The comment about the lack of rituals in friendship was interesting... but sororities and fraternities come to mind party for that purpose... but there is also so many double (triple!) standards applied (the example given if leave was a good one). You only need to read history, especially military history or histories of struggle like the suffragettes, to understand the power of platonic love. I have personally seen better health outcomes through fraternities. It's a pity that is not valued, and indeed often penalised. Here in Victoria, the government has made changes to law likely to wipe several male fraternities out, yet does see and support the value of a great organization like the Country Womans Association (CWA)... friendship is the engine room of groups like that. It keeps people healthy and often alive.
When the comment about wanting to know everything about M, I thought that also the desire to have that person know all about you. 😊
