Your expert who refers to the Smart from Mercedes from China forgot that Mercedes sold Smart some 10(+/-)years ago is no expert. Our EU automotive industry has "Only" 3 major obsticals: 1) Battery availability at competitive prices (under €50/kWh and sinking). Yes a fundamental change in the automotive industry is happening and this is just the beginning.😀

The true fabric of European Union means exactly that, Union at all regards, however countries single hand have made their policies forward not truly tackling to create a competitive European Union and make all countries competitive so all can compete in innovation and have true consumption power. The reality is the opposite and fundamental changes are here, at the door step.
tarifs are not imposed on all chinese cars. they're only imposed on manufacturers who received significant or excessive financial help from their government, which is against market fairness. that's why brands are affected differently : 17,4 % for BYD, 19,9 % for Geely & 37,6 % for SAIC. I'm stunned that the "specialists" don't mention that. I wont; call that disinformation, but at least misinformation. you should not reinvite these people, they're not rigorous enough.
The EU should also focus on building infrastructure that will 'fix' the pain point of owning an electric car, once there are enough charging point like filling stations, the market would have an adjusted demand, making the switch to electric more plausible. Then what's left is sorting the high prices - taxes on new sales/ all sales - , and innovation will bring down charging speeds somehow too. Simply put it, China is not the only problem, people are just buying them cause they are cheaper, but you are ignoring people who aren't even buying those Chinese cars because of all the inconveniences around EVs, make the environment (market) ready for EVs.
Why isn't anyone listening? Nobody in their right mind would buy an ev in Europe. It's not just that the cars are expensive, it's the public charging network, which is a total mess. Charging stations are almost always inconveniently located, out in the open weather, poorly lit, and wait times to access a charger can be longer than your own charging time. Then there are the issues of commonly unserviceable chargers, multitudinous apps, and non-common RFID cards. It's a complete and absolute shambles - and public charging is becoming really expensive. As I said at the start, why would anyone in their right mind buy an ev in Europe? Oh, and forget about Nordic countries, they paid for their ev revolution by selling hydocarbons.
Seriously guys, this interview is more on the humorous take. Chinese cars are not competitive in the EU market. They'd bulldozer the entire sector if allowed to do so. The concerns which these specialists put in the future are already in the past. Data is available all over, European manufacturers are having the highest historical losses across the fiscal year. There are struggles to even sell plants that already are halted, for there is no interest.
Remove the pollution enforcing BS that makes car manufacturing almost impossible. You've made them more unreliable and complex that in term hurts the environment. Focus on industrialization and carbon capturing methods to offset.
EU: your internal combustion engine is bad, you need to go electric. Me eyeballing BYD.. EU: oh no, not that electric car Me: But that’s what I might be able to afford. EU: OK, we’ll put tariffs on it so it cost the same as the one you can’t afford. Now we’ll charge you out of your ICE car to subsidize those who can afford either of them.
EVs have only just arrived on the market. They haven't even reached the halfway point of the marathon. To be more precise, they are still running in the main stands. The technology is not yet mature, and the cheap Chinese EVs currently on sale will likely fill up scrap yards in a decade. I don't think current batteries will continue to be used, but they should not be popularized without establishing a battery recycling system.

Your expert who refers to the Smart from Mercedes from China forgot that Mercedes sold Smart some 10(+/-)years ago is no expert. Our EU automotive industry has "Only" 3 major obsticals:
1) Battery availability at competitive prices (under €50/kWh and sinking). The lack of progress of NothVolt and others to be competitive to imported Chinese batteries is concerning.
2) Computer controlled car architecture designed cars: EU carmakers are short off the skills/management knowhow to run software projects.
3) With an EV care end of line cost of -20% car makers can only survive by increasing their added value: in house drive motor manufacture, sold their folded body parts, make their seats etc. and finally sell their cars to the client.
Yes a fundamental change in the automotive industry is happening and this is just the beginning.😀
Europe needs to start by subsidizing mining explorations in Europe. Afterwards training for people, subsidizing R&D, build battery factories, have an own software divisions and make energy cheap with overbuilding renewable capacities with storage!
@@tibsyy895 they're subsidising all right, in war effort in Gaza and Ukraine. Like a dog follow his Uncle Sam master.
Wake up European, haven't 2 world war happen in your continent. For what? more land, richest from the conquered territories. U have a messed up leardership from time to time, it's like a curse
Great video explaining industry problems
No more cheap gas from Russia the US gas is too much expensive
Go back to fair trade lol. Chin does not play fair. That is the whole point of tarrifs.
The thing is, Europe has been subsiding its car production for decades. Everything from tax breaks, "incentives" to build plants, grants and loans, weaker legislation and regulation etc You would need to define what the threshold is for "unfair subsidies"? The Chinese are simply willing to put more money into the game, and Europe has realised it can't handle the stakes and is throwing it's dummy out.
In a single word, the answer is 'VERY'
Incisive conversation here, the EU government really seems delusional and naive on this subject and is actually damaging European interests.
The ship has already sailed on Chinese advancement in this area and cooperation is the only option left open now.
Nearly everyone in Europe do not buy EVs because they cost a fortune to buy and the depreciation is huge as well as to insure one also costs a fortune as well as the complexity of the electrics means that servicing and repair costs are also very high.
Then there is the charging......more problems....
They need to think seriously about pricing, they have good engineering skills. Compete with china. Not just put tariffs on them
i hear some of these jazzy Chinese Ev.. have cool interiors and some come w/ cool intergraded kareokee system
Chinese EV is more than just car. It embodies entertainment, communication, fun and comfort in hot summer and in winter. A joy to drive it. It also provides massage to tired body. Musk said that Chinese EV is a high tech product. with AI and IoT
@@michaelloong964 And? I just want to drive from A to B. For a reasonable price and without gimmicks that will probably break soon.
@@stefan2796 there are basic models too but if you are paying 25k you might as well get all the freebies.
4:50 - mr expert you are lying.
Watch renolution where mr Ceo - Reno is proudly saying that ev are more profitable
In fact, when discount the batterty, EV production cost and research cost is at least 30% cheaper than combustion engine car.
Europe car maker simply avoid mentioned the compexity of ICE car parts and assembly. In addition , those car maker also take a page of Kodak textbook, afraid of lower prize EV cannibalize their ICE car that make from the old car parts like complicated engine and transmission system .
Currently, China is still experimenting EV battery replacement business model. When China sort out the battery charging logistics, car maker and petrol logistics around the world would face another catchup.
The best way to change old vehicles into electric vehicles
Unbelievable critics from Bochum, Germany. Simple fact is problems are ours Europeans and profits are single handed country.
How will they fund war in Ukraine? Genocide in gaza or theft in africa if they do that?
Europe is in a Union but deeply divided
china is also divided, but the tyrant regime just puts everyone in jail. Or in re-education facilities.
EU wants diesel and petrol cars forever since that is all we can do. Green future is a myth.
They don't have any clue. If it is an electric car double mass, then my Honda Jazz then is 2x more expensive, and the product is not green at all.
EU: oh no, not that electric car
Me: But that’s what I might be able to afford.
EU: OK, we’ll put tariffs on it so it cost the same as the one you can’t afford. Now we’ll charge you out of your ICE car to subsidize those who can afford either of them.
The Eu is a joke -- they want to tax cheap Chinese EVs but can't produce their own properly.
Ask Musk why he builds a gigafactory to build his EV in China and not in India where the labor costs are much cheaper than China.
If you ever work with Indian then you will know that Indian are hard to obey rules like how Chinese did.
Reforms and depoliticize
it's all due to china refusing to just be tshirt maker , a labor only productive force .. it's high tech industrial capability is incredible
maybe you'll start seeing alliances similar to Japanese car makers.
Wait so the US is doing so much better they are protecting the market wit tarrives to force things to be build in the us. The EU is not doing it and they are suffering, now the EU want to protect the maket and that would be bad. Ow yea the ones that are saying it is bad are the one o so sad we just move our company out of the EU but we want to keep de buisness as usual... that is so bad for the full economy.
so someone works in the EU saves money to buy a car. lets say the car costs 30k that 30k is than used to build out bussinis in a different continet outside of the eu it is not being used in the eu so it is a leaking economy ... in a financial sens
Than job wise the people that lose jobs they had a income that is taxed so that brings money in. Now they lose the job the goverments have to use other tax money to assist the people that are jobless. so again a way that money starts leaking away ...
The big company's will say well give them less money than they will try to find work more but the EU is finaly starting to say no what about you give them work and you don't have to pay more tarrives. Company's move factory's for a 3% increse for the shareholders they don't care about the economy that time is long gone. Company's rather take a short win than a long term victory.
How about talking about reliably???
Now the europeans went protectionism. What happened to the free market??? If China can manufacturer super reliable cars i want that. Not the planned Obsolescence parts we use for european cars and american cars.

Whats amazing is VW was a hit with Hit. ler back in 1940s Germany.
