This show & Ham & YOURS, is like(with ALL DO RESPECT) the modern day PBS teaching/cooking shows, from days of past. ABSOLUTE BEST NYT youtube series. Thank you, Sohla & all that help make the show!
I need so many more of these videos, for every cooking ingredient possible - I love how this series covers the buying of the food as well as the preparation and cooking. Also - more Sohla everywhere please!
One of the best steaks I ever had was a very cheap piece of skirt steak that had been pounded and marinated in jack daniels, then cooked over live coals. It's all in the method! I have been cooking steaks by the timer method for years, but I didn't realize I was using the wrong pan! I never could do a pan sauce and I couldn't figure out why! I always use my 12" cast iron, but I should switch to a 10"! I don't have a 10" cast iron fry pan, but I imagine a 10" dutch oven would work though it might be harder to manuever in. Awesome video. Awesome series. I'm 54 years old and have been cooking weeknight meals for my family for over 20 years and I've learned so MUCH from this channel.
Love Sohla’s versatility, making Suya straight from Nigeria!!!! 🇳🇬 could I love Sohla more!!!! Well done darling!!! Nothing like tozo suya….marbled beef on steriodsy
I’m way beyond a 101 level of cooking but who cares? It’s Sohla! And she’s always going to have a tip or trick I haven’t seen before. Gotta say I am 100% behind her sandwich making art statement. Edge to edge and ratios are key! Thanks Sohla for bringing us all your delightful enthusiasm and incredible skill made simple. ❤
So really happy to see sohla again. She breaks cooking down to help you get the best out of what you are cooking. Reminds me so must of braai's in south africa.
Sohla is just the best; love all her videos, tips and technique! Please don't say this is her last video...one on cooking potatoes or making salads could be fun!
I am adding this taco salad to my dinner rotation!!!!! Also, I love the dedication to getting that classic Taco Bell flavor, down to the unripe tomatoes 😂
I´ve just found your videos ! what a great surprise!!! You know how to pass information in a simple way , never boring, super easy to watch without fast foward it. Great presenter, You´ve just got a new fan from Brazil!!! Hope to watch more videos like this one. Thanks Sohla!!!😘
I would love a Sohla guide to alt-proteins and mains. Where do I get halloumi? How do I keep tofu from sticking? What even is tempeh and how do I get over the weird look it has? Aside from mapo tofu, how do you combine alt proteins and animal products?
I used to watch Sohla on her solo channel until she stopped doing it. I’m thrilled to find her again here! You keep her at the helm and I’ll keep tuning in! 😎👍🏼
"What's the secret to brown? DRY!" That's something I think a lot of home cooks can be discouraged by when they want a nice crusty outside and a juicy interior. Loved this series!
I'd love an episode on cacio e pepe, or pan sauces in general! it's the one thing I consistently mess up. I nailed a hollandaise first try, but a nice butter parmesan pasta situation? Clump city, it is not cute
I haven’t thought about taco salad since I was a kid and this was such a good reminder! Recipe was killer - I just added some red pepper flakes to the meat and finished salad with lime and a dollop of Greek yogurt.
The way you carry yourself just by talking sohla!! 🔥🔥 missing ham but always a pleasure to watch either of you, thanks for motivating me to be an even better husband
I really enjoy the Cooking 101 series, maybe one episode could be about shopping for food and having some nice basic things that could improve the creative process of cooking. Thanks Sohla. (besides that going to cook the vidoes with my mom to improve our cooking skills!)
Please do 101s with Sohla for cakes/cookies/brownies, pancakes/French toast/waffles/bacon, cooking with grains other than rice (eg bulgur, farro, quinoa), soups!, sauces
Absolutely loved this video :) while you recommend cold prep for leftover steak, I think something that only slightly heats it does it well. I personally am a fan of scrambled eggs with steak. If there’s a particularly large fat cap I’ll usually already have it set aside to help grease the pan along with the butter or oil, then fry the eggs with my typical seasoning sorts. Once it’s just shy of a medium scramble (not completely soup, but the curds are kind of undecided on what form they want to make just yet) add in some cubed leftover steak, or sometimes I’ll cut it into fine slivers if I want to spread it further. Cook for like 30 seconds to a minute until the steak is just warmed through and the curds of the egg are hitting that medium mark, then pull from the heat. Medium rare steak still remains medium rare, but also still imparts all that steaky goodness to the eggs, especially if I had a fat cap to start it out with
Agree on the steak thing. Steaks with a lot of fat are better cooked to medium for fast cooking methods. If I'm doing it sous vide, med-rare is best IMO.
I have made two delicious steaks using this video--thank you so much Sohla! (I definitely have to have it on the cast iron for longer than you do, for some reason, but I got a crust this time! :D)
Steak reheat tip: use a microwave on lower power over longer (10min) to prevent it from drying out and mummifying; if you know you’re gonna have leftovers, buy thick slab steaks such that your reheated product retains excellent texture even after a little microwave sauna the next day
29:41 (Everything she said plus consider this) Warm left over steak (and fat) at 150f for 20 min. Gentle. Great for sandwiches. Just figured this out, how to bring it back, but not cook it more.
Steaks at your butcher are $32.59/lb !!! Can you show us how to use the widely available cuts and grinds from big box stores… meats from Costco would be a start. Please….
I like to add some caramelized onions right into my ground beef when I'm making burgers. Just like that first recipe, it helps keep them moist even while you get a good sear on them and cook it through. I don't like a pink burger.
i would watch a trillion more of these vids as long as they all have sohla in them
I just don’t see the appeal, tried when she was at Conde Nast. Just not compelling for me.
Saaaammmmeee! She’s so charming
I agree. She’s my favorite
ya she nice
@@RUclips_can_ESADShe has a PR team that writes glowing things about her to try hide the fact she is horrible and abusive to staff off camera
Happiness is opening the RUclips app and finding a new Sohla Cooking 101 video.
Sadness is finding out it’s the last one.😢
I know! Do more cooking 101 videos Sohla, we love them!
Way too true.. Sohla and these 101 videos have been so critical to upping my knowledge/cooking game
@@mattk.2416 I also hope we can see more Sohla videos.
Whhhhut? 😢 Ugh, just heard it, and it hurts. 🥺😭
What?!
Last episode??? Nooooooooooooo. Sohla is the best teacher ever!!!!!!
LOVED this series! Maybe a 101 for each season (summer 101, fall 101…) and Sunday meal prep for work lunches/weeknight dinns? Thanks, Sohla + NYT!
This show & Ham & YOURS, is like(with ALL DO RESPECT) the modern day PBS teaching/cooking shows, from days of past. ABSOLUTE BEST NYT youtube series. Thank you, Sohla & all that help make the show!
Sohla is an excellent teacher. She never talks over my head and never is boring.
I agree, I wouldn't watch the whole video if it was anyone else. She's real, and super easy to follow.❤
I need so many more of these videos, for every cooking ingredient possible - I love how this series covers the buying of the food as well as the preparation and cooking. Also - more Sohla everywhere please!
last episode? but there are so much to explore still😆
Seriously!
Modern use of (mother) sauces, pork, milk, chickpeas, potatoes.
Oh no! The last episode?! 😭😩 I was really enjoying this series. I know she has to go and be a mommy though so it’s okay ❤
Will be looking forward to Cooking 201! And a foto of baby Ham.
Cheers 🍷
Upstate NY

Can we have a second season of Cooking 101 with Sohla?
I’m way beyond a 101 level of cooking but who cares? It’s Sohla! And she’s always going to have a tip or trick I haven’t seen before. Gotta say I am 100% behind her sandwich making art statement. Since I discovered this amazing woman and the real world knowledge and skills she brings… she has become my #1 go to..
Thank you Sohla!! 👍🙏😎
Please make more of these!!! SO useful to my cooking journey. Love her personality and explains the steps easy
Please please continue this series with Sohla!! This can not be the last episode, there's too much left to learn 😢
Please make so many more of these. Sohla is such a good teacher. Let this be the end of season 1 but not the whole series!
Hey Sohla, i hope that there is a second season. Like, seriously, please, dont break our hearts.
Loved this series - so wish it would continue. I learn so much from Sohla and all her recipes are delicious. Anything Sohla does I am there for!
I can't believe you cooked Suya.
It is an absolute delicious Nigerian 🇳🇬🇳🇬🇳🇬 dish
This series was fantastic. I sent it to so many friends to learn some tricks. I love it.
I am adding this taco salad to my dinner rotation!!!!! Also, I love the dedication to getting that classic Taco Bell flavor, down to the unripe tomatoes 😂

Mom's Taco Salad: chopped iceberg, Ortega Taco Meat, crushed Nacho Doritos, Kraft Catalina dressing, shredded cheddar, diced onions. Now I'm craving it, to the grocery store.
Childhood community potlucks, that one always turned up 😁
I used to watch Sohla on her solo channel until she stopped doing it. I’m thrilled to find her again here! You keep her at the helm and I’ll keep tuning in! 😎👍🏼

Dry the outside *surface,* with a paper towel.

Sohla quickly becoming one of my favorites.
Very excellent teacher😊
Another awesome episode with Sohla ❤ Love all your tips and expertise and your humor ❤

these have become my most favorite YT videos! More pretty pls!! Sohla is such a wonderful teacher who seems very authentic and super fun 🤍
Thank you for the video. Also enjoyed your Master Class. So accessible for people with normal kitchen.
I love the way she says "situation "❤
I'd love an episode on cacio e pepe, or pan sauces in general! it's the one thing I consistently mess up. I nailed a hollandaise first try, but a nice butter parmesan pasta situation? Clump city, it is not cute
Sauces with Sohla is a genius idea and I would watch every episode.
Love, love, loved this series with Sohla!!! I mean, even that lemon cheek tip was amazing! Hoping for more with Sohla!!
I haven’t thought about taco salad since I was a kid and this was such a good reminder! Recipe was killer - I just added some red pepper flakes to the meat and finished salad with lime and a dollop of Greek yogurt.

Sohla is such a national treasure ❤
Omg new Sohla content!! Just got Start Here a month back and I've been enjoying that but videos are always the best!
Such an excellent cook and teacher! (Congrats on the new family member!)
I really enjoy the Cooking 101 series, maybe one episode could be about shopping for food and having some nice basic things that could improve the creative process of cooking. Thanks Sohla. (besides that going to cook the vidoes with my mom to improve our cooking skills!)
I learned so much with this series! GIVE US MORE! RENEW HER!!!
Souls is amazing. I could watch these endlessly.
Great to see more Sohla content.
Also stoked to see a KC strip.
Wonderful series and I’d watch anything with Sohla in it, so fun! Topic idea, which spices go well together and/or creating your own spice blends. ❤
Sohla!! I am now going to the store, so I can make the taco salad for lunch. THANK YOU!! :)
Please do 101s with Sohla for cakes/cookies/brownies, pancakes/French toast/waffles/bacon, cooking with grains other than rice (eg bulgur, farro, quinoa), soups!, sauces
Please make more. This has been an amazing series.

Flawless. When is Cooking 201?!
Made the taco salad today with (GASP) tofu, black beans, Colby Jack, and regular tortilla strips. Delicious! Take good care, Sohla! 😊
Agree on the steak thing. Steaks with a lot of fat are better cooked to medium for fast cooking methods. If I'm doing it sous vide, med-rare is best IMO.
My mom used to make a version of the taco salad with cool ranch Doritos instead of Fritos. 10/10
congratulations to the team for a wonderful series! looking forward to more 🙂
I really hope they make more of these, there’s so much more they could do!!
When it comes to browning ground beef, I like the Brian Lagerstrom method of doing it under the broiler on a sheet tray
I never cook beef, personal preference, but I watched every second of this video because…Sohla.
Yum! All three had my mouth watering and trying to remember what's in the frig :)
Last episode?! How about pork, basic sauces, potatoes, salads+dressings?
there's an el tapatío restaurant here where i live and it's SO good.
Great tips Sohla, thanks!
LAST EPISODE?! I desperately need one about cheesecake
Yess Sohla! 🎉 Not the last! 😢
I have made two delicious steaks using this video--thank you so much Sohla! (I definitely have to have it on the cast iron for longer than you do, for some reason, but I got a crust this time! :D)
A Sohla video makes me happy. 😊
I love cold steak on a lovely salad. Thanks for all these options!
Vaughan fanning is EVERYTHING❤❤❤
Can we have a series on flat breads? I would love to learn how to make a tortilla, a chapati and a parota properly
"Be brave, be swift."
Thank you Sohla, I will :)
Didn’t think I would watch a beef video and see Suya! 🎉🎉
wtf do you mean by "last episode"......i look forward to this!
Great video! All of it looks so delicious! Thanks for all the great tips!
I love you Sohla!!! Thank you!
Any chance of a pasta sauce or curry 101?
I’d love to be able to just make a dinner with what I have and not strictly follow a recipe
Excellent! Wow - that steak and potatoes!
Steak reheat tip: use a microwave on lower power over longer (10min) to prevent it from drying out and mummifying; if you know you’re gonna have leftovers, buy thick slab steaks such that your reheated product retains excellent texture even after a little microwave sauna the next day
I loved this episode!
We need a double feature 101 with Sohla & Claire Saffitz please!!!!
the tip of getting 80-20 beef always and draining the fat after is great!!
You can tell this was recorded a while ago since she's still pregnant 😄
Hopefully we'll see another series with Sohla, she's such a good teacher ❤
29:41 (Everything she said plus consider this) Warm left over steak (and fat) at 150f for 20 min. Gentle. Great for sandwiches. Just figured this out, how to bring it back, but not cook it more.
Love Sohla!❤
Extremely valuable series
My heart sunk when she said it's the last episode! 😭
So good! Thanks, Sohla.
Steaks at your butcher are $32.59/lb !!!
Can you show us how to use the widely available cuts and grinds from big box stores… meats from Costco would be a start.
Please….
Plssss more episodes!!!
Medium on a fatty steak is absolutely THE MOVE.
I like to add some caramelized onions right into my ground beef when I'm making burgers. Just like that first recipe, it helps keep them moist even while you get a good sear on them and cook it through. I don't like a pink burger.
You inspire me, impressive!❤
Yup ..Sohla ... just brill !!
I'd love to know where to get those spoons that were used for the butter basting!
Sohla El-Waylly!!!!! Love her!!!!!
Sohla, you are a delight to watch!
We need more episodes!!!!!
make more with sohla!!!!!!
