I was the drummer here. We had permission to perform the song. We did it as a parody. Basically, what if The Beatles had recorded Stairway To Heaven? How would it have sounded? This is what we came up with. No disrespect to Led Zeppelin... We love them! It was just a bit of fun and was part of an Australian TV series back in the early 1990s in which many different bands did their own versions of the song - Rolling Stones and The Doors included! It mightn't be perfect, but it was a laugh...
Hi John. Excellent job, quite audacious. It would have been a bigger challenge to record the song as the beatles sounded much closer to when the song was written. Imagine if it were to be a cover tune on a potential follow up album to Abbey Road. That would be VERY interesting.
Hey John. I remember when this was broadcast. It was always my 2nd favorite of the S2H covers from Money or the Gun (tied with the Doors version). 1st place had to go to Leonard Teale of course.
I remember seeing this when it aired and was amazed at the cleverness and craft that this required. I bought the album and video and have listened to it many times since. Even now I watch it on RUclips often. Thank you very much. It is beautiful.
This is from an Australian tv show in the late 80s / early 90s called ‘The Money or The Gun’. Every week they had a different tribute band on (eg. Beatles, The Doors) and they all had to play Stairway To Heaven in the style of that band. There was a CD called Stairways To Heaven, where every song was… you guessed it…
In response to standbyme, you're right. I've posted before that I was the drummer on this clip. It was based on I Wanna Hold Your Hand, but we kept incorporating Twist & Shout into the end of each bridge (middle section). At the end we converted the whole thing to Twist & Shout, which is fairly obvious. I'm glad you liked it, as compared to many other people who thought we were Devils or something! This line-up of the Beatnix disbanded in 1995. But 'John' and 'Paul' still exist as 'The Beatels'.
It's really cool how you guys were able to take "I wanna hold her hand" and "Twist and Shout" and put the Stairway to Heaven lyrics to it. Not just cool... friggin awesome... or "epic" as it has become these days.
Stairway in Beatle style? I didn’t think it was possible but this mashup is brilliant and shows exactly how it’s done! Amazing! When he sings whispering wind it sounds ridiculous though! Good job!
I have heard the original Stairway to Heaven but don't know it well, yet I absolutely love what was done here. It is so Beatlish. I love songs in the style of the Beatles.
This was nothing short of brilliant. They have incorporated numerous Beatle riffs, harmonies, hooks and other musical cues into a thoroughly amusing rendition of Stairway. Maybe the Ruttles did it first, but this was truly unique by taking the tired old Zep classic and infusing it with early Beatles styling. The mimicking of classic Beatles movements was icing on the cake. Thoroughly professional and entertaining.
I remember my dad telling me about the time he saw The Beatnix playing at Madison Square Cavern. Rinzo played a half-hour version of the "Moby Dick's Garden in the Shade" drum solo.
I have never seen this before. It is both hilarious and excellent as well as a very creative take on how the mid-60’s fab 4 would play this tune. Super fun
Can you imagine if they had actually wrote this song and released it like this? Something tells me that it still would've been a hit, although a hit with highly mysterious lyrics for the time period...
My favourite cover of Stairway, I find myself playing it like this most times, In case the viewer didn't spot it the backing is I Want To Hold Your Hand and Twist And Shout.
+Tyler Costa Actually, it was me doing the John, Steven Shipley doing the Paul, David Wood doing the George & John Taylor doing the Ringo...lots of fun too...and produced by Keith Walker!
Riffboy, yr a genius ;-) This song was from a TV show where Stairway was played in many different styles. The Beatnix did it in a Beatles style, there was a country version, even Rolf Harris with wobbleboard. It was all in good fun. I saw this band in the late 1980s and they were excellent. They play very close to the records & obviusly love The Beatles. Methinx you are just a flamer anyway. Have another beer...
They used to get a guest on this show to do a version of this song every week. The Rolf Harris one got into the charts over here and then he did an album of rock covers!
Both bands (The Beatles and Led Zeppelin) are great. That's why both of them are still listened to today. I certainly can't predict the same thing happening to other singer today. coughbiebercough
Fab! I love Beatles and Led Zeppelin - and I have a sense of humor and fine tuned sense of music appreciation that "gets it." Thanks! (No sacred cows were harmed in this production.)

Brilliant this mate. I perform in trib called Led Zed. This is going into the set 😂

@zepppublications9996 Better than Led Zep version!
I remember seeing this when it aired and was amazed at the cleverness and craft that this required. I bought the album and video and have listened to it many times since. Even now I watch it on RUclips often.
Thank you very much. It is beautiful.
I'm a fan of both bands (The Beatles and Led Zeppelin) and I think this is brilliant!

Stairway to heaven?
I was in a pretty bad mood, but then I heard this. My god, what a great arrangement.
Every couple of years I come back to the well.
Every four years I post an insightless comment to celebrate this masterpiece. See you in 2019.
+jerste Profound!
I bet I actually will see you then
+AwesomeRobot15 I certainly do hope so!
2 more years to go...
it won't be long...
I still freakin' love this. Everything I've ever wanted to do musically, encapsulated on one video. Also, I've been drinking.
Brilliant!!
me too drinking that is
🤣👍
Man, Led Zeppelin really butchered this song when they did the cover!
+EtovaKala You win the internet.
EtovaKala it's not the beatles it is a tribute band called beatnix and they sing songs like the beatles would sing it so beatles never did it
I mean...
EtovaKala. One of the funniest comments I've read in a while! Thank you!
Beatnix was an autralian ( down under) answer to the Beatles in the 60's, and a good one to11
BEST parody of this classic song!

I've always loved this cover!
same Beatnix who recorded that album It's Four You or no relation?
Its a combination of I want to hold your hand and please please me and twist and shout
Same band. I produced that album.
It's like the early Beatles continued to exist in an alternate dimension!
Pure genius. Love this.
How did I miss this all of these years?!?!?
Stairway in Beatle style? I didn’t think it was possible but this mashup is brilliant and shows exactly how it’s done! Amazing!
When he sings whispering wind it sounds ridiculous though! Good job!
What's next? I get no Walrus man?.....
we watched this in my History of Rock music class today. This is so great!
Totally brilliant, I love this!
Fantastic. Sounds like a miracle. Never heard them ever before.
The transition between "hold you hand" and "twist and shout" are cool, hard to notice they are so smooth... all the while singing stairway to heaven.
Those guys are amazing. This is totally awesome. They've really got the Beatles feel going on!
Anyone who doesn't think this is pure genius shouldn't be allowed to listen to music
This was from "Money or the Gun." Each week a different band would do a cover of Stairway to Heaven.
BROOKS39 who would tune in to that listening to the same song over and over again but in different ways
@@jbclaussner9936 Lotsa people. there were some amazing versions
I want to hold your Stairway.
@@jbclaussner9936 sadly the Rolf Harris version has disappeared after his problems
I mean it is a hell of a concept and there are a lot of great covers of this but I still think Stairway to Gilligan's Island is the best
I have heard the original Stairway to Heaven but don't know it well, yet I absolutely love what was done here. It is so Beatlish. I love songs in the style of the Beatles.
Fighting over who's better (Led Zep or the Beatles) is like arguing whether food or water is better. You need both to survive YOU JUST CAN'T DO THAT.
In this case, if Led Zeppelin was water, water's better lol
***** In that case, if there is no Zeppelin, life just isn't worth living! Physical Graffiti LIVES in our CD player. :-)
horsemann12 Thd beatles are water. You can't hate the beatles, but I could say otherwise for zepplin. both great
@@MrGOW3fan ignorant
Right Angelina , Right
I was just alerted to this, and it's found a place to fill the hole in my heart that I didn't know was empty! My god, thank you!
Now go listen to it backwards!
It tells you instructions on how to build a Viking ship
@@chrisakarazor9612 Oh darn... I was thinking it was a map to find Paul.
I love the Beatles and I love Led Zeppelin, this is great stuff! An excellent parody in good taste!

Crazy man, just cuh-razy! Love it.
This is hysterical...
I love this so much!
FANTASTIC!!!!!
An awsome and so beautiful confusion. These guys are simply great!!!! The Beatles should be pleased!
I love it! This is so well done. These guys are great!
Instant eargasm!
This isn't just the Beatles. this is early Beatles and they still rock this song.
Just discovered this. Utter genius.
Should've named it "I wanna stairway to heaven:
I wanna heave your stairway and shout.
Great imitators.
They knew how to incorporate different trademark moves and vocalizations to adapt it to a non-Beatle song.
Very talented.
As both a Zeppelin and a Beatles fan i think this made both my days laugh, and gave me 3 minutes of great music..
wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow I love this version
Let's hope UMG_MK does not get this song blocked.
i actually want to learn how to play this and sing it, this is honestly genius
Wow, this is WAY COOL!
please listen this reverse song..
This is astonishing.
What was on the B side.....let me guess...."Whole Lotta Love" in the style of "Twist and Shout"
Now if they could just reverse-engineer something like All My Loving into something similar to Zep's Stairway. That would be treat.
"Kashmir" as country-western, featuring Ringo on vocals.
NO! Just NO!
Get back - good times style , and i do not mean JJ Evans Kid Dynomight
Twist and Shout is at the end of this one.
If you play this backward and listen carefully you can hear "Satan wants to hold your hand".
+Martin Genesius Hahaha made my day
hahahahaaha
Best Commment ever!!!
This is GENIUS!
All that glitters is gold, and this is definitely GOLD
Genius!
Hehehe hahaha they are going to the toppermost of the poppermost!
This is great. It would have gone straight to #1 in 1965!
So catchy
This is hilarious. Australia's version of The Rutles
nah, listen to it backwards and it says 'its been a hard days satanic rite'
This is so friggin' wonderful.
Absolutely brilliant!!! Ha ha!!!
Shows that the lyrics to "Stairway" are pretty ridiculous when taken out of context.
Actually, they're pretty ridiculous in context, too.
Also how long winded and indulgent zep was sometimes. They managed to cut this song to about 1/3 the length.
@@lordcinturon oh stop
Hahaha :) It's actually pretty impressive people can cover Stairway like this! It had the typical Beatles-vibe to it! Hilarious!
This is way beyond brilliant!
BEST... VERSION... EVER...
My ears are confused...
Rick Wright on lead vocals it looks.
+Tyler Costa Actually, it was me doing the John, Steven Shipley doing the Paul, David Wood doing the George & John Taylor doing the Ringo...lots of fun too...and produced by Keith Walker!
No, his name is John Lennon
Hi The. No, that is not John Lennon, it was me pretending to be John...though thanks for the compliment :)
This is awesome!
This was Awesome! Just to hear a twist on such a classic song!
Again, another example of Led Zeppelin stealing a song and claiming it as their own!
The Beatnix's version is better than Led Zep's version.
wtf
+Dave F Hahaha! I agree Dave!
Dave F NO. NO!!!!
What
Dave F fuck
Amazing and perfect.
OMG, this is GREAT!
This is absolutely brilliant and original! Who would have tought!!! LOL

Amazing!! First time I've ever see or heard of this group!!
These needs to be on TV
This is absolutely brilliant!
Speaking as an old person who lived for dinosaur rock, I honestly like this version of Stairway better than the original. Bravo to the Beatnix!
I loved it. They're pretty good. Stairway to heaven was getting old anyhow.
This is FANTASTIC! I am sure all parties who created this song would be VERY ENTERTAINED by this clever creation!
STUNNING!!!!!!
Brilliant and hilarious...well done!
Extremely clever and well done !
Can't buy me a stairway to love.

I just CANT STOP coming back to this!!!!!
