The biggest advantage to China in all of these trade wars and trade restriction from US and EU is - the west self-entitlement, reluctancy to change, not wanting to humble down and do the basics, and overall in denial of the changing world order from west to the east and global south. China has a authoritarian government but their policies are flexible especially in economics, whereas the west has liberal governments but very rigid economic policy. China is more capitalist in many ways than the west. Very interesting contrast!
the world is no longer G7 centric. the developing world is the alternative market for China product when it losing the western market. American can impose high tariff on chinese products but then the chinese will sell to developing world instead. not end of the world. but western consumers should prepare for the high inflation.
Not counting China, the Developed world is still a much larger consumer market than the developing world, it isn't even close. It would be a big problem in the immediate term especially because domestic consumption is increasing at a slower pace than production in China and it has already saturated international markets with many products. You simply can't follow the export led growth model to fully developed status when you have 1.4 billion people like smaller places (Korea, Taiwan) can.

Dude, VW is not selling EVs because they are too expensive for what they actually are, not because there's no demand for EVs. I would be happy to pay VW 45k for an ID.4 instead of a Model Y but I just can't find it... because the same specs are 60K on the ID.4. Not even to talk about the ID.7 that goes up to 70k... VW is clearly doing something wrong in production efficiency... no wonder when you look at the amount of models, engines and gearboxes combinations that you can do...that's super inefficient. German manufacturers forgot to build cars for the ordinary people... you can sell only a limited number of Taycans and Q6 and those people will not change them every year... Car manufacturers are companies, which have managers...nothing to do with a country...

If car manufacturers had listened to the consumer like VW did when they first introduced the VW Beetle they would not have been in trouble. People are tired of expensive cars that are way to britle, complicated and hard to repair. Why are cars software locked? Why do we need speciality tools? Why do we need external diagnostic software when a new car already has the electronics to have this included in the vehicle? German carmakers is in a tough position, they can't just shift factory from one country to another without years of planning and execution, and US policy could be totally different in 4 years.
Recently I was inside a Tuekish Togg brand (I believe) Electric SUV and the interior quality and electronics and the ride quality was incredible !! My Audi etron SUV felt like a budget volkswagen interior when I stepped back into it. Togg was 57000 USD in Turkiye and Audi E-tron Q8 retails for 74400 USD in the US. Think of not having the luxury tax in Turkey and hypotheticall shipping cost of 1000USD that Turkish SUV can hit the shores here for 35000-40000 USD's. Let me tell you if that car came here with a good marketing investment it would smoke any American made SUV short of Tesla Model X, Cadillac LyriQ and Lucid Gravity all of which are way more expensive. Range and speed and torque was easily comparable... I feel like except for BMW and maybe a little bit less with Mercedes the interior quality and electronics are not up to par in VW group. Especially with elecric cars since there is no "character" in the drivetrain and parts are less producing a higher interior quality and high tech vehicle should be the PRIORITIES...

You assume something about my statement that is untrue. Fact is, for example, that the Chinese government massively subsidies the EV market while Germany hinders it's through their climate regulations. Chinese EVs are only so competitive because the government massively funds them, German cars became uncompetitive because the government massively regulated them. The last part is arguable in its effect, but it is still very relevant in practice.

I would be happy to pay VW 45k for an ID.4 instead of a Model Y but I just can't find it... because the same specs are 60K on the ID.4. Not even to talk about the ID.7 that goes up to 70k... VW is clearly doing something wrong in production efficiency... no wonder when you look at the amount of models, engines and gearboxes combinations that you can do...that's super inefficient.
German manufacturers forgot to build cars for the ordinary people... you can sell only a limited number of Taycans and Q6 and those people will not change them every year... It's useless to sell me a 100k A6-etron when I want to buy a 30k updated e-golf... that's why people buy MG4. Please let the engineers build the cars, not the accountants or MBAs and they will start selling again.

German auto makers need to make better cars. Here in the US most people say German cars non reliable, and maintenance price is too high, and always have problems few yrs after purchase. No wonder why big consumers choose Japanese or domestic cars. No one wants to spend over 80k for cars have issues

Does the EU produce more cars than it sells in the EU? I'm not sure it does. If you want to have a car industry in 10 years time then you need to keep Chinese cars out completely and only buy European cars. Hard luck for manufacturers who invested in China but business is risky and sometimes you lose. The UK used to have a large car industry but it played the free-trade game and lost nearly all of it.

ICE is on the way out. The problem is that automakers didn't want to or couldn't produce affordable electric products. Automakers that are putting more money into developing ICE will go out of business that much faster.

Tariffs would slow the transition to EVs down and make new EVs even more expensive... If car manufacturers had listened to the consumer like VW did when they first introduced the VW Beetle they would not have been in trouble. People are tired of expensive cars that are way to britle, complicated and hard to repair. Why are cars software locked? Why do we need speciality tools? Why do we need external diagnostic software when a new car already has the electronics to have this included in the vehicle?
The greed of Western car manufacturers are just ridiculous and I hope the Chinese can give them a valuable lesson and make cars affordable and repairable again.
German carmakers is in a tough position, they can't just shift factory from one country to another without years of planning and execution, and US policy could be totally different in 4 years.

Recently I was inside a Tuekish Togg brand (I believe) Electric SUV and the interior quality and electronics and the ride quality was incredible !! My Audi etron SUV felt like a budget volkswagen interior when I stepped back into it. Togg was 57000 USD in Turkiye and Audi E-tron Q8 retails for 74400 USD in the US. Think of not having the luxury tax in Turkey and hypotheticall shipping cost of 1000USD that Turkish SUV can hit the shores here for 35000-40000 USD's.
Let me tell you if that car came here with a good marketing investment it would smoke any American made SUV short of Tesla Model X, Cadillac LyriQ and Lucid Gravity all of which are way more expensive.
Range and speed and torque was easily comparable... I feel like except for BMW and maybe a little bit less with Mercedes the interior quality and electronics are not up to par in VW group. Especially with elecric cars since there is no "character" in the drivetrain and parts are less producing a higher interior quality and high tech vehicle should be the PRIORITIES...

To understand the car market fragmentation nowadays ,in my country 80% of new car sold were brought by companies that are less price sensitive compared to the average joe.

Basically once they got to experience blue jeans and McDonalds folks would throw down there authoritarians and adopt western ideals including mutual free trade. The tariffs shouldn't matter to the EU car companies. The US car companies are still sell low quality vehicles at a exorbitant rate and have been because of the greed. Now its catching up to them. EU car companies can reduce the profit margins a bit to cover for the tarrifs. Now I know that will never happen, they will just cry how they are not making tons and tons of money.
