I’m genuinely so grateful for this video. This was just what I was looking for; small, vital, quality of life tools and habits for miniature scale projects. I actually breathed a sigh of relief. Thank you for saving my nerves!
These clear, to-the-point and understandable guides and tutorials are SO appreciated because of my ADHD!! The idea of needing to watch longer videos to piece together the basics of sewing doll clothes (as i'm not a sewing beginner, but I haven't sewn anything on this tiny of a scale!) has been putting me off!! I'm glad I found your channel :D
Awesome tips! I’d have never thought of some of this stuff! As a person who sews as a hobby I feel almost like an imposter for not knowing about a narrow presser foot! I need one now!
Honk!!!!!!! My husband 3D printed it for me! I think he found the model on Thingiverse and then scaled it up to fit a Harbor Freight magnet he had laying around! Goose usually holds scissors but sometimes tweezers or needles. Basically anything he can be violent with >:) LOL
@@MaileLani I actually have a weird connection with geese so I too would buy one of these in a heart beat. Sad to find out that it's not something I can buy online
Yes she is gorgeous. I have a Bengal kitty too but she (KussKuss) is charcoal coloured. Thanks for these tips its only common sense but yeah, I just ordered beading needles and fray check lol! (says a lot for my lack of common sense!).
Wonderful tips! I didn’t that there was a smaller sewing foot available! I’ve been sewing the tinier details by hand. I find sleeves are the hardest to sew on the machine.
Sleeves took me a while to get used to with a sewing machine, but I've practiced a lot and now I don't even think about it hehe. I personally find it easier to just ease the sleeve in and not use pins/clips when I sew it on with the machine. It takes a little practice, but it's pretty easy once you get used to it! Thank you so much for watching!!
That's awesome! Let me know how you like them! I haven't looked back to pins since I discovered them LOL. Probably for the best as my feet still find sewing pins in the carpet lol
Beading needles! I have some from past beading projects too so will be using them from now on. Thank you! :) Before covid I used to sew mostly dance wear and despite all the enthusiasm of others I wasn't a fan of quilt clips for stretch fabrics but then I started sewing face masks and dolls clothes! The extra narrow ones you showed are brilliant! I still use my extra fine pins for dolls clothes but standard pins are just as you say. Yes to tweezers too! I like craft/sewing tweezers best as they are longer and comparatively slimmer so they're really good for just guiding tiny pieces under the foot like a stiletto too. My favourites are the opposable ones that close when you released the pressure.
I can't even thank you enough for your seemingly simple knowledge share because it genuinely unlocks a door I've been butting my head against for years. Off to buy a narrow sewing foot and beading needles! 😊
Omg!! Your comment has literally made my entire day, like it made me tear up! I'm so so so glad that it's helped you!!!! I totally get it though bc when I started the first time after I got my first doll, I quit bc I was so flustered and couldn't find any tutorials or anything really. I started up again in October 2018 and figured I'd just hack my way through it and see what I could learn and try not to let the failures get to me. I still have piles of things that I decide half way through don't look right, but now I just put it in the box and move on instead of getting frustrated and discouraged. Like a couple weeks ago I spent a couple hours ruffling this ribbon to attach to this skirt and then I realized it didn't look that great and just moved lol. But even if it can be frustrating at times, don't be discouraged! A lot of failures happen before the stuff that gets posted online haha
Tiny sewing!! I'm definitely going to keep those tiny needles in mind! I'm learning to make plushies and apparently doing things normal is boring so I'm attempting to make my pattern as tiny as possible, ok not as possible but atleast keychain sized and it can be kinda tricky! Luckily I really enjoy sewing by hand so it's not too hard! I've started using basting tap and sometimes adhesive spray in place of pinning. I really love the clips, I got them off a friends recommendation and I love them EXCEPT I try not to use them because it makes my project way down a lot. But I'm working with minky so the spray and basting tape just doesn't cut it most of the time. I tend to like to use pins to line up my pieces (only puncturing them straight through so I can make sure certain parts of the patterns meet up so I know it'll match) actually sometimes I just use my hand sewing needle because it's convenient but I will keep it in mind if I use more delicate fabrics, luckily I use minky and nothing really shows. There really isn't a lot when it comes to this stuff. Not much tutorials for more complicated patterns or interesting content in general on my topic. I have a lot of crafting time to spend with nothing to watch!!
Oooh, thank you, I watched this, and glumly said, 'yep, got all that, but the machine chews my tiny bits'. My machine is about eighteen years old, now, but maybe I can get one of these straight plates you speak of, because at this stage, I hand sew all my doll clothes!
Yes!!! Those clips are perfect, I also use pins still. I also use a small craft iron, and I got a doll clothing ironing board. It’s invaluable! I hand sew all of my doll clothing. And I use a fishing hook sharpener for my hand needles. And I use a thimble for my middle finger. And sometimes I get the top of my thumb with the sewing needle, so I have a larger like ‘sock’ thimble for that thumb. To protect it.
I too think a quilters iron is invaluable. Ironing a tiny sleeve with a regular sized iron is impossible!! May I ask what exactly the fish hook sharpener is for? Is that for keeping your needles sharp? I hand sew all my doll clothes too; keeping them sharp would be amazing!
I would recommend you try Fray Block instead of Fray Check. Both do the job and both dry clearly but Fray Block dries softer. Very helpful on ribbons and bows too.
I mainly just sew for Blythe because that’s what I mainly collect personally, but I did get my first 1/4 bjd and I’m dying to make something new for her!!
That is such a kind thing to say, I'm so so glad that you found the information helpful!! Good luck with your dolly sewing and thank you so much for watching
I adore sewing clips, they make life easy. And it is so, so, SO important to swatch test fray check/fray stop because some fabrics are super absorbent- I stupidly once just went straight to fray checking a delicate piece I'd embroidered without checking it with the few scraps I had left, and the fray check just swept through the fabric like if you dipped the corner of a tissue in water- and it stained and turned the fabric hard. Could not get it to wash out. No more fabric left to replace it, all the local stores sold out of that very unique colour of wedding dress grade satin that cost me an arm and a leg. Entire expensive project with hours of work ruined because I rushed it. Swatch test your fray stop!! I also only apply it with a little brush with the fabric sitting on paper towel, now, so I only apply the barest amount at a time to avoid further catastrophe.
Oh! I forgot! Hemostat, I use a small nosed hemostat (fishing lure making size). You can get them at Walmart in the fishing lure area. And I turn dress bodices out, and socks when I see them. It locks and grips very well. I’ve used it for elastic as well! Since I have ball jointed dolls I use the larger nosed ones for restringing. And for the SD sized (1/3) dolls! ❤️❤️❤️❤️🧵🧵🧵🧵
I like the quilting clips. I bought some a while ago that are like that but not narrowed where they clamp onto the piece. I may have to order of those. Thanks for the tips!
I use quilt clips...but could you show us how you sew with them? They seem too bulky to sew around. I don’t understand how you can use them with a gathered skirt to bodice as shown in video. Thanks
Yesterday I got the sewing machine out for the first time this year! It was my first time attempting to make small scale clothes. I found your video today, and using these tips, it was so much more successful! ❤️ I was thinking I'd have to buy a special narrow foot, but I just switched to the zipper foot and it's worked perfectly! I have a question: when making doll clothes, do you have to respect the grain lines as you would with normal dressmaking? Or does it not make much difference to the hang of the fabric at that scale?
That’s so awesome I’m so glad that it helped you!!!! I’ve heard some people tell me they were going to try a zipper foot so I’m glad to know that it works!! As far as the fabric, I do follow the grain of the fabric! I will say that I’ve found with doll clothes fabric weight is the most important thing. If the fabric is too heavy and the thread count is too low, it doesn’t feel as realistic!
Thank you 😍 I sew lingerie and i want to sew some miniature lingerie, this is how i found you. I already use this tools for my sewing projects, only the narrow foot i dont have yet. I will get it soon. Good luck!
Very helpful, and I’m happy to say that I have all of those things except the tiny clips. 😁 I’m surprised that I didn’t think of using of those things while trying to sew Barbie clothes.
Yessss! The tiny clips are the best! Also great for someone like me who is accident prone and always loses pins in her carpet LOL Thank you so much for watching
Fray check saves my life. Lately, I start to make doll clothes. I always wonder it must have something to overlook frabic because doll clothes are smaller than adults. I bought overcasting foot because I only have a sewing machine with the zig-zag stitch. It took me 30 minutes just to overlock fabric. I am so frustrated until I find out fray check cheaper and faster than buy serger or overcasting foot. Thank you so much
Thank you for this video! Where do you get miniature notions and fabrics for such small pieces? I have tried and tried to find them online, but all I get is "look at Etsy" and I would love some other places and ideas as well.
Thank you for these tips! It was really helpful ❤️ but I've been looking for a narrow foot so long, that I was going to give up. Could you share the information where to get this foot?
Omgg thank you so much i just recently start sewing clothing for my bjd doll and the it's so hard compared to the normal size clothing especially when using the needles that gonna leave a hole to my fabric..also i cannot find a mini zipper to use it on my doll clothing.
Sorry for the late reply!! And yes the best way to learn to sew is to just start! When I first learned how to use a machine I just made a square pillow pin cushion haha. The thing about sewing is the more you practice the better you get and easier it becomes! Brothers are also great machines, my first machine was a brother 💛💛
quick question! (beginner) if I just get a narrow foot off of amazon can I just put in a random machine? or do I have to get a specific one for my machine?
It depends on the sewing machine! Most sewing feet attachments are kinda universal, but it's hard to say without knowing the machine. I know for my machine I can't use the universal sewing machine feet without an attachment, so it's just easier to buy the official feet. I hope that helps!
Hello, it's my school vacation and I want to make doll dresses but I don't know how will I do it or what to at first...I don't have a sewing machine. I just have some clothes, needles, a doll, and threads...what should I do... need some instructions but where to get.. 🥺🥺🥺🥺and yeah I just subscribed to your channel 🙃
I’m not totally sure what it would be called exactly but maybe something between Lolita and Victorian styles? I’ve seen a lot of Lolita dresses with the same vibe! I hope that helps!
I get them from AliExpress! I've seen them sold in the US on Etsy at a pretty big markup, but the sellers just buy the buttons from China and then resell them. I buy the 3mm ones and they're like $1.50 for 50 of them. As far as snaps, I've bought some in China but tbh they're not that much cheaper than the tiny ones you can buy at JoAnn or any sewing shop! The ones I get in the states come 12 to pack and I think they're like 4mm? I hope that helps!
I think I just use 80/2.0 ones! Whatever the most basic ones are. If you send me a DM on insta with your machine maybe I can help! Try putting a piece of tissue paper in between the fabric and the bed of the machine, that can help with the problem you're describing!
Thank you so so much! And maybe one day! I've been so busy with other work that I haven't had much time for dolly sewing haha. I'll get back to it eventually
@@MaileLani Something as simple as a piece of tissue paper is going to make my sewing so much easier. Many a shredded seam that ends up being ruined will now be prevented. Thank you for all your little goodies.
Hi! I was wondering where you get your buttons, fasteners, zippers for dolls? I find them quite difficult to obtain and some a bit pricey (ex. Mini separating zippers). Also, could you do a sew with me on clothes closures? Thank you. 😊
I don't really use zippers, but I do get my buttons from Ali express! The wait is forever but its SO much cheaper than buying them on Etsy. I've bought my snaps from Ali Express too and it's a little cheaper to do that than buying them at the craft store! I really only use snaps for my doll stuff, but I do have some footage of me hand sewing the snaps in my most recent vlog! I've tried velcro before too, but I don't really like it personally. As long as it takes me to hand sew snaps I really do like the way it looks in the end haha. I hope that helps!
Maile Lani Thank you! I have not realized until recently how absolutely frustrating sewing teeny tiny clothes could be. I am currently using velcro bur I will look into using snaps as well. Just discovered your channel. Looking forward to more videos. And love the goose! ☺️
Yay I’m So glad! and I get them all from Ali express! Shipping takes a little bit but it’s so much cheaper it’s worth it. I usually buy a bunch! I think I use the 3mm ones for my dresses. I hope that helps!
Uhm.... Im still a beginner at sewing and have little to no experience, but i would like to ask about what sewing machine is a beginner friendly? I mean we do have sewing machine at my home but my grandma said that they are all sensitive machines that one mistake at putting a thread makes the sewing machine malfunction, that's why i am a little bit hesitant at doing things to it (。ŏ﹏ŏ), I'm sorry if this is a far fetch question....also sorry if it's wrong grammar
I have some things shown in the video like mini clips (of wood) or needles, sadly i can't buy the other things. Here in Argentina, Amazon wants to makes you pay like 7.000 Argentine pesos for like a goddamn piece of paper Please i don't want to live here anymore
I’m genuinely so grateful for this video. This was just what I was looking for; small, vital, quality of life tools and habits for miniature scale projects. I actually breathed a sigh of relief. Thank you for saving my nerves!

@@MaileLani It helps very much, thank you! I haven't explored AliExpress much but I will now.
I liked the video very much, I am a new follower, and I hope with all my heart that I will be able to sew with your same skills
That’s so nice of you to say!!! Thank you so much for watching!
What size machine needles do you use? I get my projects sucked up into my machine and it makes me frustrated
I think I just use 80/2.0 ones! Whatever the most basic ones are. If you send me a DM on insta with your machine maybe I can help! Try putting a piece of tissue paper in between the fabric and the bed of the machine, that can help with the problem you're describing!
Where can i get those small buttons?
I got mine from Ali Express! I think they're the 3mm ones
Omg that dress is so cute will there be a tutorial?
Thank you so so much! And maybe one day! I've been so busy with other work that I haven't had much time for dolly sewing haha. I'll get back to it eventually
Thanks for the tips. When I try to sew this small the fabric usually gets pushed into the machine by the needle, do you know how I can prevent that?
Put a piece of tissue paper between the fabric and the bed of the machine! It's super inexpensive and then easy to tear away after you're finished
@@MaileLani Something as simple as a piece of tissue paper is going to make my sewing so much easier. Many a shredded seam that ends up being ruined will now be prevented. Thank you for all your little goodies.
I've been doing hand beading since I was thirteen, almost 23 years. I've been threading beading needles by eye 🤣
Very useful thank you!
I'm so glad!!! Thank you so much for watching!!!!
Oh thank u I never thought of quilt clips great idea love ur kitty what's her name
Her name is peaches! She’s a sweet kitty heheh
Thanks
wwhat about the seewing foot
where do u get those tini buttons btw thank u this vid realy helped :)
Yay I’m So glad! and I get them all from Ali express! Shipping takes a little bit but it’s so much cheaper it’s worth it. I usually buy a bunch! I think I use the 3mm ones for my dresses. I hope that helps!
Omg. Thank you for the tips, but I just can't get over those cute tiny buttons. Can I ask where you get them?
I got them from Ali Express! I want to say they're 3mm size. They please me hehe. Thank you so much for watching!!

Uhm.... Im still a beginner at sewing and have little to no experience, but i would like to ask about what sewing machine is a beginner friendly? I mean we do have sewing machine at my home but my grandma said that they are all sensitive machines that one mistake at putting a thread makes the sewing machine malfunction, that's why i am a little bit hesitant at doing things to it
(。ŏ﹏ŏ), I'm sorry if this is a far fetch question....also sorry if it's wrong grammar
I use a clear sewing foot myself
I like this
Thank you!!! And thank you for watching 💛💛
Lovely cat

Hey Cat 🤎👈🏿
HI
I only use my hands to sew doll clothes
I have some things shown in the video like mini clips (of wood) or needles, sadly i can't buy the other things. Here in Argentina, Amazon wants to makes you pay like 7.000 Argentine pesos for like a goddamn piece of paper
Please i don't want to live here anymore
