"I just mortgaged our future without consulting or informing anyone on the staff, but it's okay, because I won't even bother to check if it screws us with the cap until after the deal is done." A lot of people complained this was an unrealistic movie, but frankly that sounds a lot like what the real Cleveland Browns would do.

The only silly part, was him even worrying about the cap difference. This was just to give her some lines and to create phoney tension and conflict.
In reality, you can shift the money around for years to make anything work, for one simple reason. The cap almost always increases each year, so your extra money will eventually appear. Just redo someone elses deal to backload their current deal, and you dont even have to cut anyone. The cap is a zero problem here. Especially since these rookies no longer get mega deals right put of college anymore.

People who criticize this movie are missing the point. The point the movie is attempting to make is that Weaver is off his game because his father died. He made a stupid impulse decision to give up three first rounders for a player they don’t really need. The “plot holes” you point out like “why would he make the deal without looking into Callahan”, and “why would he make the move without checking the salary cap implications” are put into the movie on purpose to show Weaver is not thinking clearly and smartly. It’s part of the plot.
