  • Stop detraining speed and athletiscism with fatigue, tired athletes. Traditional conditioning detrains many of the qualities of athleticism that should be the priority. Across all sports, the training of the CNS through speed work, lifting, jumping, and bounce should be the priority in all training. Tired is the enemy, not the goal!

    Few things are more welcome than to end the week with a new Coach Holler video. I remember a speed-training group for distance runners where we always ran 3 miles in all manner of combinations - ladders, 3 x 1, 6 x 1/2, etc. Trouble is, we ran everything all-out. Slower guys like me got a lot faster, but I always felt a nagging doubt - my body craved the experience of running really all-out for much shorter distances, and working on form. Intuitively, it seemed essential, but there were a lot of runners who'd been at it much longer and, I thought, knew better. I worked in a small organic market, and on my noon breaks I would run hell-for-leather at top sprint speed the 50 y to the mail room. Very enjoyable. I think my body was on to something, and I believe it's why FTC has such huge appeal for me. We know by some sure instinct what's good for us, and the benefits to be derived from small doses of max effort. When we're sick we feel lousy, and when we're well we feel great. And when we do the right stuff there are subtle signals that are very satisfying. My 2 cents.

    just returned from a 7 day (endurance) training camp with my club. I hope there is a single FTF left in my legs. your video makes me feel even more guilty. maybe I can convince myself I gained at least some speed endurance (just kidding).

    7:07 The only things that really make the game easy or slow down are 1. being the best athlete 2. knowing situations and what to do, or 3. Both

    Coach, my question then becomes - how do basketball players, boxers, and the like approach skill work (in the context of the feed the cats system)? You want to get your 500 made 3 pointers in a session, or you want to focus on perfecting your jab, wouldn’t we become fatigued still? We can’t just stop once we are tired, right? 😊

    Coach!! I have lost the networking opportunities with many 1:39 coaches because they continue to coach from the same poisonous ☠️ environment. Nice way of saying they did not receive the message positively. Lol 😆 I just have an issue with student athletes not getting top best coaching!!

    What’s up!! Question? So how do you best set up summer workout plans for a basketball team in order from them to Sprint , jump , lift heavy and work on skills in one session . Do you alternate between lifting and sprinting due to having to actually have practice?

    Hey coach, I was looking at some of your programs online. What would be a good starting point for me to pick up? I love learning about new modalities of training and have recently become super interested in speed work. I eventually would like to do some coaching/training on the side for my kids so just looking for some guidance.

    two trainings/practises a day is very good! If done correctly the 2nd training is very positive influecened from the 1st. There is indeed a CNS activation that last some time.
    It's the way those training are sceduled. One in the late morning and one in the evening works best. Enough rest time in between.
    I and my group all had training PBs in such double session in the 2nd evening session. Everyone!

    Coach, for lactate workouts, what’s the process in determining when to use the 23 second drill vs the 4x4 predictor?

    • @coachtonyholler
      @coachtonyholler  5 месяцев назад

      We do 23 early, indoors.
      Predictors later, outdoors.
