You said in the past couple of years Nikon fell behind in the category of hybrid cameras, which was surprising. Z9 was released 2 1/2 years ago at Christmas '21. It was the best hybrid upon release, recording up to 8k 30 RAW internally, and only got better (firmware soon added 8k 60 internal RAW recording). Z8 was the best small body hybrid on release 13 months ago offering everything the Z9 does. No other cameras have matched the Z8/9 as hybrid cameras.
I feel like people are just stuck thinking of the first iterations of the Z6/7, which had some good things but ultimately fell short of what Nikon is capable of (which they are now showing with the 9/8/6iii).
Just discovered your channel looking for some more videos about the z6iii. I'm not halfway through the video, but just wanted to say your photography is stellar. Exceptional shots and very inspiring! Liked and subsribed!
I ditched nikon a few years ago for the exact reason you mentioned. I noticed it was behind compared to what competitors were releasing. This was a much needed release Well done nikon 👏🏼
Awesome overview from one of my favorite creators! Thanks. Definitely upgrading to this before the summer is out. Then it's time to develop my color grading skills!
I’m returning mine. Just don’t like the grip/feel of it. I actually prefer my Zf with the Smallrig better, which has a lot of the same capabilities and where it doesn’t, I grab my Z9. Still think it’s a stellar move on Nikon’s point. If only they just made the grip more D750ish.
Tony Northrup tries to badmouth at Nikon every possible chance. His video about dynamic range was blown up. He tries to create insecurity among Nikon users or interested buyers. Look at his miserable "Nikon Zf Review". The comments on this review speak for themselves.
Long time Nikon user as well from D90 (first DSLR with video), D7000, D600, D810...almost jumped ship to Canon to get R5 or R6, but Nikon Z6 convinced me to stay on Nikon camp with the FTZ and my F-mount lenses. Got the Z9 when it was announced and i'm all in with Nikon Z system. Was waiting for the Nikon FF with articulating screen for video/vlog and smaller form factor than my Z9, Z8 didn't appeal to me as it's essentially Z9, although smaller still wanted the Z6 form factor. I was about to get Nikon ZF but decided to wait on Z6III. It is everything I was hoping for and more, had Nikon just made the Zf and made a normal looking body like the Z6/Z6II I would have been perfectly happy instead Nikon gave me essentially a baby Z9/Z8. Should arrive in a couple of days, Nikon USA shows "processing" but 24-120 f/4 lens already shipped, really excited!
I give the formulas next to the photos, that’s exactly how I edit them! I have a free preset on my site if you want to get an idea of my editing workflow also, there’s a tutorial included with it where I edit a few images 🙏
I received my Z6 III today, and after spending hours going through the menus and setting it up, I feel that they crammed too much into this camera. I feel that the Z6 III is aimed more towards the video shooter than the stills one. I plan to take it out for a test run tomorrow.
So if you feel that way, what’s missing from the photography side of it? I feel like Nikon is the one brand that’s putting emphasis on both photo and video and is on track to become the best hybrid cameras you can invest in…
1:05 slight correction to your statement there! Nikon fell behind since 2014 with A7ii or more obviously in 2018 with the launch of Sony A7iii. Mirrorless had officially announced itself as the better format going forward. So, Nikon fell behind 6-10 years ago and were playing catchup till today! 🤷♂️ I’m a former Nikon shooter since D700.
As a D810 user for many, MANY years, how do the raw files of the Z6iii compare in terms of dynamic range? I've tried the Z6ii and Z7ii and neither came close - not even in the ballpark. I realize the D810's sensor was one of the best DR sensors ever made, and I'm not expecting the same performance, but would sure like to hear it's better than the previous two offerings.
I can say the same about the Nikon D4S in terms of DR. In fact, I’m in the market now to get a D810 for the exact reasons you mentioned. The Z6 III will be my transition to mirrorless, but I currently love the film-like output of DSLRs, and I want the D810 for that 36 megapixel sensor and the details it provides. Would you recommend the D810?
@@AIP404 - If you take a raw file from both and underexpose by a good margin, then bring up the shadows - you'll see a big difference. I can shoot one shot real estate and landscape photos with the D810 and get really close to a good (not over-produced) HDR shot. Doing the same on any Nikon mirrorless pre-Z8/Z9/Z6iii - the file just doesn't handle it nearly as well.
Price difference is far to great to the z6ii for the real life difference , i can get the ii for 1799 € and the iii cost 2999€ at the same vendor both new.
I prefer small camera body and easy to carry around but Nikon still way too big with lens not a good option for me and no other option brands lenses choose from a lots down side
The ZFs IBIS was free floating when it was off and made „clunk“ sound when the camera was moved. How is it with the Z6-3? Is it locked when switched off?
sad this camera don't have a protection for the Sensor like z8 . Mirrorless cameras are very susceptible to laser damage and also to dust when changing lenses. None of my old DSLR have problems with lasers. And Now even my brand new Z6 II in one event got burn by laser . the sensor is too much time exposed.
Does any camera at this price point have a sensor shield? I don't there is, but then again only Nikon has a sensor shield for higher-end cameras. I think.
Smoothbrain comment. Of course it doesn't have a dedicated shield, the shutter assembly takes that space. Otherwise you're using the actual shutter blades as a debris shield. Sounds great!
Hope canon is ready to come out swinging with the r5ii. Because they need to actually provide some revolutionary improvements, otherwise their brand is officially just blowing away in the dust.
Oh they are great and have one of the best optical stabilisation if you use the rf lenses , and that is also the biggest problem , rf lenses are only canon ,a few sigmas rf-s coming , and the good lenses are the L ones and the prices are simply insane of those , have the R7 and was able to test the 50 f1,8 vs the 50 L , and using a compare program the L is 20% better but whopping 1250% more expensive ,and it’s one of the more moderatly priced L ones🤑
@@loboptluI was at a cross road once of going with Canon and decided not too, and the price of the good lenses weighed heavily on the decision. Why does it seem that Canon is slowing down?
@@loboptluThe lenses are why I didn’t buy into Canon. Z offers more for less and they all have weather sealing in full frame down the the $225 cheap ones. Canon forces you to buy L glass for weather sealing.
@@kalimarus i bought a sony a7riii after that ,much better choice of lenses and no effing lowpass filter, for my canon r7 i use the original canon adapter with my ef lenses ,works but defeats the OS advantage of 7 to 8 stops with rf lenses down to 5 ,sony a7riii has 5.5 , not as good as the a7rV with 8 all the time but price to abilities ratio is much better with 2000€ less than the a7rV.

Been waiting to see your review. I looked at the Nikon Z6III & since I like to compare I pulled the specs. I currently own a Nikon Zf and a Nikon Z6II with my Zf being my main camera. Between the Zf and Z6III, for stills there is little to no difference unless you are going to use it for sports or wildlife: slightly faster shutter speed and much larger buffer on the Z6III. If you plan to use it for video and are deciding between the two, spend the extra $500 on the Z6III. Based on specs alone, I have come to the conclusion that it is not worth the upgrade from the Zf. If I decide to stick to video (launched my first video under a different name yesterday), I would consider it as an upgrade to the Z6II. Now to convince Nikon to give me a rebate on my 6ii for a trade in.
It smelled right from the start but when he said brighter evf was awesome for watching at night i knew this is most probably paid video or he just doesn't know what he talkin' about lol
Thanks for watching! Stay tuned for the more long term video after I've used this more!

Good points.
Not to mention the Nikon ZF with incredible auto-focus as well.
In fact it's the opposite, the last couple of years were great for Nikon.

Nikon keeps giving and giving and more 3rd party support then that other brand 👍
Compared to Sony? I'm not sure
I think Nikon is going to sell a literal crap ton of these cameras, I can't wait to get my hands on one!
That's an absolutely exceptional set of photos you got.

Unfortunately, here in Canada, the Z6iii goes for $3400.00 (body only). Not such a great price for us! Australia in the same boat. 😂😂
Yep, AU$4,500!!
Love the look of the camera. Want the camera. Never paying that ridiculous price!

That's the right choice anyways, the Z6iii has almost a whole stop less dynamic range at base ISO compared to the ZF.
Sorry. Feel this is more inclined towards the sponsor angle.
Fantastic video, thanks for sharing you knowledge

If you do 10-bit h.265, is it 4:2:0 or 4:2:2? I'm hoping 4:2:0 as it's way easier to play on most computers.
