i'm just going to say it... Illustrator is shit at drawing shapes. Use a CAD program since they have options to connect circles tangent, draw line perpendicular, the trimming and filets are painless ect ect ect. Then take it into illustrator and polish it up, give it line art and colors as you see fit, and bingo. It's embarrassing that illustrator isn't better at basic shape drawing after all these years.
I Love your stuff. I'm a digital illustrator focusing on artwork now and not graphics. I use Illustrator every day for a living, and print out of Photoshop, as an old AirBrush artist I enjoy the line work In illustrator it reminds me of all the line work I had to do to sketch out the work on paper. I just discovered your RUclips channel by happenstance and I want to thank you for some of the fun tricks, a lot of them I had figured out on my own but you have come up with things I had never thought about and I wanna thank you.
Thank you! Also make sure you have all of your shapes/objects selected before selecting the Shape Builder Tool. If it isn't working, zoom in very close and check that the lines/paths are actually touching or overlapping. Switching into 'Outline' mode with Command/Ctrl + Y can make this easier, as this enables you to view the design as more of a wireframe 👍
Dansky, thank you so much for explaining the process as you go along. You have so much great knowledge, and I thank you for sharing it. I have seen so many other tutorials that don't explain anything, they even have music turned on instead of explaining the process. Again, thank you.
These are excellent *Vector Graphics Techniques* which should not be confused with *Logo Design* as that is an entirely different process and is not dependent upon software.
I am glad I found this channel. I am still starting out with graphic design. I am so excited about the process. I've been using Canva now i wanna chill with the big boss
Great video! One small problem: it's probably an error on my part. When I use my shape builder, it is still getting rid of most of the circle. I have created a small intersection with the line, but it's still doing the same thing as before. Any tips on this would be highly appreciated!😊
My God. How long does it take for someone to get acquainted with this program to be able to do that?! I just downloaded Illustrator a few days ago and I feel like a bumbling idiot!
With all due respect-I mean this more as a suggestion than a criticism-moving those parts out of alignment is unnecessary and creates the need to realign them, which is almost impossible to do accurately without plugins like Astute Manager, for instance. The faster and more accurate method, in my experience, is to overlap the ellipse as a solid fill temporarily set to the "Darken" blend mode and without the stroke, and then use either the Pathfinder or Shape Builder to create the new shape exactly in place. This ensures that the parts are in perfect alignment even when printed to billboard size or larger. Nice conceptual video otherwise.
no matter what I do, the stroke tips do not get alined with the circles, to have them aligned, I must make the middle like much smaller and not close to the circles, therefore, I got stuck at that step, and couldn't get past it. I wonder what sorcery have you made! because these perfect alignments only work in the video.
Hey try this Luciana! Hold Alt/Option when using the Width Tool and this will enable you to scale the width of just one side of the stroke to zero. Then you can do the same on the other side to adjust the width of the highlight to your liking 😊
Small tip, double click your shape builder tool and you can change your gap tolerance rather than changing the paths to intersect. Another thing I like to do when aligning straight lines off a circle is to rotate the circle by x degrees, so that one of the circles path anchor point ends out where you want your straight line to align on, that way the two points will snap to each other.
Great video Danksy! Just one question: Why did you choose the shapebuilding tool instead of the pathfinder? Doesn't the last one save you a lot of work by just splitting the shapes? Or does that have any negative effects?
Thanks Julian! 😊 Typically, I use the shape builder tool for more intricate areas of a design, especially if I need to twist and turn the cursor to combine segments. The pathfinder panel is generally better suited to combining simpler shapes, and also lots of shapes in one click, where more detailed work isn’t required 👍
@@ForeverDansky now it's aligned , thanks alot, i am starting in illustrator and those small details are annoying , do you have a tutorial on illustrator basics ?
I wish illustrator follow the super intuitive bezier path tools of coreldraw. It lays out everything regarding path manipulation in a nice toolbar on top.
Thnx for the video! very thankful, but I have a question, when you're editing in ill, how do you switch from one mode to the other? There are times when the logo is seen without color, the contour lines are visible. On the other hand, in the other mode it is seen with the colors and the fillings
"the more you zoom in the better the results" ...or you could do things the correct way and actually line things up properly instead of eye balling everything. this is such a messy and imprecise workflow considering how geometric this design is.
Lining up everything correctly at a max zoom of 64000% gives indiscernible precision, and sometimes (depending on the design) we just have to eyeball it, and it's important that a designer knows how, so where necessary they can get the job done.
rename to "illustrator tricks" lol
Watching from Nepal 🇳🇵
amazing coach

Make video exporting logo for ig pfp (exported settings need for it not to pixelate)
Thanks for the tips
You're welcome Sawad 🙂
Amazing Video
Thanks!
👍👍
Please Show all tutorial Slowly. Because we are trying to learn something from you.
Very cool to watch how easily you navigated this design only to try and duplicate it and have Illustrator be the fussy little tramp that it is.
The fact that illustrator is still unable to do tangent lines/circles/curves is unimaginable 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️

It's amazing how much refinement those two highlights added to the overall look.
Thank you! Yea, the more subtle details can sometimes make a big difference 👍
Is there an inside joke calling people sexy "w.e random animal" lol I was called a sexy penguin on another channel
Haha... thought it was just me! Good to know there are other creators out there calling random people sexy animals 🐧😂
You could have done this with the pathfinder tool and not dragged the pieces away and back again.
Learned a lot of new things.. not just 13! Amazing!

Hi Dansky, do you design logos as a business too? Do you have a website or a place I can go to?

You are too fast. This is an issue for the people whose second language is English.
sounds like a you problem
this video reminds me of how much i despise illustrator. such an imprecise pos :) wish it was more like figma
i have a question , in the end they are all separate segments , should we have to group them or we can send it to client like separate segments ?
get better logo for your own :P

Aha cheers John.
Thank you
Very very Usefull!! and Fun Example to practise with❤❤
Glad to hear that! 😀
could you make video about making logos that use empty space (don't know the technical term) to make it easy to transpose onto any colour background?
Sure I can look at that. The term is ‘Negative Space’ 👍
Thank you!!! Always wanted to know how to do that 😂 I absolutely love your videos!
You are so welcome Abril, glad it was helpful 😊
Just found your channel....thank god! ;)
Welcome! 😊

Thank you, that’s very kind of you 😊
Thank you,
Can you make a video for combination of 'BH' characters logo?
with request from my side
I didn't understand how you change the mode to outline.
Command / Ctrl + Y (keyboard shortcut keys, depending on whether you’re using a Mac or PC 👍
Wowo, thx for this tehnique!
Give up illustrator and embrace Figma
Figma doesn’t have all the tools I need 😉
good sir
Please add Persian subtitles
Thanks.. I was wondering how to do this..
I love how you try to respond every one in comments section
Thanks Joel, yea I do try 😊
What's that light in the back?
thanks alot for this tutorial , but when i use the alignment tool it squeeze the shapes together instead of aligning it , what i am doing wrong ?
Is the shape selected with the Selection Tool? If you have the Direct Selection Tool selected, it will align anchor points instead of shapes 👍
@@ForeverDansky now it's aligned , thanks alot, i am starting in illustrator and those small details are annoying , do you have a tutorial on illustrator basics ?

I certainly did Patricia 🦡😂
You make things complicated your logo design is not properly done the shape is distortedly created & the outcome is not good
you’re the best.

How to zoom and move page quickly without change the tool?
Spacebar is the shortcut for the Hand Tool to quickly pan around. Cmd/Ctrl + Plus or Minus keys to zoom in and out 😊

👍
amazing tutorial.
for removing the extra (overlapping) line you could also use JOIN TOOL @2:52

Save yourself a lot of trouble by initially rotating the circles 45 degs.
best teacher ever! Thank you.
How to make it a proper logo, with gradients not live?
