Use Esc for releasing the pen tool...and to reflect..just click on the reflect tool...choose horizontal/vertical reflect and click on copy...simpler ways.

I often try to make the figure without seeing your tutorial first.
I startet with one line and reflected the line, so they cross one another. Then I put a circle between two lines on one side.
Remove the oder side and reflect this part 180° and there is your figure without the need of a lot of small corrections.
    Just another way!

This was helpful! But I cut out a few of the steps and I think it made the end result smoother, getting rid of the asymmetries I can see in the vid's result.
I used the 45 degree angle from center trick on the four points where my lines would cross and deleted the center anchor point like the video does. Then I just connected those four anchor points with the pen tool to make the center cross. Then you just delete the segment in between the anchor points at the end of your new lines! No eyeballing where the tangent should go, no extra anchor points to delete the center part.
This might not work if you want your center bit to be a bit curvier than you'd get from the 45 degree angle trick, so you'd have to find a different way to place your anchor points in the same spots. But if you got creative with a straight line or maybe a rectangle, and used Illustrator to rotate it to a certain angle, you could maintain your consistency by using it as a ruler. Then you could zoom way in to place your anchor points. Probably not the most elegant hack, but it'd work.
You could also probably get away with dragging a guide down to where you want the top 2 anchor points to go, copying and horizontally reflecting the two circles so they overlap, dragging your guide down to where the flipped circles' anchor points are, deleting the duplicate, and using the guide to place your other two. This way's probably easier.
Disclaimer, I haven't actually tried either of those because the 45 degree version works for what I wanted. But you folks are clever, I'm sure you can figure it out with some tweaking.

After watching your tutorials, I've taken up the habit of setting all my AI files to 1920 x 1080. Gives so much more room to work in, magnifications much more sensible, and so are the guides and stuff.

I love your videos. You are really good at explaining things and features of the tools that you use. Most creative youtubers just skip that part or assume that people who are watching their videos are not noobs. You take good amount of time to do the work so that people can keep up with the pace of you. Keep up the good work. I really learn a lot from your videos. Best wishes for your future! :)

I stumbled in, thinking that I would just watch one of your tutorials to get the creative juices flowing for the day and 1,5h later realized I had watched at least 3-4 tutorials and completely lost track of time. Well done ;) I'm a fan, will come back to learn new skills (there's always creative ways, even when you think you know it all already!)

The video is very good, of course, explanatory, no nonsense, you explain it very well, if it turns out to be boring, I can't speak English, I can pronounce some things in English, I can talk very little, but as incredible as it may seem, I didn't get lost in your video and I had subtitles turned off, when I didn't understand any part, I would stop back, see what you were doing, heard the explanation and do it the same way.
Thank you helped me a lot.

    Reviewing": A powerful tool.
Things I like about this video:
    1. Practical visual and auditory lesson format in English.
    2. Reviewing: Continuous reiteration of the shortcuts and their functions.
    3. Bite-sized steps for the beginner/intermediate to brush up or learn new AI pen tips.
    4. Bonus: Follow along in AI and make this useful vector for your own files.
    5. Mistakes were corrected in real time (4:11 min. "lock on" step).
    6. Thumbs up for:
The rate of flow seems effectively paced, without extraneous verbiage.
A smooth audio quality and voice volume range. Bonus: Nice accent.
The author addresses comments and questions in an interactive written format.
ADHD *user-friendly (no background noise or music).
    Subjective detail observations to consider:
    1. An unknown factor: *View window of the author speaking.
Q: Might it be an optional selection? See ADHD.
    2. Providing a text (link?) of numbered lesson steps in an outline format (cheat sheet).
    3. For the beginner: Further clarification at 3:18 min when lines of "X" are connected to the circles and 5:32 min. when selecting four new anchor point placements that line up with each other?
    Smiles,
    Constance
    PS
Dear Dansky, (I doubt many will read this far, so this is for you).
Your professional ethics are showing when you respond to heated criticism with poise. This is a hard room to work!
    RE: Reviewing
Educating via written format is a method that I use to help with my referencing and understanding of content. You need not keep it in your comments if you do not wish to.
    I welcome your feedback also.
    Keep up your good form!
    Smiles,

You could've just made a perfect square, rotate it by 45° and completely round off all the corners except the right one. Then duplicate it and reflect it vertically.

What is the function of expand tool. And difference between expand and expand appereance

    • @ForeverDansky
      @ForeverDansky  3 года назад

Expanding converts things like strokes and other effects into standard shapes whereby the stroke is no longer editable, and the shape will then have a fill colour instead. For example, if I draw a horizontal straight line it will be made up of two anchor points, after expanding the shape it will be made up of 4 anchor points and be treated as a regular 4 sided shape will a fill colour (rather than a line/stroke). Expand Appearance only expands the 'Appearance' effects that are typically added from the 'Effects' menu at the top of the screen. The main reason for expanding shapes is to finalise certain aspects and effects, that will enable the use of other tools and techniques - because sometimes if a shape hasn't already been expanded, future results may be undesireable. Hope this helps :)

    Dansky,
At around 3:00 minutes you start connecting the four ends of the middle "X" to each circle. At this point, I wondered how you were deciding where each connection would be (to have them line up). Might I use guides or a rectangle imposed here to determine the correct spacing of these four connections? Does the program have any other tools to make this happen?
    Thanks!

Dansky Dansky if you do this by hand it might look good at first but if you print it on a big poster you might see an edge where the line touches the circle. And even if you can't see it mathematical imperfection would still exist. This wouldn't be acceptable if you do this professionally. You should use a script (that calculates perfect tangents to points on cicles) for this.
