Oh yum!!! looks delish. Some of the food I have heard of as my Mum and Dad went to China last year. My parents LOVED it. Said it was amazing. They did bring back some interesting 'candy' which wasn't up my ally. lol. but my Mum swears by the tea. Rekons it detoxes her body.

Ok huge question guys.. Is there a huge chinese community in auckland? A chinatown or a plaza? Seems like new zealand got lots and lots of good food i have never known!!
The think I really like about Auckland is that it's a super huge melting pot of different cultures. 20 years ago there was like no Chinese food but these days we are super spoilt with choice. It's awesome 👌 plus I've always been quite adventurous with trying everything ☺
Ayeee Peter, good to know you're from Shanghai. We visited last year and the food was fantastic. Would go back for all those dumplings and the Jian-Bing haha (Malie's favourite snack from Shanghai). That jelly dessert looks similar to the 'raindrop' cake we have here in Aus - yup, tasteless and gimicky imo. Those scallion noodles and XLB look hella good. Think you guys have convinced us to visit the North Island of New Zealand :)
Loads of awesome stuff on the north island! Definitely should visit and do a bit of a tour around. This year we're gonna do a bunch of content from various places around nz before we start heading off into Asia 😁👌 scallion noodles so underrated they are one of the best things ever flavour packed and look so simple.
We've never seen those Turnip cakes before, they look rather interesting 🤔. Oh man the Donald Duck mouths look sooo good! 🤤We never made it to Shanghai, but might have to try some of these next time we are in NZ.

Last time yen and I both went back there was 2012 when we got married my grandma couldn't come to New Zealand so we brought the wedding festivities to her and man did we eat a tonne hahahaha. Last time we were in Shanghai was 2012 after yen and I got married. Unfortunately my gran is too old to make it to our ceremony in New Zealand. So we brought the celebrations to her 😁 we're going again this year to hang out with her it's been way too long. China has really good vegetarian options. During my dad's era China was quite poor so a lot of famous dishes are made solely with veges. Also there are restaurants that are all vegetarian and make vegetarian meat too. they are very tasty 👌

Shanghai is one of the biggest cities in China so it's still considered Chinese food but they do have a bunch of pretty unique dishes that they're famous for like xiaolong bao (those soup dumplings in this video) ☺️ but yea very delicious food! Last year we went to Shanghai so you might come across that video soon and you can see all the incredible food there too 😍😁👍

Does it make a difference to the taste if it's cut in smaller pieces? Are we missing on something? Or it's a cultural practice? Also I would love to practice eating with chopsticks! From my limited perspective its a cultural thing a lot of Chinese families I know enjoy eating meals at a pretty quick pace without cutting things into bite sized pieces. Personally I find i enjoy it more that way too. But yen will always cut everything up into bite sized pieces 😁

Din tai fung even though the store was created in Taiwan the food itself is from Shanghai 😁👌 and you're right most likely eaten the style in other places but not realised because people like to feature menus with food from different parts of China 👌

So mandarin is the main language but Shanghai is a dialect and it sounds really different but it's very similar to mandarin. People from Beijing will again have their own dialect too based from mandarin.

Oh yum!!! looks delish. Some of the food I have heard of as my Mum and Dad went to China last year. My parents LOVED it. Said it was amazing. They did bring back some interesting 'candy' which wasn't up my ally. lol. but my Mum swears by the tea. Rekons it detoxes her body.

Ok huge question guys.. Is there a huge chinese community in auckland? A chinatown or a plaza? Seems like new zealand got lots and lots of good food i have never known!!
The think I really like about Auckland is that it's a super huge melting pot of different cultures. 20 years ago there was like no Chinese food but these days we are super spoilt with choice. It's awesome 👌 plus I've always been quite adventurous with trying everything ☺

Ayeee Peter, good to know you're from Shanghai. We visited last year and the food was fantastic. Would go back for all those dumplings and the Jian-Bing haha (Malie's favourite snack from Shanghai). That jelly dessert looks similar to the 'raindrop' cake we have here in Aus - yup, tasteless and gimicky imo. Those scallion noodles and XLB look hella good.

Loads of awesome stuff on the north island! Definitely should visit and do a bit of a tour around. This year we're gonna do a bunch of content from various places around nz before we start heading off into Asia 😁👌 scallion noodles so underrated they are one of the best things ever flavour packed and look so simple.
We've never seen those Turnip cakes before, they look rather interesting 🤔. Oh man the Donald Duck mouths look sooo good! 🤤We never made it to Shanghai, but might have to try some of these next time we are in NZ.

Last time yen and I both went back there was 2012 when we got married my grandma couldn't come to New Zealand so we brought the wedding festivities to her and man did we eat a tonne hahahaha. Going back this year again to visit her 😁 we needa cross check travel plans this year in case we can run across each other ✌

It's got so many flavours that the fishyness is pretty much masked. And yes Shanghai is a massive city both in population and in size should visit sometime 😁👌

I did not know you were from Shanghai Peter. How long since you were last there? And do you know if it's hard to be a vegetarian in China?
Last time we were in Shanghai was 2012 after yen and I got married. Unfortunately my gran is too old to make it to our ceremony in New Zealand. So we brought the celebrations to her 😁 we're going again this year to hang out with her it's been way too long. China has really good vegetarian options. During my dad's era China was quite poor so a lot of famous dishes are made solely with veges. Also there are restaurants that are all vegetarian and make vegetarian meat too. they are very tasty 👌
Thanks man! That's good to know. There is a chance we could end up in China this year. I'm trying for teaching jobs in the Middle East but so far no luck. My recruiter keeps sending me jobs for China but just holding out for the UAE at this stage.

Shanghai is one of the biggest cities in China so it's still considered Chinese food but they do have a bunch of pretty unique dishes that they're famous for like xiaolong bao (those soup dumplings in this video) ☺️ but yea very delicious food! Last year we went to Shanghai so you might come across that video soon and you can see all the incredible food there too 😍😁👍

Does it make a difference to the taste if it's cut in smaller pieces? Are we missing on something? Or it's a cultural practice? Also I would love to practice eating with chopsticks! From my limited perspective its a cultural thing a lot of Chinese families I know enjoy eating meals at a pretty quick pace without cutting things into bite sized pieces. Personally I find i enjoy it more that way too. But yen will always cut everything up into bite sized pieces 😁

So mandarin is the main language but Shanghai is a dialect and it sounds really different but it's very similar to mandarin. People from Beijing will again have their own dialect too based from mandarin.
