    It is wonderful to finally learn the history behind the photos one has seen and who is who in them! Thank you! During this trip Edward heard OTMA 's Irish accent when speaking English. They attained it from their Irish nanny, Margaretta Eagar. Uncle Bertie was not pleased. Margaretta had already left royal service in 1904, so the blame fell on the children 's English tutor. But it must of been amazing for him to hear them! 😂

    • @carolannemckenzie3849
      @carolannemckenzie3849 3 года назад +10

      That's interesting. I didn't know OTMA spoke English with an Irish accent. Bless their sainted souls.

    • @davidjonathangudlaugson4768
      @davidjonathangudlaugson4768 3 года назад +7

      I would like to see a primary source with respect to OTMA's alleged Irish accent. English was their L2. They didn't grow up in Ireland. They grew up in Russia. Even with an Irish teacher, their first language was Russian.

    • @blessOTMA
      @blessOTMA 3 года назад +8

      @@davidjonathangudlaugson4768 Indeed, but for six years they had an Irish nanny Margaretta Eagar, and naturally emulated her when speaking English. A nanny is more than a teacher. They were with her just about every waking hour, speaking English, since she spoke not a word of Russian. Apparently they also spoke English to their mother. I read about this years ago and that Irish accent annoying King Edward, was the reason their first English tutor, before Gibbs, was sacked.

    • @emcc8598
      @emcc8598 3 года назад +5

      @@blessOTMA Perhaps the ironic thing about this story was that Ms Eagar was a protestant, whose family would originally have been of English extraction and would have identified more as anglo Irish than Irish. She even trained to be a nurse and worked in Belfast - a city which at that time looked more to the British Empire than anywhere else. Do you mean that the children's first tutor also Irish or that he didn't try to correct their accents?

    • @blessOTMA
      @blessOTMA 3 года назад +1

      @@emcc8598 I believe he did not try to change their accent and concentrated on the reading and writing of English. It perhaps wasn't a priority or thought a problem. But became one when the King was not feeling well and the accent annoyed him. It would interesting to see if there were extra Irish "troubles " at that time and he was set off.
      It's fascinating because even if your family had been in Ireland for generations, one can feel English or Scottish if you are of that lineage. But elsewhere in the world, you would be seen as simply Irish. The distinctions are less finely drawn.

    When the narrator said King Edward VII visited his nephew Tsar Nicholas II, my first thought, oh yes, because he's married to Empress Alix, the daughter of Princess Alice, King Edward VII's sister. But then I also realized, King Edward VII married Queen Alexandra, Empress Maria's sister, who's the mother of Tsar Nicholas II... Wow, what a close relationship...

Just a thought here, I find it so sad that having been an abused and underappreciated intellectually as his own childhood had been, Edward VII had neither the empathy nor compassion to recognize those same damage scars in the behavior of his nephew Wilhelm II and neither had George V. So heartbreaking considered in context of how much the relationships of the Tsar, the Kaiser & Kings Edward and George plunged the world into its now so rapidly darkening age.

      The King was not an absolute ruler and had nothing to do with the Romanov decision, that would be the British government. A Constatutional- Monarchy. However, the Tsars mother, sister of Queen Alexandria, and one of her daughters were picked up by a British Battleship. IF only the French and Russian Royal families had adapted over time there would not have been revolutions. GET AN EDUCATION.! Why do you think the British Royal Family is still around today unlike all the monarchies that were and ain't no more?

      The Tsar and Tsarina were related to almost all European royal monarchies. Any one of them could have offered exile. To put the blame all on the UK is unfair. Besides it’s said that the Tsar and his family did not want to leave Russia. No one could have foreseen the tragedy that followed. WWI was the end of the 19th century lifestyle.

King Edward Vll, so regal and hearty wasn't as self conscious as his son King George V. Prince Charles is a Scorpio as was King Edward Vll and both destined to live short reigns and Camilla is descended from Alice Keppel, Edward's lover. Dear Romanov Royal martyrs, thank you so much for the fun and informative videos you’ve have produced. I can see you work very carefully with heart and soul and perceiving us the much needed information on the Tsar and his family. However I want to share a few questions that I want to ask you.
    The first thing of the matter is the videos that you made lately. Tho informative I have to say that the voice over, including this one, sounds very mechanical and not very natural and that puts me a little bit off. I am sure the voice over job is very hard to do. But if you can make it less robotic, I think I and maybe others will enjoy it a bit more. Can you maybe do that? Is that possible?
    The second is question is how do you pronounce OTMAA and especially Anastasia’s name? In quite a few videos you’ve pronounced it differently. I can’t find the video but it was about the children visiting, working, nursing and helping the wounded soldiers in their hospitals. Romanov sisters angels of mercy? (Which was a lovely video with a sweet voice over. Where is it now?)
    And the last but not least question is why did you removed some videos? Are you perhaps to improve or ad on those videos?
    With kind regards, I really hope that you answer me questions.

    • @RomanovRoyalMartyrs
      @RomanovRoyalMartyrs  3 года назад +1

      Dear Charlotte, thank you for your comment here. To answer your questions:
      1) We have not received any complaints about the narration of our videos and we trust that our viewers are satisfied with what we produce. It is the best we can do.
      2) Every English-speaking narrator has his/her own accent and pronunciation which usually differs from the way native Russians' (in our case) correct form. The stress for the names of the Romanov children are as follows (capital letter stressed):
      - Olga
      - tatiAana
      - marIa
      - anastasIa
      - alexEi
      Note: When writing in English, Alexei wrote his name in its English version: Alexis.
      3) Some videos have been removed and re-produced either combined or in new version. None of our channel's content has been removed, but only reused in new versions. The video "Angels of Mercy" will be reposted in a slightly new version on June 9th, with the title "The Romanov Sisters in World War I".
      We hope this answers your questions.

      @@carolannemckenzie3849 She did, at least as personal as can be expected. In her memoir she wished to enlist but was declined, undeterred she met with the local governor whom she had first met when she was exiled with her second husband and was able to get a telegram through that way. Nicholas simply gave an executive order and it's never addressed with him again - it's not uncommon though, even according to this channel citizens would reach out to him for things such as name changes as well.

    This meeting caused the spark of the young Turk revolution 1908 as rumours spread that the two kings were going to divide up Macedonia. The revolution leads to the Bosnian crises 1908 and the Bulgarian independence, which causes damage between European powers which one by one lead to another like the Balkan wars 1912-1913 which finally leads to the Great War 1914

    It was terrible that their family in England let the Russian Czar and his family be killed like that. When coincidentally the royal family was actually German. So they weren't free of sin either

      As though I desire only heavenly peace for the Russian royal family, may peace be upon Them, it wasn't entirely the British royal family's fault. They had invited Nicholas but no longer could with the war situation and the likelihood of rebellion in Britain after inviting the Czar. It's not to say that the British and German royal families were not utterly horrified by the death of the Czar and the deposition of the Kaiser.

      Had the Kaiser not facilitated sending Lenin into Russia in 1917, his Russian relatives may not have come to such a terrible end.
      Then again I don’t know how much power these “kings” really had. Same with George. Could he have saved them, or was it the British govt that pulled the strings.
      I’m reminded in this of the Nicky-Willy telegrams in late July 1914 trying to row back on mobilization at the last minute. It’s said that the Tsar tried to get on the line to one of his generals to stop everything but the general in question cut the line because he knew it would stop the war. The German generals also seemingly misled the Kaiser with what was going on.

    While I love this channel, and visit it often, I must say that I find your merch a bit offensive. I do know most people would think nothing of it, but I am a member of the Romanov family, and it feels pretty messed up to see a youtube channel selling mugs with images of my dear relatives on them, and photographs of the family.
    When fetishizing the Romanovs, just remember this. We did not ALL die. Some of us escaped, and went into hiding. Others were hunted like dogs by the Cheka, the NKVD, and eventually the KGB. But even today there are still some of us out there in the world. We are human beings, and we love our family. I am glad that there are still people interested in my family, as they are quite extraordinary, and far more interesting than most people who ever lived. But really, who buys a mug with a picture of the Grand Duchesses on it?
    I do really find the whole situation quite tacky. And since you are generating revenue selling merchandise, I really do hope that whoever runs this channel is also a member of the family, and not some random person just trying to generate cash by exploitation. That I could actually understand.

    • @tabby5228
      @tabby5228 3 года назад +3

      You are correct. Alexandra and Dagnar, aka Minnie aka Marie Feodorovna the dowager empress of Russia were sisters. And since Edward was married to Alexandra, that makes him Nicholas’s uncle on his mothers side. And then you have Alexandra the current empress and Nicholas wife who was the daughter of Edwards sister Alice. Which makes him uncle to them both.
