    My turtle mostly eats pellets, mealworms, and crickets. I've tried giving him other things - lettuce, grapes, carrots. He's scared of them, and either retreats to his shell or swims away as fast as he can. The most I've been able to do is get him to smell a grape and lettuce, which he promptly denied. He's going on 16 years old.

    Hey did a experiment on feeding my new DBT. Was feeding my reef tank and had some Silversides left over and a light bulb went off duhhh feed some to the two girls. So they ate 6 each three gulps each 4 inch long silversides. Will monitor intake but only have had them a couple weeks so get them plumped up for next springs breeding just need to find a male. Doing the Shrimp thing and will check with a friend might be able to get a hold of some small crabs for good price. LOVE it. Been getting other fish food through a good source for years via Ebay Blackworm company in CA. They have a aswome turtle blend they take all kinds of food brands and custom blend them. Check out their PACU blend its off the Hook!

    Hi guys 🙌🙌
    I recently bought a red eared slider and I read that we are supposed to feed baby sliders food everyday but also to be careful not to overfeed (protein/calories) them as that can lead to pyramiding of the shell or turtle obesity.
    I am currently feeding him pellets (OF TT-G1 pro and Saki-Hikari turtle food about size of his head as advised from the web/RUclips) every other day and unlimited vegetables (as advised by some RUclipsr) - rotating between mustard greens, green leaves lettuce, and endives, and carrot and cuttlefish bone (once a week supplementary for vit A and calcium)- on non-pellet days.
    I know that baby sliders need protein as they are still growing rapidly and I'm wondering if feeding vegetables would suffice it's dietary needs.
    My slider's stool is watery from the vegetables consumption and I think it's from the overconsumption of leafy vegetables.
    Example of a week's feeding schedule
    Mon - Brand A Pellets and vegetables
    Tue - Vegetables
    Wed - Brand B Pellets and vegetables
    Thu - Vegetables and cuttlefish bone
    Fri - Brand A Pellets and vegetables
    Sat - Vegetables and carrot
    Sun - Brand B Pellets and vegetables
    Do advised as I'm not sure if this is the right way to go about feeding a baby slider. 🙇🙇

    Nice! Just got 2 female Northern Diamondback Terrapins 6 inch. Have them in 10000 gal Koi pond 7.5 ft deep with 4 red ear and soon Soft shell. Never had Terrapins before. As an Aquarist thought something up. Have a 400 gal cistern not being used will plum it to a 55 gal barrel bio mechanical fit filter. Had a spare 4,000 hog pressure filter hooked up. Setting up next to koi pond and at the moment just filled cured with full sea water. Need to figure out a ramp to go between. 6 foot cedar planks 6 inch wide with 6 - 12 inch sides cedar and chickenwire or hardware cloth cover (Raccoons possum hawks). Would like to feed Terrapins their shrimps crab etc in cistern get them conditioned to come up. Have option to close off ramp keep them in salt for a period of time with some type basking. SUGGESTIONS! Oh need to find a male. Beautiful T's!!!

    • @DanTheTurtleMan_
      @DanTheTurtleMan_  6 лет назад +2

      Ochibason Thanks so much! Your setup sounds simply fantastic. Where'd you get the females from? Also a little warning, don't use full saltwater. Diamondback terrapins aren't used to full salt and are naturally from brackish water, which is a mix of fresh and saltwater. Giving them access to freshwater at least once a week is a must if keeping in brackish water but I know several people who have a ramp between a fresh and brackish body of water. If your females are over 4 or 5 years old definitely get a male 2-3yrs old! And give em a place to lay and you should get some hatchlings :) Thanks for watching!

    • @DanTheTurtleMan_
      @DanTheTurtleMan_  6 лет назад +1

      Ochibason Brackish is good and they will shed with time especially if they're getting natural sunlight. The blue with striped is a northern "concentric" (which just means it has stripes rather than dots) and the other is just a northern. DM me on instagram if you wanna chat more!

    Love your videos they are so informative. I recently got an Africa side neck turtle (from a pet store I know everyone says pet stores are bad..) anyway I’ve had him about two weeks and he still hasn’t eaten. The store associate let us know he was eating live food supposedly. So far I’ve offered him pellets, another type of turtle food that is easily chewable, and I got two small minnows. He’s not interested but seems to be very healthy and happy. I’ve read that they have very slow metabolisms and it is winter so should I be worried at all?

    What should I give my turtle as treats if I don’t want to give him mealworms, crickets, worms, etc? I’m really terrified of bugs and I don’t want to give him live feed either because it makes me really sad to watch an organism die. Maybe I’m just really sensitive-when I was 9 I cried when my dad fed my turtle a live worm. My turtle didn’t want it, and I was too afraid to take it out, so I just watched it die and decompose for weeks until I got my dad to take it out for me. Scarred for life, I never want to watch something die and decompose even if it’s a worm. I do feed him dried shrimp though because shrimp don’t really scare me. Are there other things I can feed him as treats?

They’re in a 75 gal tank with approx 20 gals of water for now. I have been using the zoo med slow release calcium block and it seems to be working but they dissolve in a week or 2. Do I need to replace them whenever it’s fully dissolved? Or can it wait awhile?
    I would really like to not have to worry about the block and have them get the calcium from their food but I cannot seem to find information on exactly how much calcium they need or exactly how much food to feed them that contains calcium. I appreciate any help and advice! Thanks!

    What is the minimum size tank for red eared slider?

    • @DanTheTurtleMan_
      @DanTheTurtleMan_  5 лет назад

      An adult female red ear slider I'd say needs at LEAST 75-100 gallons of swimming room.

    Can the Mazuri diet be fed to diamondback terrapin hatchlings too? Also do you have a list of the foods that are safe to feed diamondback terrapins? I’ve looked online and a lot of resources haven’t been very specific about what to feed them.

    • @DanTheTurtleMan_
      @DanTheTurtleMan_  3 года назад

      A friend of mine uses exclusively crushed mazuri for his hatchlings! Yes it rocks. I don't have a list but anything high protein should work well

      A for Ashish What do you feed him? Be careful not to overfeed, turtles can become overweight and it leads to a ton of complications. Thanks for watching!
