I am a 737 Captain for a legacy airline in the U.S...... recently I was flying an evening flight out of Maui to LAX. We were routed further south than normal for our arrival to LAX. At about 11pm at night and 1 hour from landing in LAX over the Pacific just southwest of the California Coastline, in the darkness, I noticed an orange glow at our 10 o'clock in the far distance.... I immediately thought "Rocket launch". We had just got in contact with Los Angeles Center and questioning pilots were asking on the frequency what the orange glow was... the controller said on the frequency SpaceX Falcon 9 launch from Vandenberg. My First Officer and I watched this Falcon 9 go from left to right OVER OUR HEADS with what I could only describe as "comet like qualities"...... at our 3 to 4 O'clock my FO saw the first stage light up and land on the barge in the distant darkness........it was by far the COOLEST thing I have ever seen from the cockpit in my 18 years as an airline pilot...... I just sent this video to my fellow pilot friends who i told the story to...... Now, they can see what we saw that night!!!!... absolutley amazing .....! Words can't describe how beautiful the sky was with that rocket painting a picture...... it was simply Awesome!

I took my dad to see a shuttle launch 17 years ago. We were all in place and then they scrubbed with -2h on the clock. It was two weeks before it went off, by which time we were back in the UK. We went all that way to see nothing. So to all the people who write to say 'We just happened to be in Florida when...' or 'I was just flying a plane over Florida when...'... Aaaarrrgghh!. *Sigh*. My dad's too unwell to travel now; I was still hopeful of seeing an Artemis launch but they seem to have scrubbed that permanently. I should get back there for some sort of launch though. Great vid, to see the entire show unfold from launch to separation to entry burn to landing burn. Nice job.
Really nice video, the speed up let's you see how the drone ship bobs in the water and I never get tired of the jelly fish thing when it's dark but the vapor trail is illuminated. Be thanks to SpaceX for pre-visualizing the launch and setting the camera up to see all but the first 60 seconds or so of the launch.
Total time of this video was about 8.5 minutes, you see the launch, MECO, entry burn of first stage about 100 miles away, and finally landing burn and landing. Incredible!
Very cool. I saw a launch just like this from the side just before Christmas 2018. I was about 10 miles out of Pahrump, NV not long after dark and pulled over when I saw the launch. When I got into Pahrump, I encountered multiple car accidents on the way to the hotel. All of California was freaking out. They get launches like this all the time out of Vandenburg but they somehow forgot what the one last month looked like and were screaming about UFOs, too funny.

I’m so glad they finally fixed the camera going out issue just as it’s landing on the drone ship. How far is the drone ship sitting off the coast anyway? I always thought it was much further out than it looks in this video.
The problem was sending the footage, it was always recorded ok. Just the movement would throw the starlink aerial out of alignment. Still incredible. Just need to get the camera on a gimbal now to track the Falcon’s path. Plus, of course, we need scoring rings on the pad so they can get points for accuracy!
Just curious. What is that secondary flash within the launch path above the pad? It’s not the rocket since it is now overhead and out of the field of view of this camera?.
Love this… what is that ball of fire looking thing at 0:15? There was also another white flash just before that after Falcon 9 was was above the lens view.
The engines of the first stage, they lit before reentering the atmosphere so the vehicle slows down. The white trail is the second stage going into orbit.
That wuz straight up awesome.... NASA would've got a lot more funding back in the day if they inspired people with little video hooks like SpaceX is doing with this ☑️

😮 The drone-ship seems to be moving toward the landing point. I always assumed it is stationary waiting for the rocket to reach it at the landing point. Which one is it? Is the movement an illusion due to the fast forward and some water current?
I just realized that space is closer than I thought. I didn't know that rockets do not fly straight. But if you are looking at where the rocket launched or the rocket cam, it looks like it is flying straight.
They fly straight only for a bit until they are out of the thickest part of the atmosphere, after that they start tilting sideways as shown in the video.. it saves fuel and is the most efficient path. Inefficient Path : go up, then go right Efficient path: go up, and when theres okayish resistance start turning already.
