      I agree! I had all the early Chicago albums in the early 70s and totally lost interest in Chicago when Peter and David Foster, for me, ruined the vib with all of the commercial, sappy songs. So now I’m 61 and am totally obsessed with Terry, Robert, Danny, the horn section, etc. I can’t get enough of Terry. His guitar solos and voice blow me away. Why was I not in tune with all of this in my young years? As a guitarist myself, I should have been! Well, I’m making up for lost time! ❤️

      I was 18. I was walking into class and a friend stopped and told me. I don't remember going to class. I was just heartbroken. Chicago was the background music for my growing up years. They kept going but it was never the same after that. It was 40 years ago today. Makes me feel old and sad. Rest In Peace.

    • @StevenCharlesJazz
      @StevenCharlesJazz 6 лет назад +4

      That's so true, I had only seen them with him once, thus was so sad and disappointed when I got to open a show for them at Aloha Stadium, in (where else) Honolulu, and he wasn't with them, as he had passed just a few months previous.... I got to hang out with them a good bit, being from Chicago, as well, we had a lot in common, and while the band still kicked butt, everyone knew no one could fill Terry's shoes, and it was quite obvious.
      What really hurts every day, is knowing how much incredible music we, and the world has missed out on. He, Jimi Hendrix, and Duane Allman, all leaving us far, far too early has been like losing a limb, or two. To think how few years they were in the public eye, yet all the great music they had done in that time, music that astounds to this day, only adds to their legendary status.

    Terry Kath, the finest guitarist and songwriter that ever blessed our lives! My age is 68 now, I was 14 (in 69,) when I first heard the band, (the CTA album). At 15 (1970) myself, and a very good friend and great organist, (his father was a minister, and he grew up playing the piano and organ,) a good lead guitarist and very good drummer, both from our high school, formed a band, I played bass, I could play 6 string but was nowhere near good enough to play lead and rhythm in a band. We played a lot of Chicago's song's, minus the horn section but the organ he had was decent at producing horn sounds. We played high school dances all over the area and in our senior year played and came in 2nd in a battle of the bands held in New Haven CT against guys that weren't in high school anymore. We were quite proud of ourselves to come in 2nd as teenagers against bands with guys in their 20's and mid 20's. Terry will always be my favorite guitarist and songwriter, it saddened me terribly at his passing. He had soo much more to give to us all and his voice was wonderful.

Terry was more a jazz cat, while Jimi was an innovator based on blues with some rock mixed in. They were both incredible. And of course we know that someone would eventually come along and play as well as Jimi and in many cases, better, (although, not the innovator Jimi was), and his name was Stevie Ray Vaughan, who in many ways, was even better than both Terry AND Jimi ... and THAT, from a guitarist of 58 years, for what it's worth.

    Terry Kath..was the only reason why I started playing guitar...I had the pleasure of meeting him back in the 70's..when Chicago played Bowen field house at eastern Michigan university..my brother was on the major events committee...he truly changed my life..and I will always cherish those moments..I'm still playing guitar at 62 years young..because of his love of music he will always stay near and dear to my heart...THAT BOY WAS BORN TO PLAY..!

    I just watched a documentary on Chicago on Amazon Prime. It was about 3 hours long , but packed with great Chicago music. Told the whole story and the tragic death of Terry Kath. Im about 60 years old and didn't have any idea about what all happened. All I remember is Peter taking lead vocals. It is a must see. Blessing to all who read this in Atlanta Ga
