Hello Ally, I've been a huge fan of your channel for a long time, and I always find myself fully engaged with your content. Your latest video really resonated with me, and I have to admit that I stepped away from the American Girl community for a while due to similar feelings. It's been challenging to get back into it with all the changes American Girl has been making. However, I've been slowly getting back into the community, and I'd love to see more content from you! Specifically, I think it would be amazing if you did a video where you imagine American Girl coming to you for advice on rebranding their dolls. What changes would you suggest? How would you re-imagine the brand? I'd love to hear your thoughts! Additionally, I would absolutely love to see some comparison videos, like ranking the old classic American Girl dolls alongside the new releases. That would be so much fun to watch! An "All My Dolls" video would also be incredible - I think many fans would love to see your collection and hear the stories behind each doll. I was really saddened to hear about the store closures. Growing up, I used to visit the American Girl store in California, but unfortunately, it closed down. Luckily, I've since moved closer to LA, so I'm only an hour away from the store there. Still, it's disheartening to see so many stores closing down.
I can really relate to what you said. American girl going through changes and rebrands definitely helped me get out of the loop. I still love my dolls, but the company has mostly lost me. It’s sad, but I’m glad I’m not the only one feeling this way. I’d love to get back into making videos. Thank you Ally for being an inspiration for me and the community :)

American girl dolls was my childhood. There was a period of time where I wasn’t really interested in dolls anymore but now that I’m 24 I’m falling in love with them all over again.
Definitely agree with the dislike of the very kiddy, pink & purple, unicorns and sparkles releases from the past few years. I've seen sneak peeks of the new Julie outfits on the AG Doll News blog, and they are anything BUT true-to-life 70s historical outfits. I'm fine with some stuff being for little kids obviously (that's their target audience), but if this new historical re-launch is going to be the same, what's left for adult collectors? I personally DO like the new TM dolls, but I respect your opinion and wish they had some more "normal" options for sure! I've never been a fan of the colorful hair; the only one I like & have is Corinne! But anyway, welcome back! Glad to see you again! ❤
My mom said they looked exactly like 70s historical outfits and she was Julie’s age in the 70s. She said she has similar stuff to them little plastic clips included. The colors aren’t even that bright and obnoxious lol

So glad you’re back!! Everything you said I feel too! When the Boston store went out of business I lost the store I visited every year and purchased exclusively from. I now only buy second hand AG dolls and clothing. The new stuff doesn’t resonate with me anymore.
Welcome back! 😁 I have felt pretty uninspired by American Girls releases lately too. I feel like the lifeforce that's keeping my love for AG alive is truly the creative, knowledgeable AG tube community and the content they put out. Going to AG's website is kind of a snoozefest these days for me haha
Welcome back, I've missed watching your videos! I totally relate to everything you said. I went through a big doll rut last year and packed away 30 out of 35 of my dolls 😅 I've just started to get back into collecting in October but still agree that the brand as a whole has lowkey lost my attention. I feel like all the collabs they have been doing, especially with HP and the Disney dolls, makes them feel like every basic doll brand when AG used to feel like it's own unique thing ya know? I also really relate to the whole trying to grow in this new AGTube community, working so hard on a video for only a handful of people to end up watching can be real discouraging :( but don't feel pressured to show your face if you don't want to! I only plan to show my face in a series that I am doing cause it won't make sense with out it but other then that my dolls will be the face of my videos so your not alone in that, the internet can be a weird place lol

For many years now I’ve been buying much more from Etsy (or sewing my own) doll clothing, not really buying from AG. Slowing down with dolls is a newer thing haha.
I’ll just add my voice to the chorus of people agreeing with you. I don’t mind the eyelashes and I’ve come to accept the rebrand of the truly me line but the overwhelming push towards younger and younger kids is discouraging. I feel like AG is marketing to 5 year olds now. Most of the releases are for younger and younger kids, but then, we have Harry Potter and collector dolls and historical rereleases. It just feels like AG is all over the place. My personal enjoyment of the dolls comes from sewing for them, taking pictures and setting up scenes. AG only comes into my enjoyment of dolls by making a doll I want or a specific clothing/food/ furniture/ accessory item that fits into my hobby. AG as a brand has lost its enjoyment for me, but I can enjoy my dolls and the worlds around them without AGs involvement.
With the stores closing and items being less accessible to me, it’s made me less motivated to keep up with the brand as a whole. The community is so talented, whether it’s sewing, taking photos, creating content etc. That’s what truly keeps me engaged. I’ve made so many friends because of it, including friendships that transcend AG
I've never clicked a video so fast. Glad you are slowly returning, Ally! I go back and forth with the new Truly Me dolls. I adore some, while others sort of make me roll my eyes. But with rumors going around about a massive AG rebrand (that from pictures looks very nostalgia inspired?) I'm hopeful!
Good to have u back!! One of my big issues with current ag is that they released the twins so soon after claudie. And then the twins get all the advertising on the website.

Ah I totally get what you’re saying :/ it’s hard to be really into ag when the BRAND ITS SELF is not intriguing me at all, it was definitely so sad to see the Canadian stores slowly get pulled, I remember going into the store last summer expecting to see new dolls and accessories only to find out half the store had been filled with Barbie’s since everyone was so hyped for the Barbie movie and all. Now it’s just baby stuff haha

I've been collecting since 2012, I've been watching RUclips since 2018 or 2019 and I've been on AGIG since September 2022. I bought most of my current collection between 2021 and 2023 and I'm currently in the middle of a no-spend year. AG is making that really easy for me, as I really don't like most of what they've been releasing. :) I think you make a lot of valid points. Thank you for sharing!
I can relate! I miss when American girl had dolls such as the best friends. I want to get certain dolls for customs, but I can't justify the price (and sometimes, quality) currently. I'm definitely in a rut. I don't want to move on from American girl, but if things don't improve, I might drift away
Prices are crazy! I was browsing the website to decide what outfit to buy when I go to an AG store on my trip, and it's so crazy! Etsy is expensive too due to fees, but at least you're supporting a small business, and the items are much better for mixing and matching.

Harry Potter makes sense as it’s popular, and it’s popularity has transcended generations (though I do not support JK Rowling). It’s not a shocking collaboration, and I’ll admit the items are cute, it just cheapens the brand for me
I am 100% with you. I got back into AG last year (after 20 years away) and it has been equally thrilling and… kind of infuriating. 😅 I dove in headfirst, too, taking my new adventure to RUclips, but now it’s almost impossible to post because I’m afraid of only ever coming off as a grouchy millennial, lol. It’s so hard to keep up with current American Girl without being constantly disappointed. It’s good to see you back. ❤
really started getting back to AG .. in the past year.. think i had somewhat of a mid life crisis & missed my childhood so i love the fact they are bringing back some of the OG american girls!!
Nice to see you back! We must be neighbors because I live a short drive from the Vancouver Indigo Chapters store. Last summer they had some great sales! I picked up a Julie, Gwynn , Melody and some accessories too. I was so sad to see the baby stuff take over and the AG section disappearing. I hope you will get excited about the dolls again but I’m proud of you for going so far in school. 🥰👍💐

So glad you are posting again! I agree a lot with what you said. I love my dolls but most of my dolls, outfits, and accessories that I have gotten the past 2-3 years have been from eBay and Mercari. I’m not a fan of the painted eyelashes either. Like you said, I think it makes the dolls look angry and annoyed. I keep forgetting about Lila as well, it’s not as special since she was released early. I’ve also been more interested in the historicals recently, and the older items are more accurate.
Welcome back! I found your videos 2-3 months ago and I've been enjoying watching your backlog. Your videos are so great and I was SO excited when I saw that you'd posted a new one! I definitely agree with what you said about the Truly Me rebrand. I started getting back into AG in 2020 but didn't really start collecting again until the past year and I feel so sad looking at the website. I'm old enough to remember the catalogues and the clothes in them. They were outfits that I wanted to wear (and did for a few of them). Now, the outfits are so...childish and there aren't many basics to mix and match, which was always my favorite part of getting new outfits. I also agree that there are TOO many releases. Nothing feels special when everything is special.
Also here in California the only AG doll physical store had opportunity to visit was Palto Alto, CA and importantly it says permeant closed. So now the Only AG store in California is in Los Angles,CA
I'm an old lady who loves AG dolls. What the store is doing effects me very little. They have shareholders to please and I think they've been struggling for a few years. What direction to take seems clear to us, but not so clear to whoever is making their decisions. Having said that, I did get Kirsten (it's my birthday next week) because I enjoy the more current face molds. She's very cute and it's great to have a complete outfit. I won't pay $55 for her birthday dress, though. Holy cow! AG clothes cost more than what I send for my own clothes. I do think the Barbie/Disney colabs seem a little contrived, but the dolls are cute.
They are so expensive now for outfits where I’d only use 1-2 pieces of each. Especially since I know how to sew. At least with Etsy you are supporting a small business
I totally agree with your video! I spend a lot of time at my local American Girl store and notice that the majority of kids getting dolls are around 4-5 and are always picking out the colored hair dolls and rainbow outfits/pets. With the rise of kids on the internet (esp Tiktok), I feel the customer age demographic at AG is either toddlers or adults-and that more and more kids dont want to play with dolls but grow up as fast as possible
I definitely relate with all of your points about ag. I don’t really like the way they redid the dolls, I like the old ones better. I also completely agree with the girl of the year, I don’t buy the goty every year but I look forward to January first every year to see which doll is coming out and to see her collection. It’s one of my highlights of New Year’s Day but last year when Lila came out in October I got so mad. My mom was saying it was because people want to buy it before Christmas is over but it defeats the purpose of being excited on new years to see the doll. Ooh costume design is so fun! I’m a sociology major, so lots of papers. I’m doing summer classes to have a lighter course load during the year, but it really depends on if a class is paper heavy or test heavy how busy I’ll be, as well as clubs. We need more AG sewing channels out there! It’s a niche the community is lacking. Dollyd3lights used to post sewing tutorials and free patterns, which was a great resource to get into sewing. We need a new version of that!
I'm glad to see you're back!! I've also been in kind of an American Girl rut, one bc they are just getting too expensive and also I haven't been interested in any dolls they've been making lately. Idk how I feel about the collabs; on one hand I kind of like them but on the other, I wish they would just make more basic outfits like you said, or more original outfits some of which are geared more towards children, but others that are geared towards adult collectors and have a lot of variety.

And yeah I totally feel changing your dolls outfits that they’ve been wearing forever, we do this a lot…typically we just change a doll at a time and the others get left in outfits lol. I agree I wish there were still natural hair colors to find your look alike, that was the joy of it. I do like some color but I feel like it’s taken over the whole line. And omg we talk all the time about how some dolls look angry. And yeah all the stores closing is annoying, the Bay Area one was our go to store and we had a lot of fun memories there. The new LA one is amazing but it is a drive for us. Wish we were able to go to your meetup, someday we will meet with Andrea and Bekah. Love the new video setup btw it looks so nice!
I still have a huge love for American Girl. Growing up it was my favorite thing to get when Christmas came around. I have eight dolls and I still want more. But I would more than likely buy them from eBay, or get a specific one from American Girl on a rare occasion. I have a hard time with the way that they are marketing and releasing things. Their marketing kind of contradicts what they’re selling. They’re trying to cater to more audiences than they should be. They really need to focus on one and try and regain their footing. When I was a kid, it was more geared towards 12-year-olds and that seemed to really work for them. Now it’s like they’re trying to cater towards everybody. Still markets the way that they did a while ago obviously there’s more inclusivity, but you can still be inclusive holding your old values. I don’t know if any of this makes sense. But that’s my two cents.
I didn’t realize how much the truly me rebranding bothered me until this video lol. They’re cheapening the materials but the dolls are just as expensive. Also, I was so sad about them closing so many stores too. I used to go to the one in the mall of America all the time. Now the closest one to me is Chicago. I will say too, I don’t mind the earlier release of the goty. The extra time is good I think. The dolls are so expensive for the average family, giving them an extra few months to buy the doll for their kid may actually be really helpful in terms of saving the money.

Yay, a new post! Congrats on three years of college. Yeah, AG has changed alot. It's trying to appeal to two different demographics post Beforever. PS: AG, if you're doing collabs, any chance collaborating with JoAnn's and selling bolts of fabric and ribbons with the original seven historicals' patterns? It would appeal to adults for nostalgia's sake. Kirsten's new adult-size Rubie's costumes outfit sold out in around ten hours, and everything but Julie's kids costume sold out within a day! Maybe add Courtney, Julie, Melody & Maryellen in for the kids? Pleeease?

Hi Ally cat! I just wanna say I LOVE and want a truly me doll but they need more dolls with dyed hair like my hair is washed out but it’s teal in pink at the bottom. So they don’t have a truly me doll like that and it makes me sad that they don’t really have that :(
I still haven’t ever found a doll that looks like me and now with the rebrand I don’t think I will ever find one. Maybe I’ll have to make one if I really want to, although even with the options on create your own I still can’t.

I love your videos and I understand your points. I also understand the sadness over losing some passion for something. I really like the eye lashes but I think there’s a 50/50 cut on people who like it and those who don’t. I started collecting last year so I kind of was used to the lashes. I also dress very over the top so I really don’t hate the newer outfits and have purchased most of them. I personally wish they had both. Like clothes more in the style you put on your dolls and clothes in the other style. Idk why they can’t have both because not all people are sparkles and bright pink even kids. i definitely relate to what u said about using this channel to watch videos still haha. i made this account when i was 5 years old and it has all my subscriptions and preferences! i agree with a lot of what u said about ag changing for the worse. i can't fully be objective because at the end of the day i was once their target audience and i am not anymore. but noticing even longtime adult collectors and the general public lose interest, i do think the brand is just deteriorating objectively. they lost the plot, and while they've been trying to become like the other mattel brands in very recent years (which in theory sounds like a great idea and a welcome change) they've been forfeiting all so much of their identity (historical focus, earthy tones, high quality, etc.) in favor of things that now make them identical to every other 18 inch doll brand. even with the contemporary characters of the past like lindsey, marisol, chrissa, kanani, etc. their stories had strong character focus, which has always been an integral part of ag. since isabelle (beforever era) they've been neglecting that. corrinne felt like a nice return to form, but lila is a big flop.
Lila is so forgettable to me. Even Kavi because she felt overshadowed. Corinne had a clear theme, hobby, a stop motion series and a movie. We really got to know her, and so much effort was put in. I’m surprised I haven’t seen you in many comment sections haha! H2 aurr
Your videos are really good I love your videos and I know that you've been busy with college and stuff and I'm glad that you are getting a really good education and don't worry people that don't understand you shouldn't be her friends and you're a wonderful person and you take really good care of your American girls I don't always play with my American girls either ♥️♥️♥️♥️
See I'm conflicted on the brand right now. I have grown to love the new truly me's but with all their flaws its hard for me to want to order online- the only recent doll I have being Evette and luckily she was perfect. And the disney dolls are gorgeous but they don't fit my collection. I do still have a few things I want from the website, but overall it's not as much as it was when I was a kid circling stuff in the catalogues. At this point it's cheaper for me to focus on my other dolls like monster high g3 than to order directly from AG. That being said, I love my dolls and I don't plan to sell them. I've been buying a lot of older outfits on ebay and really focusing on building up my wardrobe. I do hope we get some more releases that feel like the older generations of the brand, but I'm not getting my hopes up.
We had an AG doll store near St.Louis and I was so excited that my 7 year old granddaughter wanted one for her birthday this year. Which got me to thinking about a road trip to the store etc….only to find it had been closed! Grrrr There are so many look alike AMerican Girl dolls out now too that it is difficult to justify spending the money for the AG name brand. I was just confused when I went online to buy a doll because I wasn’t family with the different names-historical, truly me etc. of course I am in my 60’s and do not have a problem with pink hair or unicorn hair, but to just get a Caucasian doll made like my granddaughter was frustrating bc they were ‘sold out’ of the oval face! What!? How can that be possible. So I ended up not going that route at all, which was disappointing.
Law ideally, or possibly elementary education. I don’t plan on getting a masters in my current degree (sociology) as I don’t want to do research for a career. Have to look into applications this summer ahh

I feel like Ally is my identity on here (and I use the name irl sometimes if two people have my name), and it feels kind of like Hannah Montana. If you call me Ally you’re a doll person from that side of my life. My face I think I’ll do it when the time is right. Not necessarily on thumbnails, but certain types of content it’s easier to show my face, like meetup vlogs, dressing my dolls etc. The channel will always be about the dolls. Also, I meet many doll people that are into survivor, and into Loona, but rarely the trifecta! It’s very memorable haha

Lol not a lot of their clothes are clothes you see actual kids wearing. Before, their clothes followed regular trends and stuff. Now, a lot of it is either sports, franchise themed, or kind of crazy and dress up-ey
I work with kids. Kids under 9 I would say wear what AG releases, in terms of graphic T shirts, coloured leggings etc. Sanrio is crazy popular! But tweens definitely don't dress like AG. They wear ripped jeans, lots of basics, whatever tik tok says is cool. Even for kids, it really depends on their parents, as I've seen some who dress very trendy. But even when I was younger, I gravitated towards the more mature (while appropriate) fashions for my dolls, as I always pretended they were in college, and an older version of myself
@@AllycatlovesAG I do work with kids too all day every day, but it must be a regional thing. Kids where I live don't dress that way or at least with what AG has. What I'm seeing mostly when I look up AG clothes are the Harry Potter collection, the historical stuff, sports outfits, costumes, the world traveler stuff, NFL stuff, the birthstone stuff, Disney, and some celebration outfits. I live on the northeast in the United States and kids do still wear graphic tees and colored leggings, but AG really doesn't have a lot of graphic tees or colored leggings these days (but they used to) and they don't have anything Sanrio or Sanrio like
@@AllycatlovesAG I think it would be nice to see more a mix of outfits. At least before you'd see some outfits that seemed more like what kids were wearing or something that looks comfy to wear. I wouldn't mind seeing a few graphic tees because that's what I like to buy from AG, but lol I think they quit making them. They need to have some people hang out and watch what kids are wearing. It wouldn't hurt to hang out around middle schoolers and have a look too
I find the adult collector community overly critical. I don't get the hate for the new Truly Me dolls; I think they're gorgeous. I like the lashes a lot. But the community has been insanely critical of the rebrand in my opinion (although I do think the T-shirt dresses for the meet outfits were too cheap and not nice at all). And there was such a huge fuss over the permapanties, but I have some dolls with those and they're totally fine, in fact the clothes fit better as the permas are more slimline. I don't ever think about the direction the brand is going in, I just really like the products. When I read the opinions of the community, it feels like AG can't do anything right. Just so much criticism for a brand that does a LOT.
They look like adults now. Not like kids. And, yes the look a like dolls are not like that anymore, they missed a lot of people characteristics. But they are targeting younger because older children are not children anymore. Their main target audience 8-11 are pre teens and wants Sephora, Stanley and Iphone.
I can live with the eye lashes. Even if you don’t like them they can be removed. The eyebrows tho? Joss is UNBELIEVABLY cute. Nicki and Isabel are NOT cute. It’s those eyebrows! Why! And that’s MY era I *should* love those dolls and I find them slightly terrifying. 😂

I've been a huge fan of your channel for a long time, and I always find myself fully engaged with your content. Your latest video really resonated with me, and I have to admit that I stepped away from the American Girl community for a while due to similar feelings.
It's been challenging to get back into it with all the changes American Girl has been making. However, I've been slowly getting back into the community, and I'd love to see more content from you! Specifically, I think it would be amazing if you did a video where you imagine American Girl coming to you for advice on rebranding their dolls. What changes would you suggest? How would you re-imagine the brand? I'd love to hear your thoughts!
Additionally, I would absolutely love to see some comparison videos, like ranking the old classic American Girl dolls alongside the new releases. That would be so much fun to watch! An "All My Dolls" video would also be incredible - I think many fans would love to see your collection and hear the stories behind each doll.
I was really saddened to hear about the store closures. Growing up, I used to visit the American Girl store in California, but unfortunately, it closed down. Luckily, I've since moved closer to LA, so I'm only an hour away from the store there. Still, it's disheartening to see so many stores closing down.
I can really relate to what you said. American girl going through changes and rebrands definitely helped me get out of the loop. I still love my dolls, but the company has mostly lost me. It’s sad, but I’m glad I’m not the only one feeling this way. I’d love to get back into making videos. Thank you Ally for being an inspiration for me and the community :)

American girl dolls was my childhood. There was a period of time where I wasn’t really interested in dolls anymore but now that I’m 24 I’m falling in love with them all over again.
Definitely agree with the dislike of the very kiddy, pink & purple, unicorns and sparkles releases from the past few years. I've seen sneak peeks of the new Julie outfits on the AG Doll News blog, and they are anything BUT true-to-life 70s historical outfits. I'm fine with some stuff being for little kids obviously (that's their target audience), but if this new historical re-launch is going to be the same, what's left for adult collectors? I personally DO like the new TM dolls, but I respect your opinion and wish they had some more "normal" options for sure! I've never been a fan of the colorful hair; the only one I like & have is Corinne! But anyway, welcome back! Glad to see you again! ❤

My mom said they looked exactly like 70s historical outfits and she was Julie’s age in the 70s. She said she has similar stuff to them little plastic clips included. The colors aren’t even that bright and obnoxious lol

So glad you’re back!! Everything you said I feel too! When the Boston store went out of business I lost the store I visited every year and purchased exclusively from. I now only buy second hand AG dolls and clothing. The new stuff doesn’t resonate with me anymore.
Welcome back! 😁 I have felt pretty uninspired by American Girls releases lately too. I feel like the lifeforce that's keeping my love for AG alive is truly the creative, knowledgeable AG tube community and the content they put out. Going to AG's website is kind of a snoozefest these days for me haha

Welcome back, I've missed watching your videos! I totally relate to everything you said. I went through a big doll rut last year and packed away 30 out of 35 of my dolls 😅 I've just started to get back into collecting in October but still agree that the brand as a whole has lowkey lost my attention. I feel like all the collabs they have been doing, especially with HP and the Disney dolls, makes them feel like every basic doll brand when AG used to feel like it's own unique thing ya know? I also really relate to the whole trying to grow in this new AGTube community, working so hard on a video for only a handful of people to end up watching can be real discouraging :( but don't feel pressured to show your face if you don't want to! I only plan to show my face in a series that I am doing cause it won't make sense with out it but other then that my dolls will be the face of my videos so your not alone in that, the internet can be a weird place lol

For many years now I’ve been buying much more from Etsy (or sewing my own) doll clothing, not really buying from AG. Slowing down with dolls is a newer thing haha.
I’ll just add my voice to the chorus of people agreeing with you. I don’t mind the eyelashes and I’ve come to accept the rebrand of the truly me line but the overwhelming push towards younger and younger kids is discouraging. I feel like AG is marketing to 5 year olds now. Most of the releases are for younger and younger kids, but then, we have Harry Potter and collector dolls and historical rereleases. It just feels like AG is all over the place.
My personal enjoyment of the dolls comes from sewing for them, taking pictures and setting up scenes. AG only comes into my enjoyment of dolls by making a doll I want or a specific clothing/food/ furniture/ accessory item that fits into my hobby. AG as a brand has lost its enjoyment for me, but I can enjoy my dolls and the worlds around them without AGs involvement.
With the stores closing and items being less accessible to me, it’s made me less motivated to keep up with the brand as a whole. The community is so talented, whether it’s sewing, taking photos, creating content etc. That’s what truly keeps me engaged. I’ve made so many friends because of it, including friendships that transcend AG

I go back and forth with the new Truly Me dolls. I adore some, while others sort of make me roll my eyes. But with rumors going around about a massive AG rebrand (that from pictures looks very nostalgia inspired?) I'm hopeful!

Ah I totally get what you’re saying :/ it’s hard to be really into ag when the BRAND ITS SELF is not intriguing me at all, it was definitely so sad to see the Canadian stores slowly get pulled, I remember going into the store last summer expecting to see new dolls and accessories only to find out half the store had been filled with Barbie’s since everyone was so hyped for the Barbie movie and all. Now it’s just baby stuff haha

I can relate! I miss when American girl had dolls such as the best friends. I want to get certain dolls for customs, but I can't justify the price (and sometimes, quality) currently. I'm definitely in a rut. I don't want to move on from American girl, but if things don't improve, I might drift away
Prices are crazy! I was browsing the website to decide what outfit to buy when I go to an AG store on my trip, and it's so crazy! Etsy is expensive too due to fees, but at least you're supporting a small business, and the items are much better for mixing and matching.

Harry Potter makes sense as it’s popular, and it’s popularity has transcended generations (though I do not support JK Rowling). It’s not a shocking collaboration, and I’ll admit the items are cute, it just cheapens the brand for me
I am 100% with you. I got back into AG last year (after 20 years away) and it has been equally thrilling and… kind of infuriating. 😅 I dove in headfirst, too, taking my new adventure to RUclips, but now it’s almost impossible to post because I’m afraid of only ever coming off as a grouchy millennial, lol. It’s so hard to keep up with current American Girl without being constantly disappointed.

Nice to see you back! We must be neighbors because I live a short drive from the Vancouver Indigo Chapters store. Last summer they had some great sales! I picked up a Julie, Gwynn , Melody and some accessories too. I was so sad to see the baby stuff take over and the AG section disappearing. So glad you are posting again! I agree a lot with what you said. I love my dolls but most of my dolls, outfits, and accessories that I have gotten the past 2-3 years have been from eBay and Mercari. I’m not a fan of the painted eyelashes either. Like you said, I think it makes the dolls look angry and annoyed. I keep forgetting about Lila as well, it’s not as special since she was released early. I’ve also been more interested in the historicals recently, and the older items are more accurate.
Welcome back! I found your videos 2-3 months ago and I've been enjoying watching your backlog. Your videos are so great and I was SO excited when I saw that you'd posted a new one! I definitely agree with what you said about the Truly Me rebrand. I started getting back into AG in 2020 but didn't really start collecting again until the past year and I feel so sad looking at the website. I'm old enough to remember the catalogues and the clothes in them. They were outfits that I wanted to wear (and did for a few of them). Now, the outfits are so...childish and there aren't many basics to mix and match, which was always my favorite part of getting new outfits. I also agree that there are TOO many releases. Nothing feels special when everything is special.
Also here in California the only AG doll physical store had opportunity to visit was Palto Alto, CA and importantly it says permeant closed. So now the Only AG store in California is in Los Angles,CA
I'm an old lady who loves AG dolls. What the store is doing effects me very little. They have shareholders to please and I think they've been struggling for a few years. What direction to take seems clear to us, but not so clear to whoever is making their decisions. Having said that, I did get Kirsten (it's my birthday next week) because I enjoy the more current face molds. She's very cute and it's great to have a complete outfit. I won't pay $55 for her birthday dress, though. Holy cow! AG clothes cost more than what I send for my own clothes. I do think the Barbie/Disney colabs seem a little contrived, but the dolls are cute.
They are so expensive now for outfits where I’d only use 1-2 pieces of each. Especially since I know how to sew. At least with Etsy you are supporting a small business
I stopped collecting the dolls and outfits to save money and am concentrating on diamond painting. I do need to rotate dolls and redress some.
Diamond Painting is something I’ve wanted to try, but I know I will buy it and never finish. Cool hobby though

I totally agree with your video! I spend a lot of time at my local American Girl store and notice that the majority of kids getting dolls are around 4-5 and are always picking out the colored hair dolls and rainbow outfits/pets. With the rise of kids on the internet (esp Tiktok), I feel the customer age demographic at AG is either toddlers or adults-and that more and more kids dont want to play with dolls but grow up as fast as possible
I definitely relate with all of your points about ag. I don’t really like the way they redid the dolls, I like the old ones better. I also completely agree with the girl of the year, I don’t buy the goty every year but I look forward to January first every year to see which doll is coming out and to see her collection. It’s one of my highlights of New Year’s Day but last year when Lila came out in October I got so mad. My mom was saying it was because people want to buy it before Christmas is over but it defeats the purpose of being excited on new years to see the doll. Ooh costume design is so fun! I’m a sociology major, so lots of papers. I’m doing summer classes to have a lighter course load during the year, but it really depends on if a class is paper heavy or test heavy how busy I’ll be, as well as clubs. We need more AG sewing channels out there! It’s a niche the community is lacking. Dollyd3lights used to post sewing tutorials and free patterns, which was a great resource to get into sewing. We need a new version of that!

Idk how I feel about the collabs; on one hand I kind of like them but on the other, I wish they would just make more basic outfits like you said, or more original outfits some of which are geared more towards children, but others that are geared towards adult collectors and have a lot of variety.

And yeah I totally feel changing your dolls outfits that they’ve been wearing forever, we do this a lot…typically we just change a doll at a time and the others get left in outfits lol. I agree I wish there were still natural hair colors to find your look alike, that was the joy of it. I do like some color but I feel like it’s taken over the whole line. And omg we talk all the time about how some dolls look angry. And yeah all the stores closing is annoying, the Bay Area one was our go to store and we had a lot of fun memories there. I still have a huge love for American Girl. Growing up it was my favorite thing to get when Christmas came around. I have eight dolls and I still want more. But I would more than likely buy them from eBay, or get a specific one from American Girl on a rare occasion. I have a hard time with the way that they are marketing and releasing things. Their marketing kind of contradicts what they’re selling. They’re trying to cater to more audiences than they should be. They really need to focus on one and try and regain their footing. When I was a kid, it was more geared towards 12-year-olds and that seemed to really work for them. Now it’s like they’re trying to cater towards everybody. Still markets the way that they did a while ago obviously there’s more inclusivity, but you can still be inclusive holding your old values. I don’t know if any of this makes sense. But that’s my two cents.
I didn’t realize how much the truly me rebranding bothered me until this video lol. They’re cheapening the materials but the dolls are just as expensive. Also, I was so sad about them closing so many stores too. I used to go to the one in the mall of America all the time. Now the closest one to me is Chicago. I will say too, I don’t mind the earlier release of the goty. The extra time is good I think. The dolls are so expensive for the average family, giving them an extra few months to buy the doll for their kid may actually be really helpful in terms of saving the money.

Hi Ally cat! I just wanna say I LOVE and want a truly me doll but they need more dolls with dyed hair like my hair is washed out but it’s teal in pink at the bottom. So they don’t have a truly me doll like that and it makes me sad that they don’t really have that :(

I love your videos and I understand your points. I also understand the sadness over losing some passion for something. I really like the eye lashes but I think there’s a 50/50 cut on people who like it and those who don’t. I started collecting last year so I kind of was used to the lashes. I also dress very over the top so I really don’t hate the newer outfits and have purchased most of them. I personally wish they had both. Like clothes more in the style you put on your dolls and clothes in the other style. Idk why they can’t have both because not all people are sparkles and bright pink even kids.

i agree with a lot of what u said about ag changing for the worse. i can't fully be objective because at the end of the day i was once their target audience and i am not anymore. but noticing even longtime adult collectors and the general public lose interest, i do think the brand is just deteriorating objectively. they lost the plot, and while they've been trying to become like the other mattel brands in very recent years (which in theory sounds like a great idea and a welcome change) they've been forfeiting all so much of their identity (historical focus, earthy tones, high quality, etc.) in favor of things that now make them identical to every other 18 inch doll brand.
even with the contemporary characters of the past like lindsey, marisol, chrissa, kanani, etc. their stories had strong character focus, which has always been an integral part of ag. since isabelle (beforever era) they've been neglecting that. corrinne felt like a nice return to form, but lila is a big flop.
Lila is so forgettable to me. Even Kavi because she felt overshadowed. Corinne had a clear theme, hobby, a stop motion series and a movie. We really got to know her, and so much effort was put in.

See I'm conflicted on the brand right now. I have grown to love the new truly me's but with all their flaws its hard for me to want to order online- the only recent doll I have being Evette and luckily she was perfect. And the disney dolls are gorgeous but they don't fit my collection. I do still have a few things I want from the website, but overall it's not as much as it was when I was a kid circling stuff in the catalogues. At this point it's cheaper for me to focus on my other dolls like monster high g3 than to order directly from AG. That being said, I love my dolls and I don't plan to sell them. I've been buying a lot of older outfits on ebay and really focusing on building up my wardrobe. I do hope we get some more releases that feel like the older generations of the brand, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

We had an AG doll store near St.Louis and I was so excited that my 7 year old granddaughter wanted one for her birthday this year. Which got me to thinking about a road trip to the store etc….only to find it had been closed! Grrrr
There are so many look alike AMerican Girl dolls out now too that it is difficult to justify spending the money for the AG name brand. I was just confused when I went online to buy a doll because I wasn’t family with the different names-historical, truly me etc. of course I am in my 60’s and do not have a problem with pink hair or unicorn hair, but to just get a Caucasian doll made like my granddaughter was frustrating bc they were ‘sold out’ of the oval face! What!? How can that be possible. So I ended up not going that route at all, which was disappointing.

Law ideally, or possibly elementary education. I don’t plan on getting a masters in my current degree (sociology) as I don’t want to do research for a career. Have to look into applications this summer ahh

I feel like Ally is my identity on here (and I use the name irl sometimes if two people have my name), and it feels kind of like Hannah Montana. If you call me Ally you’re a doll person from that side of my life. My face I think I’ll do it when the time is right. Not necessarily on thumbnails, but certain types of content it’s easier to show my face, like meetup vlogs, dressing my dolls etc. The channel will always be about the dolls.
Also, I meet many doll people that are into survivor, and into Loona, but rarely the trifecta! It’s very memorable haha

Lol not a lot of their clothes are clothes you see actual kids wearing. Before, their clothes followed regular trends and stuff. Now, a lot of it is either sports, franchise themed, or kind of crazy and dress up-ey
I work with kids. Kids under 9 I would say wear what AG releases, in terms of graphic T shirts, coloured leggings etc. Sanrio is crazy popular! But tweens definitely don't dress like AG. They wear ripped jeans, lots of basics, whatever tik tok says is cool. Even for kids, it really depends on their parents, as I've seen some who dress very trendy. But even when I was younger, I gravitated towards the more mature (while appropriate) fashions for my dolls, as I always pretended they were in college, and an older version of myself
@@AllycatlovesAG I do work with kids too all day every day, but it must be a regional thing. Kids where I live don't dress that way or at least with what AG has. What I'm seeing mostly when I look up AG clothes are the Harry Potter collection, the historical stuff, sports outfits, costumes, the world traveler stuff, NFL stuff, the birthstone stuff, Disney, and some celebration outfits. I live on the northeast in the United States and kids do still wear graphic tees and colored leggings, but AG really doesn't have a lot of graphic tees or colored leggings these days (but they used to) and they don't have anything Sanrio or Sanrio like

@@AllycatlovesAG I think it would be nice to see more a mix of outfits. At least before you'd see some outfits that seemed more like what kids were wearing or something that looks comfy to wear. I wouldn't mind seeing a few graphic tees because that's what I like to buy from AG, but lol I think they quit making them. They need to have some people hang out and watch what kids are wearing. It wouldn't hurt to hang out around middle schoolers and have a look too

I find the adult collector community overly critical. I don't get the hate for the new Truly Me dolls; I think they're gorgeous. I like the lashes a lot. But the community has been insanely critical of the rebrand in my opinion (although I do think the T-shirt dresses for the meet outfits were too cheap and not nice at all). And there was such a huge fuss over the permapanties, but I have some dolls with those and they're totally fine, in fact the clothes fit better as the permas are more slimline. I don't ever think about the direction the brand is going in, I just really like the products. When I read the opinions of the community, it feels like AG can't do anything right. Just so much criticism for a brand that does a LOT.
I know I don't I like some of the Disney outfits but I don't like all of them either
They look like adults now. Not like kids. And, yes the look a like dolls are not like that anymore, they missed a lot of people characteristics.
But they are targeting younger because older children are not children anymore. Their main target audience 8-11 are pre teens and wants Sephora, Stanley and Iphone.

I can live with the eye lashes. Even if you don’t like them they can be removed. The eyebrows tho? Joss is UNBELIEVABLY cute. Nicki and Isabel are NOT cute. It’s those eyebrows! Why! And that’s MY era I *should* love those dolls and I find them slightly terrifying. 😂
