazy. We also spent a week or two by lake Kivu, but we lived on a steep hill near Kigali.
I was born there and I live in USA but tbh it very honor if someone comes and appreciate and say everything no cap. Friends visit Rwanda you will thank me after thank you for your amazing video. They will see more. If you go there you will miss KIGALI CITY EVERYDAY

Excellent review! I appreciate your positive take on everything even on the negatives. So many professionals can take a lesson from you and how you conducted your interview about africa. So many negative reviews about Africa and sometimes it becomes overwhelming. Good job!
We had the pleasure of exploring Rwanda a few years ago. We rode the local buses and explored Akagera and Nyungwe (though the swinging bridge was nearly my undoing. I'm scared of heights!) We boated across to Bat Island in Lake Kivu, and rode the twisty, hilly road to Nyungwe via bus....which has a local name I won't use. Luckily, no one in our party gets carsick. We thoroughly enjoyed meeting people and exploring the country. Murakoze, Rwandans.
YOU HAVE A GREAT HEART AND A GREAT SPIRIT. YOU HAVE REALLY EDUCATED THE WORLD ABOUT HUMANITY, LOVE AND RESPECT. MORE IMPORTANTLY, ABOUT THE AMAZING TRANSFORMATION OF RWANDA. GOD BLESS YOU!
Rwanda is a prosperous, safe, well-governed & modern nation. And also one of cleanest countries in the world. It has a cool climate & is the Switzerland of Africa. But only 2% of the population is Moslm. 94% of the population is Christian. About time they took in lots of Moslm refugees. Let the Moslm rafoojees enjoy the prosperity of the most successful nation in Africa. Let those Afghans, Pakistanis, Bangladeshis, Syrians, Libyans, Yemenis, Moroccans, Algerians, Somalis, Sudanese, Pulustinians & Iraqis turn Rwanda into another Sweden. This is the part of the Wyt Progressive agenda. Dstroy any successful & affluent African nation & make us dependent on them. Bravo UK. Good plan 👍🏿

you are very welcome in the country of thousands hills and mountains. Respect, culture, and cleanness are our main characteristics ❤️❤️❤️❤️.

Rwanda is a world leader in clean, safe, developing, conservation and order. Nothing negative to see there. Beautiful place, beautiful people.
So amazing to hear the truth from outside
I’m really impress how Rwanda promotes cleanliness. I would love to visit one day.
Welcome
Rwanda is not only Kigali just go outside of Kigali and see how people suffer

Welcome in Rwanda 🇷🇼🇷🇼😂
It is a good thing to have another African country promoting cleanliness and orderliness. I m proud of Rwandans
I wish my country South Africa was this clean, thumbs up Rwanda 👍👍👍
Banzi south africa used to be clean problem is we got a lot of illegal settlements they don't get services from municipality and a lot of undocumented foreigners is overwhelming . The only people who can change the situation is us,encouraging people to clean their environment recycle stop using plastic will be a great initiative.
...its bad lana mfetho. Was in Rwanda ziyawa strong
The people I see throwing trash out their car window is the locals
South Africa needs a system that works. 1st the illegal entrants that are over crowding our country! 2cnd The Citizens need to fight for a better change. We have the potential to grow but we gave the power to the wrong people "Umzabalazo gang" needs to leave now. Ever heard our Ministers public / parlament speeches? Every damn time😥 are so embarassing. How would people like that care about keeping the country clean 😢😟! Our leaders visions are questionable.
Same😭😭
Far cleaner and more orderly than I had imagined. It looks to be a beautiful country.
It really was beautiful
They have a GREAT leader and they kicked out the french. So everything is calm now 😂😂
@@RUTHLESSambition5 not until Paul sells Rwanda too french, congolese and uganda

I am from Rwanda, 100% I agree with you!, but I would like to say that, you can use tap water anything you want include brushing but no drinking it.
What is wrong with the tap water?
@@kamvazenani4153 nothing at all
Sorry but if you can't drink the water why would you put it in your mouth at all? Unnecessary risk imo.
@@lakewood145 Actually many local people drink it including me. So Foreigners thinks it's not okey, but still use them when they are brushing. Logically if you can brush/bath with it then you can even drink it!
@diane Taylor yes that's why I said Foreigner don't, because there are not used to it.
I went from West Virginia don't to Rwanda. Interesting. Nice to see a white person speak positively of an African Experience and nation. It shows enlightened growth over the Centuries
Honestly, after this video, I want to visit Rwanda. Looks so beautiful ❤️

Mark "don't ask people if they're hutu or Tutsi"
Me in my head "who does that?"......
Rawanda 1994
I went to teach English there just last month and one of the ladies in my group had asked a survivor of the genocide at one of the genocide memorials if “the person in power now is Tutsi or Hutu”. It was so mortifying to watch.
I had a friend who asked a Rwandan woman that. I had to pull him aside and explain why it was offensive.
The cleanliness of the place is truly a sight to behold… respect to the people of Rwanda 🇷🇼 for leading the way for the rest of the world 👍
I am a Brit who has been working in Rwanda since 2018.
What's wrong with using cash?
My brother and I (Gambians) had a wonderful time in Rwanda. Beautiful country, beautiful landscape, loved the hills, clean! We just left 1st November, 2022. It was amazing! Oh and I used the motortaxi. Loved, loved it!
I have been thinking of visiting this country of Rwanda for more than 6yrs now. I will not stop thinking of it until one day it shall come to pass. Is still in my travel adventure budget.
that good and you're welcome here in Rwanda
You are welcome
You should definitely visit! In the meantime, consider learning a few Kinyarwanda words while you prep.
Man I’m Rwandan and you covered everything. I found your content and I love it.

I am Kenyan and Rwanda is the only place outside my country where I can live.I am a fan of order and systems that work.
this man is so knowledgable and has a fantastic vibe
We live in Berlin, Germany...the streets of Rwanda are wayyyyyyyy cleaner than those in the German capital. We should all learn from AWESOME RWANDA!
Heck, cleaner than any streets I have seen in the US too
Rwanda Rwanda, my beautiful Africa. Love from Nigeria.
Thanks man
Am rwandan and this video makes me even more proud . Thank you soo much for this perfect and accurate description 😊
Wow! I had never even considered Rwanda really, but everything in this video makes it seem like a great place for someone like me to visit! Put it on the list! Thanks Mark!
Welcome
You should definitely come visit our beautiful country. You will love it!
Most welcome
@TJM k!
Me too
Don't hesitate to visit Rwanda.
@@steveedwards8490 wow nice to hear this as a Rwandan
*chuckle* The water is not bad. I brush my teeth comfortably with it. Both in Kigali and in Gisenyi.
Just don't drink it. Lol. We usually boil it first if we want to drink tap water
@@raisengoldwig7848 but why is the water so bad for drinking ?
@@dianalove2014 it's ok for locals because we're used to it. But it might be bad for you. I think it's like that everywhere.

@@dianalove2014 here locals some can drinks it, and other drink tap water after boiling it. But, when you're from outside country we're not sure if this tap water would be good for you
I agree with all but the water.... Culligan Made 2 treatment plants in Kigali and 1 in Gisenyi. So you can brush your teeth with tap water with confidence. I have been doing that last 7 years and it is super safe. Thanks for the video....
About drinking tap Water: You can drink tap water-Clean. By the way, millions of Rwandans drink tap water every day.
Was he just in an area with a water problem? That would make much more sense than the entire country.
They boil the water!
...and their GI tract is very used to it. Visitors, not so much.
Most of Rwandans boil water before drinking
I personally don't suggest it. It's better and safer to stick to bottled water or boiling your own water.
I am South African, will be visiting
Kigali soon. You did a great job in this video, very respectful and informative. Thank you!
Loved Rwanda, true, one of the cleanest countries 1st or 3rd world.
True
I wish I could visit Rwanda someday. It's a clean country.. i admire the country, the people, and its leaders. Great nation.
The whole of Africa could learn from Rwanda I think.
thanks for being respectful of my country RWANDA, glad you guys enjoyed ur stay!
I love how clean it is! I wish there was a way we could do this in America :(
Same
Y’all can come live there and it’s absolutely beautiful and the price is cheap lol
Rwanda is called "The country of thousand hills."
In another hand, it may also be called "The country of thousand lies."
Just imagine, the former president of Rwanda Mr.
And what this man doesn't know which was supposed to be added to these don'ts, is that WHEN YOU ARE IN RWANDA, DON'T SAY THAT THE FORMER PRESIDENT PAUL KAGAME PASSED AWAY.
If you do, like many citizens who said it such as Mrs. Idamange Yvone Iryamugwiza, the RUDA OPPOSITION PARTY, Mr. Barafinda Segikubo Fred, and many more,... you will be put in prison.
Just type in RUclips : "Ndahiro David speaking like president Kagame." You will see the name whom I'm talking about who is wearing the mask of President Kagame's image.

I met a Rwandan in Mauritius in 2015. She is so beautifully hearted. I taught a Rwandan son in Nigeria few years back. He was the tallest in our school and very respectful.

Yessss, add Rwanda to the list! And, consider picking up some basic Kinyarwanda. We have some fun intro-level ones that might be interesting.

You have much to be proud of. Its awesome.
hello belise .. i have a word with you...can we talk??
For the past few months I've been watching countless YT videos about Rwanda, but your practical advice is certainly important and helpful.
Another thing to consider is some basic Kinyarwanda words. Could be another fun way to get excited/prepared for making a trip.
Wow
Moved in 2014. Didn't look back! Love Rwanda!
I am floored and so impressed that banned plastic and have a community cleaning day once a month! Wow. We need that too.
I am Rwandan I live in Tokyo but I would like to thank this guy bcz what he is saying is true. Yes tap water u can drink but preferably not drink

I came across your video by accident and have to say that I loved your enthusiasm, friendliness and easy communication of your video. Well done !!
Thank you! Can't wait to be there in February. Thanks for pointing out the tip box at the hotel! What I learnt? Rwanda is right hand drive. Also, no plastic, but lots of plastic water bottles.
Very helpful, especially for the refugees from the UK

We’ll be visiting Rwanda in a month. Thank you for this video, it was so helpful!
Hats off RWANDA.
Rwanda is becoming the model of Africa in each and every sector.
I just know you have an arsenal of stories and wisdom to share.
As a European, the Americans have such a bad reputation for being loud and utterly ignorant of other countries and cultures.
It’s so refreshing to see an American who’s clearly well travelled and sharing his respect and knowledge of the world with his fellow countrymen.
