I’ve built daily reading into my schedule. 30 minutes a day. I always have 2 books on the go, one fiction and one non fiction. This makes it easier to do my 30 minutes a day cause I can choose the book that suits my mood that day.
I listen to a lot of audiobooks while I’m driving but don’t sit down and read a lot these days, it’s great to crunch the numbers last two books I read were the tattooist of auschwitz which is filming now for the tv series and the original dune film
I prefer audiobooks for fiction or biographical stuff but for the bulk of non fiction that I read I need the physical book for note taking. What have you been listening to lately?
Just finished the beastie boys book which was epic and has twenty narrators including ben stiller, jervis cocker, snoop dog, spike Jonze very entertaining and some absolutely bonkers stories… rather than reading I’m tending to watch a lot of RUclips videos to learn new skills and stay up on technology like AI such as Adobe firefly etc
I’ve just started hearing about that new Adobe tool, looks super interesting. Thanks for the recommendation, I will have to add that Beastie Boys one to the read list. Cheers mate
Christ! Id be lucky to read 5 books in a year I rekon! haha. I have mad ADD when it comes to reading, but ive dived into audio books a bit more. Im reading Profit First atm (physical). Tis a good read. For non fiction reads, do you take notes, highlight or page mark etc to absorb the content a bit more?
I know how you feel, I find it hard to focus a lot of the time also but what helps me is forcing myself into those longer sessions. Slowly the patience and attention builds up and it becomes easier. Profit First was an awesome read and helps me heaps with getting control over how the eBay revenue is distributed. For the notes, I highlight anything that resonates with me as I pass by it, use small stickies for sections/themes I think I will return to multiple times and make notes on the pages if I have a thought I want to capture. The goal is to come back a week or two later after I've finished the books to then summarise all the notes and highlights and filter it down to the key points or things I want to reference or remember in the future. There are some good videos on RUclips about how to do this if you google things like 'Ryan Holiday index cards', 'zettelkasten', 'second brain'. It depends on your purpose and intention with each book, I enjoy adding and building on my knowledge base plus I have a poor memory so that's what I like to do - but this approach is not for everyone. Thanks heaps for watching, would love to know how Profit First works for you when you start implementing it into your business.
@@DrewDTrott Yeah I can see me implementing some of the concepts in Profit First. Thats a good idea to use stickies. I often read heavy books and i feel like I forget parts of the concepts after a while. That would be a good way to be able to check back for a refresh. Oooh im going to look those up. sounds up my alley. Ive also heard of sites like "blinkist" that are supposed to give you the important ideas and themes of a book in like 15mins. That seems pretty good for a recap, although could probs just find the same thing free on youtube
I love a good summary blog before and after reading the book itself, but nothing compares to capturing your own thoughts and distilling them down to the most resonating parts.
How many books are you going to read this year?

That's awesome, having 2 books on the go at the same time is the way to go for sure. One for knowledge, one for escape.
Great video Drew. I'm going to pick up the app and get going!
Great to hear mate, hope you find it useful. Thanks for watching
