Why did the chicken cross the road? To get cooked in my BBQ! Here is the best chicken BBQ method ever: ruclips.net/video/ZMkMHS_IWX0/видео.html
Or maybe it crossed the road, screaming, "Help me! Help me! The man's gonna kill me!!!!" :)
I love BBQ chicken. Your recipe sounds good.
Suggestion: a trail bike would be an alternative form of transport for when you don't have a passenger or a lot of shopping. Your ATV would get used less and wouldn't need repair as often. I get the impression that those ATVs are sold for looks rather than utility. A side-by-side might be better.
The garden is doing well. You can bag your ripe tomatoes in freezer bags and freeze them till you want to use them. Your extra pumpkins can be made into pies and muffins. Also, once your potato leaves die back, they are done growing. You can then harvest them. Lots of goodness this year.
I'm really looking forward to the pumpkin.
Small side x side with tracks. The 520 that Shawn James has would fit the bill nicely. Set of tracks for mud and snow....you'll never look back. Tracks aren't as hard on the trail due to footprint and flotation. 520 still only 50 inches wide so no trail widening needed either.
Should I add I work for a Honda dealer? Yamaha too!!!! Long time subscriber sir!!!
@@brentcoull3295 Brent would a sidebyside take the pounding that his atv does on that trail of his? Especially the water crossings ? We have a terribly rough trail to our hunt camp and a sidebyside just wouldn't cut it although an Argo does!
@@redcanoe9810 great questions. If the trail was fixed up a little once and for all, 4 season tracks are far less damaging due to sheer traction. It would definitely be harder with the existing trail conditions. Very valid points.
4 season tracks are different than winter tracks?
@RaspberryRockOffGridCabin yes sir, they are. 4 season tracks use a bogie wheel system with bearings that can run year round. Some track systems use a plastic slide rail system that needs snow to lubricate it and keep things cool. Camso out of Quebec is my track system of choice. Once the first install and set up is done the system can be swapped for tires in about an hour. There is care and maintenance involved as well so there is a trade off there. I have customers who are trappers, Maple sap producers, hunters, farmers.....
For your tomatoes let them ripen then blanch and peel you can freeze them and use them all winter long in chili or sauces, and salsas.
Others are saying not to peel them before freezing. Thoughts?
@@RaspberryRockOffGridCabin I froze mine peel and all like everyone suggested in Booxefest and they seem to be fine
I'd say get a side by side with the dump bed. Surely there are some that aren't too wide for the trail. Have a great weekend!
And that would come in handy for him for sure 😊
Pam!
I’d say get a side by side. Just without the windows. They’ll get dirty and scratched up really quick and it’ll be tough to see out. Maybe add a light bar or trail lights to the side by side and you’d be all set. If you still have that bass pro/cabellas sponsorship maybe you can get one of their brand side by sides.
I could take the windows out for spring/summer/fall, but I'd need them for winter to keep the heat in.
Russ ...harvest the potatoes. Once the foliage dies back, it's time. Bring a bag.....you'll probably get about 10 lbs from those planters....maybe more. Store in a cool place....get a steak, a beer, butter, onion, potato.....bbq. Cheers....from the cottage this week.
hello Russel. I don't say hi often, but am with you every step of the way. Take Care Of Your Family My Friend. I Lost to of my children this year. Love on your children while you can. Big Hugs To Your Whole Family and my sweet Dogs of yours. See You On The Other Side.
Sorry to hear that ..
😢😢So sorry for your double loss!!!!! I have 3 sons, 44, 42, 39.I can't imagine losing one, let alone two😢💔 Please take comfort in memories of your children❤❤❤
Exactly what I needed today! A Raspberry Rock video! Thank you! ❤
Thanks Sharon!
A side by side with cargo space comes to mind. You would have to do some trail widening.
Hi Richard
I'd love to see you get a side-by-side. ❤ Plus I am enjoying Willow and JunBug's visits over to the Hollabbey Homestead . They both seem to enjoy their time there.
Chris it's funny, they get excited if they see a squirrel running along the far side of the pond here. At Robyn's there's a LOT going on all the time. Chickens, turkeys, dogs, oh my!
Good morning Russell, really enjoyed seeing more of the property and those temperatures you mentioned are much more to my liking too, maybe even a little cooler as autumn is my favourite time of year, bugs disappear, etc…
I know what you mean about car mechanic details, certainly not my area of expertise either.
Good to see the garden is doing well, can’t beat a home grown tomato.
Thank you for sharing this interesting video with everyone.
Best wishes to you and City Girl, have a great weekend.
Russell, you and City Girl are ready to upgrade to something bigger for your garden--stock tanks!! You don't have to fill them all the way with soil, but it will provide more space, deeper soil (so you're corn doesn't tip over😉) and watering is much easier and moisture will hold better. Just do it! 😉
👍👍👍👍👍
Stock tanks is a good idea. It's like a step between pots and raised beds. I like it.
Get a SxS that is shaft driven, skip belt ones they like to slip in the cold and wet. Canam and Polaris do not have shaft driven models.
Is it because it's belt-driven that I have such a hard time changing gears? That's easily the worst thing about Can-am.
The front end noise sounds like a CV joint
Could be, I don't remember at all what he told me.
Price i saw in Perth ON for the commander XT was $27,800.
Was that the base? Because after that I have a ton of accessories I'd need to add on.
You have almost in repairs as the cost of the RTV ---- I would have bought a Honda at the start- great videos!
The first ATV I bought after buying this property was a Honda! It was a Foreman 450. Wasn't powerful enough and didn't have power steering.
I wish you could test a few types of rigs on your trail before buying. Also thinking of all the seasons. Mud, rain, winter. What to do.
Shawnee I would love to try different types of vehicles. I might borrow Robyn's sometime.
My son just bought a 6 x 6 side-by-side Can-Am. That thing is a beast. I haven’t been out in it but from what he’s telling me, he took it out hunting once and I’ve been on that trail and it’s nasty. He drove all the way back to his hunting spot And back 2 Wheel drive withNo problem didn’t get stuck at all and on the way back he had always gear plus one moose in the back. He figured he had probably had 1500 pounds back there. It didn’t give him any problems
What options did he get on it and what did it cost?
What you might consider... rent a man + bulldozer... like a Caterpillar D7 (the big daddy) and make a dirt road from the parking to the cabin. The Caterpillar will be able to move as much dirt as you need to get rid of dips in the land. It will move anything in the way... rocks, trees, etc. It doesn't have to be a perfect road, just a fire trail sort of thing. You could probably get a guy to do it in a few days work. It would be well worth the money, and make your property much more practical. As you age, that trail you have now is going to make you move out. Once you have an established fire trail, once a year you hire the same guy for a day to do maintenance. Also, the nice thing about bringing in a big machine is you can reconsider that path, maybe come up with a better more direct route.
"log trail caterpiller D7"
If he does that wouldn’t he get more unwanted traffic?
@@rvhome5599 - set it back a few hundred feet from parking, then put up private property signs, private driveway, etc.
Most of the trail is on my neighbour's property and he wants to keep the trail as natural as possible.
@@RaspberryRockOffGridCabin - you're screwed, bro... get a helicopter. Do it for City Girl!
Howdy. Side by side looks efficient. ❇️💞❇️
Hi Janet!
Should have bought a Honda Foreman or a Rubicon 700, CanAm isn't rated very good, but you da man.
My first ATV after buying the property was a Honda Foreman 450.
Hi Russel.. Love the road trip music 🎶 city girl deserves a more comfortable ride into the cottage.. you both did a great job with the garden IMO .. stay safe waiting for city girl ❤❤
Thanks. Our best garden ever.
You should check out the Polaris side by side trail model. It’s 50” wide with 75 horsepower. Would be perfect for your trail
I'm not opposed to Polaris.
Considering you tend to beat the snot out of your ATV. It might be a good time to replace and upgrade.
Snot beaten.
@@RaspberryRockOffGridCabin so you took the plunge?
Wash, core those tomatoes and put them in a freezer bag to use later this winter. The skins will just come off them when run under some water.
Others are just saying wash, dry, and bag them in the freezer, Deb.
@@RaspberryRockOffGridCabin So much easier to remove the core first. They'll just slip out of their skins after running under some water,
Great video! I would definitely freeze some tomatoes for when she gets back to the cabin.
I will attempt to do so, Krispi.
Hi Russel yes I agree City girl sure does need a more comfy ride to camp , it would be good for you as well and may help your back . The garden is doing so well in the new location well done. You enjoy the computer that is why you do good working on them, ( I just know how to screw em up). we all have something were good at. Hey that is a great idea try a motion sensor for those pesky beaver never know.. nice video and chat Russel .
Thanks Sue
Try a fully enclosed Rhino that you can take out panels, they just work. At 61 it’s hard to been down and successfully work on anything anymore.
I'm 55, I'm catching up to you.
Potato plants are doing fine they die off on top . You dig them up when the tops are brown.
Great video Russell!! Sorry City Girl is gone so much. The garden looks great, I think everyone has had an abundance of rain this summer. Hope you are able to upgrade your ATV soon
Me too Ruby.
Thanks Chef Russell!😊🐕🦺🦮🏠🇨🇦👍👍👍👍✌️
Like that red and black ATV with doors!! 👍🏻 That chicken looks really tasty...thanks for the link will def look at that for our next bbq.
Let me know how the chicken turns out, Scarlet.
Googgle stewed tomatoes. Its a southern dish but really tasty
I need CG for the tomato things.
I'd steer clear of Can-am full stop. Not a good record here in OZ, try Suzuki, Yamaha, and Honda instead
Well I am tired of the stupid shifting gears thing.
Your garden looks great, my goodness 👍
Thanks Chris
As most folks have said...get a side by side. But not from the shop you've been getting the old one worked on. They've bent you over for years now.
The guys at that shop have been really good to me. I don't mind sending them more business.
Aww. We miss CG too! Pea Soup Russel. PS: I totally agree. We all have innate talents for certain things. Computers, cars, cooking, but sometimes they are not easy to master.
Thanks Caroline. Oddly, I remember more about cooking than I do about cars.
The tomatoes put in a freezer bag freeze whole, you can use another time, works great. Then there is no waste.
Gonna try it Debbie.
Frezing tomato is good
Shift linkage needs to be adjusted, that is why it’s popping out of gear. Mine did it , as well as a lot of other machines . Can am brakes pads suck. They wear quickly more when there is dirt riding is involved. Clicking might be a cv joint . All of the problems I mentioned are caused from using your machine. I have a 1000 outlander and I have the same issues . R stands for racing . SXS like that start at around 20,000$ .
No doubt you're right. Wish I understood the problems better.
@@RaspberryRockOffGridCabin I quad a lot and do my own work , lots of FB groups I’m in about can am’s it help a guy out a lot .
Good luck with your machine !
Sell the worthless excavator and buy a badass ATV!
Oh it's definitely not worthless.
hey Russell! hello everyone from Vancouver Island
You were first Jennifer!
Pick those ripe tomatoes!!! Come on Mr. Russel. Cook your eggs in them in the morning! Delish. Add hot sauce and peppers, salsa for burgers or grilled chicken. Chop up and add hot red pepper flakes and whatever else you like, it makes a good spread for sandwiches and hoagies. You love hoagies.
You cook eggs in tomatoes?
Make chili or salsa with your tomatoes. ❤
That was City Girl's plan.
Know how many times my six year old Honda Pioneer 1000 and Rubicon 500 have been in for repairs? Zero.
How often do you use them?
Good luck with the ATV. Thanks for sharing.
Quarter those tomatoes and freeze them until City Girl is ready to use them for sauce. Don’t let those go to waste, my friend. You still have that freezer? Put it to use for the garden veggies, you won’t regret saving all the veggies you can.
I just have my fridge freezer so I don't have much space. But I will freeze some.
I really like my Polaris Ranger 500. It’s less than 5’ wide and has a nice dumping cargo box. Something like that may work well on your narrow trails.
Have you ever thought of getting a Jeep instead of atv? Would have to work on widening the trail some but I believe an older, slightly modified Jeep would be cheaper and just as effective and easier to get worked on.
My FJ Cruiser is a great off road vehicle but it's nothing compared to ATV's and side-by-sides.
Love your haircut
Tomatoes are PERFECT and BEAUTIFUL
Give Russel your best service.. you are on RUclips… what advert could you have.. !!!!…with all his subscribers…good for business …😊
They've been real good to me, Jan.
At time 35:32 I saw a mallard duck hanging from a tree
LOL, yup a decoy we found in the pond and hung up .
A Pat Haveman sighting!
@@RaspberryRockOffGridCabin you were looking at some new machines in the video well I think you should also look at Argo’s 8x8 and get tracs with it for winter. You’ll never have to worry about beavers again because you will never get stuck. I believe a Argo would be more beneficial to someone like you and your situation.
@@TheRampAgent Based on your extensive experience riding argos on trails like mine, I will consider them.

Which one do you own?

Hi Russell, Yamaha, or Honda, all the best.
Yamaha, Honda, and all the Best to you as well.
I use a vacuum sealer for anything I freeze. Put one in or two. No air means lasting longer.
Russel, just a little biological lesson :-) Neither Whales or Seals are fishes, they are just mammals like us humans :D Love your crazy rants when you are walking home without the 4x4.. Keep the nice videos coming, they are so entertaining.. Take care // Micke / Sweden.
If we have too many tomatoes, we just cut them up and put them in the freezer and use them for soups and chili in the fall and winter
It's a good idea, I just don't have much freezer space. But I will freeze some.
Thanks for another great video Russell. Have a great week. ✌️
Hello Russell. Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed watching. I could see you and City Girl in one of those side by sides! I love your chicken recipe. Make it all the time. Stay safe.
Thanks AB!
Stop messing around and get you a nice ATV.😊
Every one has their forte. You are gifted with computers, I am not. My talent happens to be in the automotive realm. We all can't know everything right, although I know many who think they do.
The right varieties of pumpkins will store very well. Last growing season produced 50 odd pumpkins, average weight 8 kilograms. I still have 6 or 7 left, even after sharing many with the community. I've just planted pumpkin seeds for this spring. So just pick the type that store well. Cheers mate.
Woah wait, you already planted pumpkin for next year?
Always enjoy your videos Russell. Wish y'all the best.

I’ve only watched 3 seconds and the answer is YES!!!!!
Nice.
Looking at the bumper of your FJ I wander if you check it for frame rust, I had one that the frame had to be replaced , time to get a more comfortable ATV one those large ones
Yeah I can't open the backdoor. The Wizard is working on a replacement.
I also think this is cool with that hurricane water, good point. Circle of life... Thanks for this review :D
Apparently it's also the water the dinosaurs drank. Can you imagine that? Dinosaur pee from the sky!
I just traded my can am 570 for a can am defender utv 700 hd. It was best decision I have made. Much better for my wife and I.
Interesting, you did what I want to do. What do you use it for?
@@RaspberryRockOffGridCabin firewood and chores around the yard with the dump bed ( moving dirt, brush, etc) and for driving trails up at my cabin in Maine. Best decision I have made and 1 registration instead of 2 for 2 ATV’s.
The clacking sound you hear when you turn I heard it when you loaded on the trailer that’s distinct sound. You got a broken axle shaft or CV joint
Honestly I forget what he said.
Hi Russell, I think you should get one of those side by sides, they are nice machines
Be ready to be floored when you check out the prices on those sidexsides lol...I have the 6x6 Can Am its close to 10 years old, running great. My brother has the Can Am 1000 tracked you have to try out an ATV that is tracked, maybe they have rentals???? Its the cats meow.
Tracked would be great, but $5000 installed, or so I've heard.

Raw chicken taste test going to make you RUN to the toilet 😮
Yeah you need to cook it to the proper temperature. Leave it on the grill longer and you'll get better results. And get yourself a thermometer.
About having too much produce for just you to eat, there are a lot of vegetables that dogs can eat, and even good for them. They can eat tomatoes, but need to be ripe, and no stems or leaves at all. A little bit at first to see if their digestion likes them. Do a search online for other vegetables they can eat. And you can put tomatoes in the fridge to preserve them a bit longer, but they are best tasting if never put into a fridge.
We can them, and have them for the rest of the winter to make fresh sauce for pasta, chicken parmagiana , etc.
@@johntiger5 True. I've done that many times, too. Was just trying to think up easy things Russell could do without going into major kitchen work. Tomatoes don't last long in my home. I eat them daily. But I miss the home grown. Store bought just doesn't do it right. No where for me to grow them now.
What other veggies can they eat? I can't imagine they're going to like veggies very much.

Foods NOT to give to dogs: XYLITOL!!!! It is toxic to dogs!
Also no wild mushrooms. Those can be dangerous.
Also don’t give any kind of onion, leek, or garlic to dogs. I don’t think it will kill them, but can wreak havoc on their digestion. Though I didn’t know that years ago, and I think our dogs and cats chose to eat some of those. I don’t recall them getting sick. But the cats weren’t wild about onions or garlic. Some of our dogs were.
Foods that may cause digestive troubles. (Though why are some of these found in commercial dog food?):
*Broccoli
*Peas
Cauliflower
Cabbage
Brussel sprouts.
Foods that can be found in commercial dog food:
*Broccoli
*Peas
Sweet potatoes and potatoes
Carrots
Green beans
Beets
Corn
Kale
Spinach
Soy beans
My dogs seemed to like raw and cooked carrots, cooked peas, cooked corn (my cats loved gnawing on cooked corn on cob).
(I googled and it says not to give more than 10% of veggies per meal.)
Do remove stems and leaves and chop the large veg to bite size pieces. I sometimes simmered them and added a little butter, or gave them a bit of what I cooked in a soup or stew.
Cats are supposed to fear cucumbers, but one of my cats loved them. So much, that when I put slices of cold cukes on my eyelids (the old-fashioned eye refresher), my silly cat would jump up onto the bed, start licking them (scary! especially if I dozed off! sharp teeth, sharp claws!), or would knock them off and cart them away to nibble in private. Apparently she was missing something in her canned and dry cat food? Or maybe because cukes are full of water, and when chilled, especially during hot weather, they smelled tantalizing?
Dogs like fruits:
bananas, apples, blueberries, mangoes, pineapple, oranges, and watermelon.
They also can eat tomatoes.
Avoid avocados and grapes. No clue why. They seem harmless to me.
For any foods not listed here, but are growing in your garden, you should google to see if they are ok for the dogs. Mainly as a treat.
The pots that you grew the corn in are way too small. Next year I would get something way larger
Agreed.

My suggestion is upgrade you're entire life. Every aspect of you life need to be revisited and upgraded to allow you to have and live a more deceit life. I would start by clearing a real pathway between your cabin and civilization. Spend time and learn how to grow vegetables and become more self-efficient in this area. Lastely, I suggest you spend more time on your overall health because living off-grid can have bad consequences.
Actually just curious, what aspects of your life need to be upgraded?
Damed if I went back to that ATV dealer.

Wow, how far do you have to walk from truck to cabin ?
It's about 50 minutes to walk
Did you ever but one of noise makes at beaver dam after you torn it down?
no but I will John.
Just buy a new one. You've spent almost price of new one on repairs that never are fixed.
The common problem for any vehicle. When are the cost of repairs worth buying something new?
Do yourself a giant favor. Get a kawasaki, suzuki, honda or yamaha. Incredibly reliable. Never need to waste time at the dealer. Just oil and filter yearly
Which do you own?
@@RaspberryRockOffGridCabin I own a 2003 kawasaki kvf650 and a 1986 honda fourtrax 200
Your ATV needs are a lot different than mine. I would revisit what you can do to improve your trail. A dumping side by side could bring in crushed rock to build firm roads and dams. That's not much help if it is against regulations. Around here they build shallow rock dams that allow ATV crossings without cutting down timber for a corduroy road forever. We have more rock than timber.
Can Am provides performance at the cost of reliability. You are here. I have a simpler Honda foreman that is not for two. 12 years and only shift motor overhaul makes me happy for joy riding and some snow plowing. Maybe a Cadillac SxS and find a workhorse for daily needs.
My 'regulations' are my neighbour, who's property most of my trail is on. He wants me to keep it as natural as possible, and I don't blame him.
Tie up those tomato branches to get them off the ground
I'm having a hard time just keeping the whole plant upright. They keep falling over.
I think you and City Girl will be happier with a side by side , but you would have to get rid of fallen trees
You're right, RV.
Another thing to consider is that you would have to upgrade to a larger trailer to haul a Side by side, also the water crossing you have may be to deep
