Agreed. If he really wanted to help those people he'd have bought food they could cook at home or taken them to a restaurant. I did a similar thing many years ago in India with a Sri Lankan refugee buying him snacks instead of a proper meal. Experience helps us to make better decisions but seems this guy has been around... When the country is that “cheap” or in other words poor, you don’t have to negotiate everything with the locals. They need that extra $1 more than you. Stay humble wherever you go, because one day, you could end up in their situation.
Exactly. I am from the US and in a country now where USD goes a long way. I sometimes tip food delivery or taxi drivers 50% (usually $2-3) just to see the look on their faces and so they can get a nice dinner for their family. This guy seems like an asshole negotiating with poor people
I know he wasn’t trying to be but he came off as very insensitive. He’s loudly talking about how “cheap” everything is in front of the locals who don’t perceive it that way. That could be pretty insulting
I mean there is nothing offensive about that really, people from Europe and America generally have different core values in general than us, I dont know if its the right phrase, but people here including myself would not be offended if you call their items cheap, in price not in quality of course, infact its even a lowkey compliment when you imply you expect this to cost more for what it is.....I dont really know why anyone would be offended by it...
My experiences in the so-called Third World have shown me that flashing money around and talking about how "cheap" everything is aren't good ideas. It's kind of insulting to the people there, who are not rich, and you should show respect to the natives always. When in doubt, assume you are wrong and not them.
@Electro_blob 2 If they can make more by taking your money, they will. If they have to kill you for that, they aren't going to lose any sleep over it. Make no mistake, human life comes extremely cheap there.

Hello guys I think you re getting the experience in the video wrong. Yes it is might sound bad that someone comes into your house and shout you re poor as reported by some UN indicators. That is true. However this guy is showing HOW MUCH THOSE INDICATORS ARE WRONG. HE IS SHOWING THAT 10 USD IN BURUNDI EGALS MORE THAN 150 USD IN THE UNITED STATES. WE KNOW 10 USD IS ALMOST NOTHING HERE, THERE IS NO EVEN A BAD RESTAURENT DISH (unless they give you a rebate) WHILE IN BURUNDI YOU CANNOT FINNISH IT. THE PURPOSE OF THIS VIDEO WAS TO PROVE THAT THE GDP INDICATOR THAT BURUNDIANS LIVING AT 1 USD PER DAY THEREFORE ARE ONE OF THE POOREST IN THE WORLD, IS FALSE BECAUSE 1 USD IN BURUNDI IS RELATIVELY ALMOST MORE THAN 50 USD IN NEW YORK. THANKS!
