My guess is she probably thought that the argument should be between Danny’s parents. But you’re right she could’ve said again that she was only thinking of Danny’s safety. I'm guessing she wanted to stand by him as a united front when Sammy Jo was around.
Because if she proves that he's gay, the courts would automatically give HER custody - Claudia knows that.
