Rudy the fact that Matt was able even find blank VHS Tapes is a testiment to your families determination to succeed. Your determination to find a player for a forgotten technology proves it. I bet Janelle is so sad to have missed all of that fun mud😂 Rudy you are so like your father, glass is always half full. You always manage to keep a smile on your face, no matter what happens.
SO fun watching all the invites figure out how to find a VCR let alone figuring out how to work the VHS tape when it gets stuck. What an ordeal just to get to a VCR...thanks for making this a fun video.
Awesome! All the troubles you go to watch a VHS tape... Reminds me of growing up in the 80s!!! On another note, I was noticing that with your back corner repaired, now you're missing half of the name; I was thinking: You could paint the whole panel around that back window in white and redo the names on both sides. That way you get rid of the blue part, get your rig's name back on it, and get both sides looking the same again. Just a suggestion. 🤙
Rudy, I am proud of you for thinking ahead with tools. Rudy, you need to shovel the snow to clean your windows. Wow, Rudy Janille will have her work cut out for her getting that clean.
yikes ! search for ROGER ALAN WADE PUT Another Log on the Fire ( when i just searched the song title , i got a horribly barely audible TV show recording )
Ok, I just have to say that I'm impressed by the little Ranger going where the Rudy was slipping and slipping 😳 😀 🤣. Hello from the high desert of Phelan in the Mohave desert of California. Lenny
Josh is Lizzy's brother, right? You need some removable fenders like your Dad has for the banana or is it the Morrvair? Fun video. Snow works great at removing mud from windshield.
PS for the mud and our wipers, we use 5 gallon water jugs and our little water pump and we pipe that up to our windshield wiper so we have endless supply of water for cleaning our windshield
Your buddy did a great job replacing that chunk of fender. He either was funning about not having experience, or he remembered what he had seen before.
It seems a bit diabolical that the MORR team put the instructions on a VHS. Look at what Rudy is going through to find a player. Rory and team searched all over Moab for one. Insane but also a fun thing to watch.
Great video guys ! Being from Michigan, as long as you have snow you can wash your windows ....right .? Well as long as you do it before it freezes or dries .lol keep up the fun and good times .🍻🍻🍻
I loved the video!! It was too funny!! Paul definitely knew what he was talking about. You might want to either add some extensions to your flares like your dad has or carry a couple of 2 gl. spray bottles that has 1 filled with baby oil & 1 filled with water/rainx. I know dirt track racers spray their cars down with baby oil when the track is real muddy & it makes it a lot harder for the mud to stick. Then use the water/rainx on the glass for better visibility. Spray the undercarriage heavy with the baby oil. Thanks for the great content!! BTW, how are you enjoying the supercharger? I'd love to see how it increased the hp!! Maybe you could put it on a dyno & run it with & without the belt to see the difference!
I miss the simpler times! How can you not love a video with vcr's and a built jeep and a Ranger! Lol. Ps, I daily to work a 93 ranger with 507,000+ miles and still running the original engine transmission and rear end! 💯💪🇺🇲
Lol your dad matt is a total crack up with the vcr tapes and rudy you are a crackup love your vidios are great love watchin your exsperiances but you need wipers lol😂
My brother took his Jeep and I took my Trooper into a bush road a few miles. We found water holes, mud and a lot of rough road. His tires stick out past the fenders a bit and when we got out of there, he even had mud on his roof. The Trooper was nice and clean. Big difference. Thanks for the video.
Great job getting to the cabin to watch the tape. Everyone I've seen so far has had one heck of a time finding a VCR that actually WORKS!! LOL!! Good luck getting all that mud off of the Rudicon!! 🤣
Hi Rudy I really love your show I will always praying 🙏 for you and your wife and your family and friends ok please be careful out there ok I wach all of your new and old show ok love Lorilee xoxoxoxox
Yep, frozen VCR's don't load tapes very well. You need to warm them up and run the cleaning tape in them a few time to get everything moving again before attempting to load a tape you actually need to watch. BTW: You could have just mailed the tape to fellow RUclipsr like Ted Lear of Pop's Digital World and he would have put it on any media of your choosing. It likely would have cost less than just the car washes alone never mind the fuel and pizza. For kicks you could put your response on a 5 1/4 inch floppy disk or have perhaps see if Pop can put it on a Super8 Sound Movie or some other obscure and long obsolete media perhaps even a old style 12 inch Laser Disk or 2 inch wide real to real video tape. Best!
VCR (Video Cassette Recorder) is the machine, and VHS (Video Home System) is the format. You had it correct, it was a VHS tape. The other type of VCR was the Beta.
Remove the big amounts of mud, use snow to clean up the bulk of your mess, then washer fluid and the wipers should handle the rest. Coming from a Canadian eh. Cheers 🍻
A VCR is a Video Cassette Recorder, VHS is the Video Home System format of the video cassette as opposed to the commercial video tape systems. There was also a Betamax format that Sony developed to provide an improved picture and sound. VHS was the first and was cheaper so it was more widely adopted. The television you used to watch the video probably had a VCP, Video Cassette Player that only played videos and didn't record video. Many photo studios used to transfer video tapes to DVD so they might still have a functioning VHS player. The rubber drive belts had a short life and the complicated mechanism used to thread the tape around the play head often resulted in the machine eating tapes.
I have a whole assortment of those rubber drive belts. I bought them just to get one for an old 8 track player. And yes I still have 8 track tapes and lots of vhs tapes. I have 4 of the 8 tracks that have never even been opened. Back in 76 I had 64 8 track tapes stolen along with the van they were in at the Mardi Gras. Went there in luxury and came home on a damn Greyhound. What a miserable trip home. It took twice as long with all the stops it made.
Josh and family have an awesome place..if you’ve gotta mess with watching 90 seconds of a vhs recording you might as well do it in a cool off grid cabin!

I think it's HILARIOUS that so many people have had to go on "scavenger hunts" or fix/dust off old VCR's just to watch you dad's VHS Off Road Games invites! (Good show, Matt!) 😅
Just for completeness .... VCR is short for VideoCassetteRecorder ... VHS (VideoHomeSystem), Video2000 and Betamax were 3 VCR-Tape-Systems competing for the consumermarket (when I was young) ... a competition which VHS won in the end ... before it was obsoleted by DVDs.
In addition to the comments about cleaning heads the rubber drive wheel and sometimes the internal belts need to be cleaned. The one you can see when holding the door open is easy with a q-tip and alcohol, sometimes followed by “belt dressing” which may be hard to find these days. It cannot be sticky in any way though. The internal belt or sometimes drive wheel is more likely to need a rubber conditioner (belt dressing) . The symptom is slipping or bad tape jamming, or erratic playback speeds. As you say, old tech slowly dying.
If your Dad made the tapes wouldnt it have been safe to assume he had a VCR (Video Cassette Recorder) you could used? Maybe. Lol The clean snow on the ground would have been a great source to clean your windshield for the drive home.
When wiper fluid/wiper don't work so well, learn to put on gloves and use snow. It melts on the warmer windshield, and can be used like a scrubber when you pack it into a snowball.
I guess Matt using the VHS is a part of the adventure. Finding one that still works from the lack of use takes a while for most except the older generation. I have a combo VCR and compact disc recorder so I can transfer the older videos and edit out what I don't want. The amount of mud on the Rudicon compared to the Ranger looks like you had been on a totally different trail. You should have paid for his truck wash though for his efforts, gas and time.
There’s still a few movies I watch on vhs along with a bear hunt my grandpa and uncle filmed and a family elk hunting trip along with a few other things they filmed, so nostalgic going back to the vcr
The reason that working VCRs are hard to find is due to a single part that they all have in their drivetrain. They have a clutch that allows only so much torque pass. The rubber in those dry out and the surface friction changes. The result is exactly what you experienced. The VCR will eat the tape with a failed clutch.
