    Excellent overview of a great product! Would love to see you review the 8 x 20 BR Ultravid.

    I've just ordered the 8x20 BR version of these, and I'm looking forward to trying them out, as I've heard nothing but good about them. I own also the Leica Duovid 10-15x50 which are an exceptional pair of binoculars which I've owned since 2002, they really are like having two pairs of binoculars in one, due to their dual power. Downside is they are rather heavy and large, hence the reason for the Ultravid 8x20 purchase, as I wanted a pocket sized pair of binoculars, that I could slip into a pocket for when I am out walking down by my local river area. Really useful overview/review, thanks very much.

    If the these lieca 10x25 are "among the best compacts", then please let me know what the other best ones are. Thanks

    Bought Nikon HG L DCF 8x20 and comapred with my Leica UV 8x20 BR side by side.
    OPTICS (Nikon better):
    Nikon: sharper on 10%, brighter on 5-10%, FOV wider, much easier to put on eyes with switched-off eyecups. Nikon has clear, sharp, crisp and pleasant picture with little yellow overall tint and soft (not toxic-contrast) colours. Overall i falled in love with Nikon after Leica and always my eyes asking me too take Nikon with me instead of Leica.
    Leica: very good sharpness, good brightness, FOV narrow, sometimes hard to put on eyes with switched-off eyecups and hold still to avoid blackouts of picture. Colours natural but very CONTRAST and SATURATED. Leica has overall VERY GOOD picture with vivid and saturated colours, but "narrrow FOV" and "Hard Putting on Eyes" make me to love Nikon more.
    PS: both Nikon and Leica have some glares/flares on bright sun - nearly equal, maybe Leica sometimes a little more.
    BODY (Leica better):
    Leica: smaller, tougher, built like a tank that made of steel and resin. VERY handy and smart construction. Very Good Eyecups.
    Nikon: bigger than Leica on few millimeters; mostly made of metal, very solid, BUT upper part of bridge and diopter wheel made of good (but) plastic - for me its not a big problem. Focus wheel (metalic) placed in front - i regulate it with a smallest fifth finger with no problem. Excellent eyecups.
    FINAL - I would prefer Nikon even if they were at the same price. But given that Nikon is cheaper by $ 200-250, then this is a clear win for Nikon.

    Bought a pair of these Leica 10x25 BR and trying them feels like my eyes are a prisoner in a confined space so I can't love them sadly. My Nikon M7 10x30 are bulkier but much more relaxed viewing by comparison, or any other of my bins for that matter. Lovely colour though and the binocular itself looks great & build feels great but the focuser on mine is terrible to move (very stiff and jerky, guess the quality checker guy that signed the card didn't notice this?), unless you use both finger and thumb to move it. I also bought a Zeiss 8x25 Pocket (large Pocket lol) and it is bit awkward/strange for eye positioning but otherwise very impressive viewing and a definite keeper. With the Leica I also don't like that they do not come with objective caps as the objectives are not deeply recessed and will rub off the supplied bag inside when moving about so you will need to get caps separately or else a different bag. I can't live with the 10x25 Leica so unfortunately a return & I imagine I would find the 8x20 similarly restrictive viewing but at least it would be very compact, have a wider fov and closer focus, so maybe I might have been better with that? I went for the 10x25 as I already have an RSPB HD 8x20 that is actually pretty good (amazingly sharp) especially after I super tightened the hinges. Anyhow I read all these great reviews of this Leica but I thought people should be aware of some it's weaknesses also. I will miss it's colour, contrast and at least spot on accurate focusing but not the rest of it. At least I tried. BTW I also bought a Pentax VD 4x20 recently and although very low magnification I find I like it very much but I think the Leica does beat all of the bins for colour, just not usability and ease of view. The Pentax does have a 5mm exit pupil so that makes it probably the most eye relaxing compact I have ever used but not much use over distance hence again why I tried the Leica 10x25 & instead of the Zeiss 10x25 because of the Leica being more compact.

    • @geeeeeeeezzzzzzzzzz

      @@redpillnibbler4423 Yes bought one but it seemed to be out of collimation so not a comfortable view and I returned it but on a sunny day the optics almost made everything look like it had a very thin film of gold covering so that was really nice but I didn't like the smallish view with it. Just ordered a Trinovid 8x20 today to see if I like that for a small pocket bin as the Zeiss Pocket is a fairly large compact as is the Zwaro 8x25. If the Trinovid is more impressive than my RSPB HD 8x20 then I will be very happy, otherwise... well could be yet another return.

      Strange about the Swaro,mine is fine,very nice in fact.I believe the Leica is smaller/lighter but narrower view (I wouldn’t mind one though) Good viewing 👍

      @geeeeeeeezzzzzzzzzz 2 года назад

      @@redpillnibbler4423 I like the larger view with the Victory Pocket but I have a cheap 8x24 porro bin that is almost optically as good as any of these high end bins, the Carson Manta Ray 8x24. it actually stops me using the Victory so much as there is not much gain and my Nikon 10x30 M7 is similarly good though slightly larger. I probably won't be much impressed with this 8x20 Leica but not many decent alternatives for a small folder. Will see. My Swaro 8x25 was an ex demo in mint condition but there was definitely something wrong with it as even my RSPB 8x20 was easier to view through. If it had not had this problem I definitely would have kept it. I suppose I could have sent it in under warranty but I couldn't be bothered at the time. Also bought and returned a Zeiss Terra 10x25 and that was the absolute pits. Nothing sharp whatsoever. So many problematic bins floating about but I'd still take the Victory pocket over the Swaro even though the Swaro had a better build quality and probably nicer optic coatings and I would never consider another Leica Ultravid 10x25 as I compared it to my cheap Carson 7x20 bin when out trying the Leica and the Carson was in many ways better. I still use both Carson's but the 7x20 is discontinued I think though I have a new boxed spare. Just keep buying more bins and stuff that you really don't need is the main thing I think lol.

      Thanks for the interesting reply,I’m sure Swarovski would sort your bino’s out for you.
      I’ll look into the Carson it sounds a good cheaper alternative if it’s still available.
      VERY Coincidentally I’ve just this last week looked into buying the Nikon Monarch M7 10x30,it has good reviews.I’d love the swaro 10x32 NL pure but they’re prrrrisseyyyy lol
      Also the RSPB HD binoculars you mentioned look interesting,thanks for that.
      Eye relief for me is a deal breaker - because I need to wear glasses I guess I need about minimum 16mm eye relief,this limits my choice.The Swaros are ok for long eye relief but could be a bit longer and I’m disappointed the hinges are a bit loose and easily moved which is unacceptable for the price but the optics are excellent.
      I did think about the Zeiss but glad I chose the Swaros.Never tried the Leica 8x20 binos but they look very neat and my funds are limited though I’m tempted by the MONOVID 8x20.
      If you’re like me you can’t test stuff out and rely on reviews and forums then as with everything you pays your money and takes your choice.

    I own the 7x42 Ultravid HD+, and my only real criticism, is the poor quality carrying case.
    The case is more suited to a pair of budget binoculars costing less than the asking price of the neck lanyard (£100)
    That's my only criticism, the binoculars are stunning things, beautifully made, as are the objective lens and eyepiece covers.
    For a premium product, there is no place for a carrying case as poor quality as this one.

    I heard that these binoculars have a shaky image due to the 10x magnification with the narrow field of view of 273 feet. Also the dual hinge makes these and all dual hinge compacts flimsy and annoying in eye placement . So I do not know if I will buy these ? I may go with a Swarovski CL 10x30 new ones 2018 model . I wish there was a review on those on optics trade.

    • @OpticsTradeEU
      @OpticsTradeEU  6 лет назад +1

      We do not think that the Leica has a shaky image despite the big magnification, but you are looking 2 different kinds of binoculars.
      This Leica is a pocket binocular, and the Swarovski a compact binocular, what means the Swarovski is a lot bigger than the Leica. We think that with both of them you would be satisfied.

      Ok, Thank you for the reply , now to choose which one to buy in a 10X magnification. I am not sure which one would be better? The Leica has 273 feet of view and the Swarovski 294 field of view ? . The Leica costs a little less money too , but I hear that Swarovski has a excellent warranty service. I may still buy the Leica 10X25 if it is more compact .

      First of all decide what you want to use them for . Is it for travelling such as hiking, birdwatching or just to have around the house.
      Second go to authorised dealers and check them out to see what you think. You may love both of them.
      Alternatively you may end up going for the likes of a pair of Zeiss Terra ED for half the price. And with the remaining money buy something larger such as the Zeiss Terra 10x42. So you could have two pairs for the same money.
