Finally finished 64 after all these years and this theme just hit so hard, its mysterious and fluid. Loved it, felt like the perfect build up.
When you heard this theme, shit got real. You'd wipe the sweat from your hands and lean forwards.

Even though M64 was one of the first games I played, I almost never heard this stage music. So after playing galaxy, I ended up noticing the music refrences backwards, lol.

This composition by Koji Kondo was amazing. You truly felt like you were on this impossible road of fear and challenge to fight a great evil. I mean back then video composition music was great because there was alot to prove and alot at stake. Not to mention with next gen hardware making alot more things possible it was time to test its limits with sound engineering and producing. I bet people had lots of fun creating music and games around this era.

This track kinda scared me as a kid. I suppose its the vibe, it has a sort of dire, forboding, intemidadting, and trecherous, feel to it. But still love the track.

The interesting thing about this song is that one could not imagine it being part of a common Mario Bros game. because it is so different and could easily be used for another game of a similar theme and perfectly fit. the best soundtrack of nintendo 64.
