As a Cambodian American. I finally got my Khmer citizenship and Khmer passport. And I just recently bought a nice chunk of land in Siem reap to build a nice gated house with an elevator unit.
you can buy for around 10$ per sqm not far from the beach (maybe 15min) but you need to have patience to find that good deal. Many people selling now very cheap. But some ask way too much for sure. Of course you can buy also for less than 5k a ricefield plot of maybe 2000 sqm but it will be in the countryside and not connected to any road. Of course a land which is directly at a concrete road will be way more pricy even its in a rural area. Starting around 25$ probably to 500$ (per sqm!) if its near tourist spots like Siem Reap...
Her dream of America is sadly 20 years to old. That place is on the down turn and Cambodia is on the come up. In Asia they have this outdated view on the west. places like Paris and London hold a romantic notion for them but sadly based on what they once were not what they are now.

It’s very interesting to see the two guests talk about living in America and outside of it. Seeing the woman say she wanted to move to America was sad for me, because I am a poor person living here and I have no real opportunity because of my family’s generational poverty. I have made something of myself with what I had at a young age and even now, it is not enough for the things I value. For some, the things America offers are more valuable than their home. I wish her the best in her goals.
I’m so sorry to hear that. I really hope there will be a moment again where America starts really taking care of their people instead of playing playing political games and make the rich richer
