- These are clips of TV DX originally posted by oldfldxer, whose RUclips channel shut down in late 2015. They were recorded in St. Petersburg, Florida in late 1988/ early 1989. The graphics were added by me. This video is posted for nonprofit educational purposes only.
Stations included: KLRN, KABB, KXAN, KGMC, KXTX, KDFI, WYHS, KMSS, KETH, KAVU, WLPB, KATC, KLAX, WBRZ, WWL, WAFB, WAGT, WUNM, WMAZ, KHSH, KLRU, KWKT, KFWD, KTXH, KNCT, KWEX, KTMD, KHTV, WALA, WDBD, KHBS, KLRT, KARD, KATV, WCLP, WSAV, WCIX, CMQ, WMBB, WCCB, WCCT, WFGX, WTAT, WLTZ, KRIV, KVUE
Disclaimers: I have nothing to ID these stations by except what I see in the clips, therefore it's assumed none of these catches were of translators or full-power repeaters. The clips are not in chronological order (WCCT changed its call letters before KFWD come on the air). All distances are city-to-city.

Wow, thank you for saving these videos - I always wondered what became of oldfldxer's channel. There are some amazing DX catches on this clip!
Channel 6 WCIX, Miami, is now Channel 4 WFOR. WTVJ, which had been on channel 4, is now Channel 6. This occurred during one of the "Big Switches", which take place occasionally in Florida. WCIX/WFOR is a CBS O&O station and WTVJ is an NBC O&O station.
Wow! Getting KATC, WMAZ, WMBB, KWKT and WALA in St Pete? I assume WEDU, WTVT, WTOG, and WTSP were off the air at that time of the recording.
I grew up in rural MS, and remember a lot of these. I used to get the UHF stations at night during tropo ducting. The VHF-Lo stations I’d often get with sporadic-E.
WXTV-41 in Patterson, NJ also used that ID slide pattern of KWEX. Caught them once in VA.
List Of SMPTE Colorbars Channels:
2:09 33 KMSS
2:46 3 KATC
2:52 31 KLAX
3:40 19 WUNM
4:40 20 KTXH
4:57 48 KTMD
5:26 40 KHBS
5:30 16 KLRT
5:43 7 KATV
That did not sign on yet.
Love that black and white bulls-eye test pattern at 5:57!
It seemed a bit out of date for 1989, perhaps they didn't have the cash
oldfldxer is the king of dxers.
Impressive distances for UHF, I presume most of those stations were not on VHF channels, as VHF TV DX was and is mostly ionospheric sporadic E and not so much tropospheric refractive propagation.
6:11 a different country!
KNCT-TV NOTICE:
KNCT was sold to Gray Television in 2019
and is now a CW affiliate.
The tentative KXTX is confirmed, that was KXTX's logo at that time.

I did a map of it before you did. Thanks for putting it back up. ;)
The KAVU catch is from January 17, 1989
whoever dxed got some of my local channels on there
I was thinking about the final episode of cheers. 1:40
