Hey Scotty I have a 1988 f250 with the 5.8L in it and at stops it will idle up and down but once I get moving it’s fine. What could that be ?
@@CristianHernandez-jr3vn Sounds like a dirty throttle body!
Hey Scotty. Are OBD sockets stardardized all over the world? Or do they differ according markets and car model year. I'm planning to buy a scan tool for my pick up truck MY 2011 and an suv MY 2016. All mitsubishi makes. Thanks.
By the way I'm from the Philippines sir. 😊
Tell us about 2007/8 vvt problems
LOL Scotty ! Shades of 1975 ! Hoodie under the Wrangler and when it got really cold you break out the Mil Surplus M65 😀
I had a faulty PCV valve, it functioned just okay but it did allow some backflow and was quite dirty. I also had a potentially faulty MAF sensor, and a p0171 code. Between replacing those two and the spark plugs, my 100,000 mile 2.4l 2AZ-FE runs like the day it came out of the factory.
The whole neighborhood decided to put Halloween decorations outside their house. I put a Chrysler out in the front yard with a bowl of candies next to it. No one dares to get close to it they all run away.
I put a bowl of candy on my Mustang, now I see a dead crowd around it.
They're afraid to go down into endless money pit for the rest of their lives.
My RAM isn’t that scary please no dude cmon
I put a BMW with GODIVA Chocolates next to it.. And the kids ran away yelling" Endless Money Pitt"! 😂😂😂😂😂
These comments are hilarious 😂
Well done Scotty you're always on top of things that should be appreciated. Even old dogs like myself learn a thing or two from you. I've been working on cars since I was 14 , that was 63 years ago. But I'm more into the older cars the newer ones with all the electronic stuff in it, are not my cup of tea. That's why it's a treat watch someone who is kept up-to-date. You sure know your stuff. So say I, Moses of Englewood Chicago. By the way happy Halloween. Also missed your birthday a little while back sorry about that. Happy birthday!!!
If you watch all of Scotty's videos, you should be able to get a degree in auto mechanics! This guy knows so much about vehicles and that's a lot of knowledge! Smart man!
I wish!
Instead of giving out candy for Halloween he gives out Toyota Celicas
Fruitably that’d be amazing I’d take one
Nah, he gives Chevron Techron😂
Or old parts laying around 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I’d be happy if it was also a GT4
He gives CVT transmissions to the bad boys and girls.
Im going dress up as Scotty for Halloween
You'll be the terror of New Car Dealers! Muahahaha
PLEASE PICS BRO
Charles Magic haha I was going to do that
You must have a '94 Toyota Celica.
And talk with your hands, really really fast
Scotty is a living legend
💪😎🚗💪
Robert Samsak definitely
Tiss be, but were that ASE proof at?
Scotty I love these videos the most, where you start from scratch on a puzzle and work us through the solution, step by fascinating step. THANK YOU!
you can also improve your idle and engine motility by putting a defibrillator inside the catalytic converter.
I went to three different mechanics to try to fix my car ,all three ripped me off, found scottys channel on how to do a OB1 test got the codes and solved the problem, thanks scotty,I just wish I'd found you sooner.
God bless Scotty Kilmer 👏
Love these videos. Replaced all plugs, cap and rotor, coil, and wires in my truck and magically the misfiring and running on half an engine went away. No more smelling fuel when starting cold and taking 10 miles to warm up enough to start firing the other cylinders with a weak spark. Looks like this old truck will make it to 300k
I always check for codes first. If I'm out without a scan tool I'll pop the hood and look for hoses or connectors swinging in the breeze. I wish more cars would display codes. They give you a 7" color display that can pull audio and video from orbiting satellites but it can't show you the data in the box sitting next to it.
John Smithy Some day cars will diagnose themselves and tell you in all different languages ( Depending on what country) the owner lives, exactly what's wrong with it!
@Johnny Draco Oh look, a flat earther and a believer in anything that says the world isn't what it actually is :)
@Johnny Draco yep, they conned me so thoroughly that I actually believe I'm watching HBO when I turn on my satellite reciever.
Hugh Brackett If legislators wanted to actually help the people who elected them instead of the companies who bankroll their campaigns, on-board diagnostic data thru the stupid dashboard screen would have become mandatory equipment around the same time tire pressure monitoring was mandated. Been saying it for YEARS.
Johnny Draco absolutely no idea how Shakespeare is relevant to the conversation; but are you aware that at dawn and dusk you can actually SEE satellites with the naked eye from earth’s surface, as the sunlight reflects off of them? Or have you not been out of your mom’s basement at those times of day lately?
Trick or treating scotty style
Epiccomedy haha it’s a good way to do it
Cheap Trick, the rock band from Rockford, Illinois?
Scotty the airborne qualified badass veteran and mechanic
Scotty you have saved me a lot of money in car repairs with your videos. To that I say thank you.
Thank GOD for mechanic like you,an yes I'am a family of Toyotas my family have 4 thanks again for your knowledge
Love those older RAV4's. That one is the same year and color of one I had until the bottom rusted out on it. Loved that old RAV4 4wd/5sp. Took me through a lot of mud and snow back in the day. Even had the LSD in the rear along with the outdoor package (whatever that meant) good vehicle. Older RAV's (1994-2005) were the best.
That Toyota RAV4 is over 22 years old and still looks in good cosmetic condition. The engine and all the mechanical components also look in good shape too. Just a sensor replacement and some fuel injector cleaner and it looks ready to go for another decade. Toyota vehicles were tanks in the late 20th century but are now toys in the 21st century. How some mighty have fallen or tripped.
I like the Lucas fuel injector cleaner because it's oil based and it lubricates the injectors and the fuel pump
Been using seafoam for years and recommending it, it has actually turned a lot of check engine lights off. PEA does not always mean anything, a lot goes into cleaning the fuel system like lubrication as well as gunk removal! :)
Do you just pour it into the gas tank, or do you use the spray, I've been pouring cans of it into my 4Runner, in hopes it's doing something good.
I love these diagnosis and repair videos Scotty! Keep em coming!
Love your latest where you show a diagnostic & repair!
The good old days of a carb. This issue was nearly always the choke. The 442 had a worn out mechanical choke pull down spring. Super easy fix.
Wow ...señor Scotty Kilmer... no wonder haters hate you...you are a great mechanic!! ...keep it up!! Thank you for sharing your knowledge One day when I have the chance to be wondering around in Galveston tx...I will stop by your garage and shake hands with you sir...then we go for a good lunch to I think is called “El Gusto”Mexican Restaurant on broadway av. Thank you that was a great video!!!
Another great video,on the spot. Many sensors truly only last twenty years or less. My 2002 has needed scanning and sensor replacement, so has my 2007. O2 and temp thermistor sensors should be checked for accuracy every year. They're cheap, easy to install.
Wow that's awesome Scotty, lol my first thought was a catalytic converter. Man was I off . Thanks for all the help.
I was thinking MAF at first
@@shaanpatel8244 MAF is MAP. You either have one or the other in your car. Every car has some type of sensor to monitor air to fuel ratio
@@omartinoco9930 Some cars do have both MAF and MAP sensors.
You are the BEST. Mister, the ONLY HONEST MECHANIC I HAVE EVER MET
Scottys videos are the best... He has such a relaxed and cool demeanor... HE`S THE BEST!!!!
SCOTTY FOR RESIDENT , HE S GOT MY VOTE. THANK YOU. A RUNNING CAR IN EVERY GARAGE .
Haha you could've started out with advance code reader at the beginning but I appreciate you taking the time and diagnosing some problems manually. Thanks for posting!
Binge watching Scotty’s videos instead of going trick or treating :)
Those old rav4 's never die.
Wonderful, but using logic it would have made more sense to start with the things on the car that measure temperature, since the problem was a temperature sensitive problem. Start with the code reader. Even with pre-computer control and carburetors if there is a cold start problem, check to see which engine items are affected by temperature. The good old thermostatic choke and the heat riser control valve were often the problem. Outside of California many folks just scrapped that automatic stuff and installed a manual controlled choke and cable....very popular JC Whitney item.
Keep warm Scotty. Denim keeps you in style with Jay. 🙂
gòod job wee man i knew you would get it every 3 months i put injector cleaner in my tank allways have done never had a problem with dirty injectors .we have one here in scotland called redex thats very good keep up the great work scotty.👍
Scotty's "diagnosis and fix' videos are the best.
Someone needs to create a database of Scotties videos. I've seen an elevator mechanic retire and for whatever reason was forced to take down his youtube account. Some valuable stuff here.
I can not thank you enough, Scotty, your passion is contagious and you are making me to return to my roots and practice the Mechanic Profession again, what are the most important tools I need in order to start my own business, can you please advise?
Thanks again and God bless you with many years of Service.
Logic minded problem solving is sadly lacking now days.
Doctor Evil unfortunately it is
Unfortunately, it is by design. Public schooling teaches as little problem solving and thinking for yourself as possible. In fact, thinking for yourself is heavily discouraged. Standing out, independent thought, trying your best, figuring different ways of solving a problem, and using logic are extremely discouraged and even punished.
Indrid Cold Because most of the teachers are Demonrats! In other words... Communists
Ha..
Including get this video. Air filter causing issues at clod idle? Not likely!
Trick or treat? Why yes!!! I’ll take a couple Toyota Celicas 😝 😂
Thanks, will keep an eye out for PEA fuel additives. - take care
Hello! I had a similar trouble with an Audi A4 1.8Turbo petrol. The temperature sensor for the cooling liquid was reading wrong the outside temperature. ECU responded with a rich condition when outside were 18-35 Celsius degrees. When the outside temperatures got to 15 Celsius degrees it started to work good again. I replaced the sensor. It costed 6 bucks. :) The mechanics were in a dillema about diagnosing the trouble. I changed first the coils, and the transmission with the water pump, the intercooler radiator, the petrol filter, the air and oil filter. ... They had troubles to diagnose the cooling liquid temperature sensor. Thank's for the tips, sir!
I am retired and drive less than 5K miles a year. And little of that is stop and go; I avoid rush hour. So long term reliability is not so important--by the time my car hits 100K miles, I'll probably be in the ground. I've always bought practical cars and babied them. I want a car that's more fun to drive. I'm considering a turbo Mazda CX-5, or maybe a low mileage Lexus RX350. I ski, so AWD and room for equipment in the back would be nice. What do you think?
Scotty you are a genius!!!
Thanks Scotty for all your useful tips!.
In only 5 minutes for us we save a lot of headaches.
Scotty, you are one impressive human being.
Scotty is a car genius
I was wondering when my evening Scotty video was coming up
Hey thanks man this video helped me solve the problem i have in my car, i did not know what it was until i watched this video
Your approach to isolating the problem reminds me of an aviation check list.
That was a repair which didn't take long to diagnose and repair. I have a 2007 Ford Escape which I have to put the new battery into which I purchased and see if that solves the problem with the vehicle not starting.
A lot of times when a car runs erratically it's the nut behind the wheel. ^^
I had the worse nightmare last night, it was a dream where Scotty passed away. I was so devistated. Then I woke up and realized it was a dream. Thank you Scotty for being alive!
Yeah but oneday we'll all hang out at the heavenly Scotty Garages.
Scotty, congrats on your 1 billion viewers!
Perfectly timed video! Weather getting cold. Common problems in the cold!
This is surely a Treat scotty. Thanks
Hey Scotty, How about a video on diagnosing spark knock. I have an 04 Town Car. No vacuum leaks, changed spark plugs (old ones looks fine), new PCV, 91 octane gas (helped some), no gross carbon build up and no codes. Still happening 3rd and 4th gear at low RPMS while accelerating.
"Yup... my car was running rough so took it to Scotty and he PEA'd in the tank!"
Best Generation of Rav4 Ever.
Those 90s Toyota’s are solid.
Trick: using common sense, diagnose, and use a scan tool.
Treat: fixing the issues yourselves, saving money, and patting yourself on the back after fixing the issue.
I'd love to pat myself on the back but, I fear dislocating my shoulder by over doing it.
@@rverro8478 I patted myself on the back after I fixed the heater and electrical issues on my mom's 2007 Chevy Uplander last weekend. I really need to replace the t-stat housing assembly on my car as the temperature rises on idle with the heater on at a red light for 3-5 minutes.
Trick: Breaking a bolt that makes a 30 minute job a 4 hour job
Treat: Not doing that.
Aren't you the keyboard Scotty today 🤪🤪🤪
Spartacus Smith been there......
My first reaction to when he said runs poorly when cold but fine once warmed up was to check the temp sensor. Had a similar problem with a 1990 Chevy truck. Changed the temp sensor and it ran better than new. Must have had a weak temp sensor since new. Still regret selling it back in 2006.
My nissan micra 2002 has this problem. I know the spark plugs are being okay, same for the air filter. So I am gonna check the other 2 things
I think a clogged injector would lead to a positive fuel trim. However, if the ECU thinks that the ambient temperature is warmer than it truly is (as is the case with a faulty temperature sensor in cold weather), the predicted density of air is lower than the actual air density and the ECU injects less fuel.
I actually had the same issue in my grand marquis, turned out to be a bad fuel pressure regulator
I have this problem on my 97 Tacoma. I have narrowed down my suspicions to the regulator as well. Haven't changed it yet, but it's in a box in my living room.
Thanks brother. God bless you.
Thank you Scotty I’ve been trying to ask you this for ever. I’ll try the maf on my 2000 blazer also the air temp sensor.
Scotty you are the KING 👑
I dont have toyota that old, cause mine have a bunch of sensors, but i love you scoty
Scotty today is my birthday!
Also coolant temp sensors signal the car to go into closed loop mode when the engine warms up. A bad one can make the computer think the engine is cold when it is really hot and the engine runs rich or it can make a cold engine appear warm and run the car lean on start up.
Happy Birthday!
Exactly what happened to my 1990 Chevy truck V6 5spd. Ran great cold but would die once warmed up. Black smoke poured out the exhaust. No ODBII back then so it took a while to track it down to the coolant temp sensor.
Absolutely Magnificent INSIGHT
Just resetting the computer on my 99 Durango completely fixed this problem.
I was wondering what fuel injector cleaner with PEA you reccomend.
If Scotty had his hands tied behind him he wouldn't be able to talk.
True😄
Hilarious!👍
I thought that the first time I watched one if his videos 🤣😂
Lool i agree
A real scary story is if Scotty wakes up and the celica is gone and instead there is a Mercedes parked there
Definitely a nightmare for old Scotty lol
He’d have a heart attack! Lol
That would be a parallel universe, where Scotty drives a Mercedes and his wife drives a Chrysler 300, and Toyotas and Hondas are endless money pits...
Joe Costantino an episode of " The Twilight Zone"!
Sounds like a horror movie produced by Scotty! “Attack Of The Endless Money Pits” maybe? 😂😂😂
Looks kind of cold down in Houston.
39
up here in gravenhurst ontario canada, ice cold means you can't get in the car cuz the door's frozen shut and ya gotta call in sick to work!
Greetings From México Scotty ..... Always Good Videos ....
It was a good morning for learning from you The Mechanic .
Didn t know that even an air temp sensor from the airbox could go wrong! VIVA the electronics (only when everything works fine).
Thanks for the knowledge Scotty!
At 3:49 old school Scotty the car started and did not "Conk Out"
He's right about seafoam doing nothing for your injectors. The definitely will clean your valves though. The only problem is that seafoam won't lubricate your valves or really anything for that matter and if it does its minimal. I found its best to use seafoam deep creep for a cleaning then after a 100 miles use good ol fashioned wd40 for lubrication. This is all through your throttle body of course.
Love you Scotty. Your knowledge is appreciated.
I only understand about 30% of what you are saying Scottie, but I LOVE YOU.
2:40 I thought scotty was going to say “and since its Mechanic Monday” 😁
Berryman ChemTool B12 also has toluene in it which most “ cleaners” have petroleum distillates which is oil based....
Sea foam is awe full!!
Great power of deduction Scotty. Thanks
This was a true Car of the Year back in '97!
Hail to Scotty!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Hi Scotty
We purchased a 2012 Ford Focus in 2015, it’s been a good car expect for a few thing just as the automatic/manual transmission and the fuel pump
I went back to a Honda vehicle a CR-V and I love it we use to have a 91 Honda Accord that had 200,000 miles
My sister has her mind set on another focus but I’m trying to convince her to go with a less troublesome car like a Toyota or Honda
We’ve always had bad luck when buying used cars
What are you thoughts on the Ford Focus?
Scotty for President
Whenever Scotty Kilmers drops the new videos I roll up the fat Woolford and get all schmoked up.
You really should cut back on those, Mr. Woolford
Same brew, same
unstablebobgable You should share some with the rest of us!
stop getting high dude. it's turning your brain into mush.
Happy Halloween Scotty!!!
Happy Halloween!
Scotty you’re awesome, I watched your video on how to change a bearing a few years back and I did it in a few hours in the middle of winter.
I hear some ticking from my engine I know its not the rods or the internals in the engine but I have a feeling its somthing to do with the oil in the engine because once the oil temo goes up it suddenly runs better but if its cold the engine makes the noise. Ive replaced my spark plugs and the injectors and Ive checked the alternator the steering pumo. At the same time I feel like this car allways made a ticking noise even from the factory. 2005 hyundai accent. Its a econobox but its lasted over 250,000 miles.
I have a 14 f-150 3.7 EcoBoost with a advance traction light that's on and causing my truck to have high rpms and rough idle
Dress up as Scotty and go to a BMW dealer. LOL
SIR, SIR, GTF off the property!
Shot down on sight
Hit with a tranquilizer dart and carried quickly away
I had good luck using Seafoam cleaner .
I'm in Chicago.
It looks like December today.
What do you consider "cold" ?
I see green plants.... and can't see breath when you're speaking... looks tropical !!!
This is a rare video for Scotty ......he actually had to do some revving after the intro 🤔😂
