    I literally cannot understand why you don't have more subscribers and views. Unbelievable detail, grace, eloquence, easy to follow. I love Matt Lowne but he doesn't do tutorials, they're more like sped up commentaries. You make videos that a beginner won't actually give up on this game because of how complicated it is.

    A general rule of thumb for rocketry: the Centre of Drag should be at least one rocket diameter behind the Centre of Mass at launch. Adding fins moves the CoD towards the rear of the rocket. As fuel is consumed CoM moves towards the front of the rocket. You can check this during the build stage. Knowing how a rocket is likely to perform avoids everything getting a bit wibbly-wobbly at launch.
    For atmospheric re-entry the reverse is true - CoD should be in front of CoM so the heat shield is automatically facing the direction of travel. (This is why SpaceX Falcon 9 have grid fins at the front of the boosters for the return journey. I wish we had grid fins in KSP!)
    For clarity: "front" and "forward" refer to the pointy end of the rocket regardless of its direction of travel.

    I like making tiny hyper-efficient probes with as many realism mods as I can get working. Often working on absurd margins. Last thing I sent to the Mun to land barely had enough thrust to slow down to a safe speed at just the last second, and only had a sliver of fuel left when it did. The ascent stage then only just had enough fuel to make it back to the mothership.
    It's incredibly nailbiting at times, but nothing beats building something that does the job it was designed for, no more, no less.

    Tini-tiny little tip should you absolutely need to use the stayputnik. To get halt rotation quickly tap time acceleration and tap it back to normal. This will zero out any tumbling. Great way to get it to a maneuver node and halting it there.

I am beyond excited from this as I love space and have always wanted to play a game like this and be successful at it. As soon as I completed the mission and had my probe on the Mun I came to comment on your video. Amazing tutorial and you do a very amazing job explaining every aspect. You’re genuinely my favorite KSP RUclipsr because you have the most useful and helpful videos for learning the different aspects of the game. Excellent series, I already recommended it to a friend of mine who just started with KSP a couple of days ago, thank you!
    I'd like to add a little note here, regarding those two Communotron antennas, the 16-S is, as you said, way more robust, but it is, in contrast to the 16, not combinable, using more than one 16-s does not increase the antenna strength at all.
    Also, in a previous episode, you said that the placement of a reaction wheel matters, but in KSP (in contrast to real life), it actually doesn't.
    Again, thank you this great series, much appreciated. :)

    • @MikeAben
      @MikeAben  2 года назад +1

      1) You're 100% right on the 16-S.
      2) Really! I didn't know that. The KSP wiki says otherwise, but I just found a video in 1.3 that confirms what you say. I think I may have to do my own experiments, but you could be right.
      Thanks

    • @MikeAben
