There's getting materials such as canvases, paints, brushes, pallets, and pallet knives. Then there's equipment such as solvents and paint thinners if you oil paint as well as the soap needed to clean your brushes once you finish. After all of this, there's things such as an easal. I love my work, but it can cost. Edit: Am I the only one who would love an inventor GOTY? I know Luciana was into STEM, but I think having a doll who builds things and absolutely lives technology would be perfect!
I want American girl to release a line of clothing without crazy graphics that are a part of a casual wear collection. it would be so fun to mix and match pieces without having so much glitter and overly bright colours.

They’ve recently released a few mix and match collabs that are adorable and totally wearable. The Janie and Jack collab was chefs kiss, I have almost all the pieces. I love how realistic they look. The first and second collabs with Something Navy were also excellent, although I’m really loving the Something Navy holiday collab. I feel that AG was gearing these collections towards the older collector and not necessarily the children. I hope they continue on that path. The Loveshack Fancy collab was also very pretty and realistic although it has a very Gunne Sax vibe, you have to be into that. I have all the pieces of that one except the accessories. It’s lovely but very spring/summer pastoral vibe.

That'd be amazing for so many kids with limb differences, I'd imagine! I hear you about the "staying home" thing. I'm from Missouri, and it ticked me that AG's only Missouri girl (Lea) spent most of her time out of country. It also peeved me a little that she's from St. Louis, because there's a lot more to the Show-Me State than the Gateway Arch and Cardinals baseball.
I think the traveling girl story would be good if they did a storyline where the girl had a parent in the military so they would have to move around. I think it'd be a nice change for the trope and be more relatable
I know military families are quite common in USA and that culture is very different in Canada! Whenever I go to usa I see military discounts everywhere but we don’t have that here in Canada
My favorite GOTY is Mia, she's so pretty, she was so unique looking at the time, and I loved her story. It even addressed skating being a rich kid thing, as a big part of Mia's story was that her family couldn't afford her figure skating hobby so she had to help at the skater rink in her free time to afford it.
yes i completly agree, we NEED a soccer girl of the year. AND A THEATER KID!! i know this isn't very likely, but a regular girl in highschool, dealing with drama and pressure would be a very interesting character. that would be a lot more relateable

I made my own custom goty doll. Something that American Girl would probably never do as it shifts away from its target audience. My custom goty is 17 and struggles with a mental disorder and disability as well as being non-binary and struggling to figure out what to do with their life as they are interested in music, ballet and writing. There is a lot more I can share about them, and they are definitely interesting, but I love my angel.
Kira being Australian themed is great, because I'm an Aussie, but I saw very little true blue Aussie tropes in her collection, it's almost as if they didn't even talk to any Australian people! Kira needed a meat pie, Vegemite toast and she's an animal girly but only small fluffy varieties. Give us more than just kangaroos and koalas!

Honestly the repeated tropes are frustrating because it is literally so easy to think of unique ideas, even just looking at comments there are so many different themes! I would love to see a GOTY with a visible disability, explicit cultural elements, and either no pet or a unique pet (lizard, bird, fish). So many hobbies/life events that haven’t been touched that could be really relatable to lots of kids.

I would personally love a doll that is more pleasant company. I'm not quite sure how to explain it but a girl who has sneakers and jeans and more natural colored clothing. Maybe a shorter hair style and she has an outfit with a dress along with an outfit with a shirt, some pants, and a baseball. You can still be feminine without having rainbows and very corny quotes on the front of the shirt. I also think natural colored hair in American Girl dolls should be brought back, brightly colored hair should be kept for either create your own or buying extensions that they sell separately. Most girls around the ages which the dolls are marketed to dont have colored hair so the doll wouldn't be truly you unless you have you hair dyed specifically the way the dolls is. I like the way pleasant company made their doll outfits, it was easier to mix and match because the sets weren't too in your face and had elaborate patterning on every article of clothing. From what I’ve read, parents buy their kids the fantasy colored hair dolls because they’d rather have the doll with fantasy colored hair than their kid ask to have their own hair dyed pink or whatever. They sell really well.

I actually submitted an idea for a GOTY who wasn’t very girly and the response they gave me was kind of weird but luckily I’m a customizer and can just make her myself.

Kanani doesn’t surf in her book she didn’t really enjoy surfing. Kanani came with a paddle board which is different than a surfboard. Kailey I believe had a boogie board which is also different from a surfboard. The only doll who was really into surfing was Joss that’s just my opinion. However I do agree the beach theme is overdone

Alright so this is minor, especially since I didn't notice this until I was dressing my dolls, but I want a doll whose pjs aren't blue. We've had 6 GOTYs with blue pjs. We need a pjs that are red or even some thing neutral like a patterned bottoms (related to whatever her hobby is) and a neutral top (like a black tank top) I think there should be a GOTY who is interested in medicine (preferably because she spent her life in hospitals ) and wants to be a doctor or nurse or something when she grows up. I would be really happy if she came out the year I graduate high school or while I'm in college
A social media themed doll seems incredibly weird to me. These dolls are primarily aimed at preteen girls, and have we really reached the point where we want and encourage girls of that age to amass a following of thousands of strangers? For what? As a career? That's a whole can of worms in itself. Or just for the heck of it, which can not only be dangerous, but plain unhealthy. I agree that a writer themed doll would be incredibly cute and there's plenty they could do with it other than stationary. A typewriter or laptop. A desk. A library play set. If she enters a writing contest she would need a special outfit to present her work. Or an outfit to go out and do research. Then of course a comfy out with eye protecting glasses to actually do all her writing. It'd be so cute!

I understand that it makes the dolls unique, but I personally don’t like how they have been giving every single new doll a new face mold. For example, Claudie, Makena, Corrine etc. I also feel like a lot of the new American girl dolls don’t really look like ag dolls. Like I absolutely hate the painted on lashes. The big eyes also look a little weird to me.

I love learning about medical procedures and conditions through RUclips videos, but having dolls who require feeding tubes etc would teach kids about it from a young age and to be accepting!

I want to see them do the horse girl thing but in a lot more realistic way. Horses will die from a tummy ache (aka colic). Seriously. Let her lose her horse and make grieving/moving on a main conflict, or maybe work to afford vet bills/all that actually goes into a horse. She figures out that the commitment is or isn't worth it to her and she has to pick the direction her life goes after. I'm a real life horse girl, and painting it all sunshine and rainbows isn't even close to realistic. ONE emergency vet bill can hit thousands of dollars. If nothing else, the parents will appreciate it. Or do the animal lover with other animals. Maybe she can be obsessed with frogs and lizards. There's more in this world than cute and fluffy.

I guess a trope would be the way the siblings are often written, a lot of them seemed like just the annoying brother trope or sisters that have very similar interests.

Yeah GOTY will always be between 9-13 years old. It’s the Truly Me dolls that are ageless (confirmed to be by an AG social media person)

I would love love love a martial arts doll. I think I’m a little biased because I have done it for 10 years lol but I totally agree with having more dolls that do more non traditional sports because they all feel the same.
I WANT A MUSICAL THEATRE KID DOLL SO BAD! Yes we have singers and dancers and actors but we don't have musical theatre. A ballet dancer or country singer is way different then a theatre kid. Kanani doesn’t surf in her book she didn’t really enjoy surfing. Kanani came with a paddle board which is different than a surfboard. Kailey I believe had a boogie board which is also different from a surfboard. The only doll who was really into surfing was Joss that’s just my opinion. However I do agree the beach theme is overdone

Alright so this is minor, especially since I didn't notice this until I was dressing my dolls, but I want a doll whose pjs aren't blue. We've had 6 GOTYs with blue pjs. We need a pjs that are red or even some thing neutral like a patterned bottoms (related to whatever her hobby is) and a neutral top (like a black tank top)
I think there should be a GOTY who is interested in medicine (preferably because she spent her life in hospitals ) and wants to be a doctor or nurse or something when she grows up. I would be really happy if she came out the year I graduate high school or while I'm in college
A social media themed doll seems incredibly weird to me. These dolls are primarily aimed at preteen girls, and have we really reached the point where we want and encourage girls of that age to amass a following of thousands of strangers? For what? As a career? That's a whole can of worms in itself. Or just for the heck of it, which can not only be dangerous, but plain unhealthy.
I agree that a writer themed doll would be incredibly cute and there's plenty they could do with it other than stationary. A typewriter or laptop. A desk. A library play set. If she enters a writing contest she would need a special outfit to present her work. Or an outfit to go out and do research. Then of course a comfy out with eye protecting glasses to actually do all her writing. It'd be so cute!
I mean AG did have Z yang... even if they made a slightly older goty like the WBU dolls it would be cool to see a content creator. I make all of my dolls adults so sometimes I do forget they are meant to be 10 year olds...

I understand that it makes the dolls unique, but I personally don’t like how they have been giving every single new doll a new face mold. For example, Claudie, Makena, Corrine etc. I also feel like a lot of the new American girl dolls don’t really look like ag dolls. Like I absolutely hate the painted on lashes. The big eyes also look a little weird to me.

Id love to have another GOTY with a disability example Joss 2020 with wearing aid and being born with hearing loss and deaf. I'd love to have a doll that's just like me with chronic illness i have a port o cath and feeding tube. I don't know why McKenna friend josie didn't get a doll she in a wheelchair and went horseback riding for kids like her in a wheelchair and other special needs kids. I mean if i remember right i read the McKenna books and they baked cookies with the special needs kids at the horseback riding place
I love learning about medical procedures and conditions through RUclips videos, but having dolls who require feeding tubes etc would teach kids about it from a young age and to be accepting!
yasss now I do not have a hearing aid but I can not hear out of my left ear and when joss came out I was so happy she was my first ag doll and she was an amazing one 🫶🏻😭💓
@@parislvr yes i have chronic illness with a feeding tube and a port o cath for iv infusions then I have a chronic lung condition too and chronic back pain due to scoliosis which i take pain medicine tough out the day.

I want to see them do the horse girl thing but in a lot more realistic way. Horses will die from a tummy ache (aka colic). Seriously. Let her lose her horse and make grieving/moving on a main conflict, or maybe work to afford vet bills/all that actually goes into a horse. She figures out that the commitment is or isn't worth it to her and she has to pick the direction her life goes after. I'm a real life horse girl, and painting it all sunshine and rainbows isn't even close to realistic. ONE emergency vet bill can hit thousands of dollars. If nothing else, the parents will appreciate it.
Or do the animal lover with other animals. Maybe she can be obsessed with frogs and lizards. There's more in this world than cute and fluffy.

Please have a swear warning next time 😶 ( I’m not mad don’t worry I just avoid language even as an adult I hope you understand) Anyway, I agree every doll has a fight with her best friend lol like I would like more sibling related or parent involvement in the stories not just peers. Corrine having Gywn as a main character was a great refresher- but I would love to see more dynamics because aside from that none of them is like my sibling relationships. I guess a trope would be the way the siblings are often written, a lot of them seemed like just the annoying brother trope or sisters that have very similar interests.
