The WBRC footage is actually from it's former translator station, W29AO, which is now off the air permanently. Also, the WRAL footage is from WKFT, because WRAL's transmitter was knocked down by an snowstorm a year before so WKFT was simulcasting WRAL, until it's transmitter was rebuilt in October 1990.

5:24 is from April 1990 as Capital News only aired for a few episodes in April.

Sure looks like "KETH" call letters on the "tentative" one. A bit surprised there was no Tidewater or Richmond stations, especially considering how well Raleigh was coming through.

+dtvdxer I set a high bar for "tentative vs positive". I squinted and replayed the clip a few times, and just couldn't eliminate all doubt.
As for Richmond stations, oldfldxer did log them (they were apparently his limit for tropo). But I assume the signals were too weak to make good recordings.

I'm the nerd that just watched 5 tropo videos to see Panama City finally make the cut... only to get 5 seconds of off air buzz... sadface.

When I was down in Jacksonville around that same time, the furthest away I picked up was Miami (WPLG 10 ABC). Was also picking up Gainesville, Orlando, Tallahassee, etc.

I used to watch WNOL 38 (3:12) WGNO 26 (4:38) and WVUE 8 (5:10). They did a big swap when Fox got NFL in ‘94. Fox went to 8, and ABC went to 26. 38 went indie, now CW.

1762 km? What power had station transmitter there? It's rather sporadic, not a tropo...
