Clean packing material, recycling is fine, but it should be CLEAN! Don't use old newspaper for satin glass or chalkware type things. The problem with news print, is it gets on your hands, then you are unwrapping the item that can't be cleaned with "inked fingers". That irks me to no end. Use appropriate boxes, I've gotten swung vases in Cheez-it boxes. I was salty cause there were no Cheez-its in the box. And for the love of god, DON'T e6000 your box! I had that happen. It took me about an hour to open a box containing Viking teardrop candleholders. I was ready to smash the box by the time I got it opened.....ship how you want to receive an item. I've posted a few packing rants over the year...I need to do a reel on "how not to pack" lol...I'm not salty or anything....
I am a collector and seller of a certain dishware. When i buy them at auction, we use puppy pads to pack it in bins. its the best material to pack it in to get it home. but i wouldnt use it to ship in the mail. Thin foam, bubble and packing peanuts. Newspaper can transfer ink, puppy pads keep it clean and gives a little cushion without taking up as much room as bubble.
Was the encyclopedia an auction? Maybe he bid on multiple sets of encyclopedia's and ended up winning them all? Also, I got scammed as a buyer on a eBay lot of military patches about 10 years ago. The lot basically had one item that was worth $100 and another 19 patches thrown in as cheap $1 or $2 freebies with a "Buy it Now" of $100. I paid the $100, because I really wanted the main item worth $100, but when the package arrived the main patch was missing and only the cheap $1-$2 freebies arrived. I filed for a return and the seller challenged it so eBay back then had a mediation type process that basically decided what would happen. In the end, eBay decided since the lot had 20 items and since I claimed only 19 arrived I was to be given a 1/20th refund for the missing patch which was a $5 refund. So the seller basically made $95 by selling 19 junk patches worth about $19. Something we should all be aware of when buying a LOT on eBay and only one item in the LOT is valuable.
I was scammed on Ebay twice. Once with a New Coat with Tags and the original Garment Bag, It was $200.00 and sold for $50.00 What was returned without the Tags was a filthy Jacket was returned! The next was a new one with Tags. Returned with all the wrapping removed, peeling. The free items, that I usually send were kept!
You can reuse liquor/wine boxes but have to remove or completely blot all of the liquor markings, got a lecture about this from the post office 25 years ago. Wine is often shipped (to consumers) in sturdy, long and narrow boxes that are ideal for odd shaped long, narrow items. It is plausible someone might be offended if you reuse a liquor/wine box, really, really unlikely but people are nuts nowadays.
The buyer was such a busy person, yet it was somehow more convenient to get a second box and send a huge lot of books back... rather than open the box and see if they were damaged? Suspicious all around!
27:53 Fun fact: you CAN re-use alcohol boxes for shipping USPS. They even address it in a FAQ their website, “Recycling and re-using packaging is good for the environment, but it has to be done correctly to be sent through the mail…Re-used boxes and containers that once held liquor, wine, beer, cosmetics or cleaning supplies must have markings completely removed or obliterated.” Just turn the box inside out and you’ll be fine. I’ve done it many times without issue. All that said, I’m a sucker because I’m pretty sure this topic on shipping was included precisely for the reason that acts as chum for a posting frenzy in the comments, and here I am, posting. Fine, y’all got me, but if you’re going to state something as a fact, you ought to know that it is true. That is, to borrow a word y’all used in this subject, the ‘appropriate’ thing to do.
I used to use plastic grocery bags a lot for padding. Most people were fine with it, but eventually I wanted to look more professional and started going with packing paper. I do in a pinch still use the bags if I have to get something out and am out of paper.
Criminal buyers know that fraudulent activity is legal on Ebay. Best option is being a top rated seller, refunding half sale price, and claiming losses on taxes.
I use Pirate ship exclusively. We have it linked directly to Pirate Ship. It’s very easy to integrate so I never have to copy over tracking. In most cases, it is cheaper than eBay shipping. On few occasions when the package is large, eBay can be a little cheaper. Very rarely though. Also, if it is going to Porto Rico it’s easier to ship through eBay. Fun video! Love seeing what you guys find in the great white north. 😂
Thanks so much for the video. Did eBay supply you with the affidavit or did you have to find one somewhere else and send it to them? Thanks, this is extremely useful information to know. If an outside affidavit is needed, I want to get a source for them now to have on hand just in case. Thanks so much, Greg
That have ebay call you thing is NOT new at all. I've been doing that for years now. It amazes me seeing 15 year sellers not know this. Adhdave was just complaining that he couldn't talk to someone on the phone lol
Yeah but where's the scam? It sounds like the man was stressed out and returned the wrong books. He didn't lie, he just got confused. I agree with eBay because it showed some compassion for the man working two jobs and dealing with a sick person in the family too.
I think if you two sat across from each other while filming these types of videos, it would be less distracting to the viewer when you look at each other during conversation. Since I am a viewer who is directly in front of you, it becomes rather distracting when both of you are looking to the left or right at each other. You both have very engaging & interesting conversation, and I am intrigued by what is going on, but the look aways throughout the video make me feel like a third wheel. Please don't take this as a negative comment, I really enjoyed the video and this was my constructive criticism.
Yesterday I got an email that the silver $50 item wasn't in the package at the same time her husband had a heart attack. I didn't engage, just said file a claim with the post office. It's against the law to use the box, but alcohol boxes are GREAT. Use them to move
Depend: OMG! No!!! If I were the customer seeing that, I would scream and run away. And when I got back I'd be telling everybody who would hear, "you won't believe what I got in the mail today." (bad) . What works very nicely for glass pieces that I'm stocking up on now is that cut kraft paper stuff on a roll that you stretch it out and cover the item. It doesn't actually conform, but it makes a general protective shape around the item. And if you use two layers, that thing has as nice a cushion as you'd get with bubble wrap, + being recyclable. Fill the rest of the box with some sort of dunnage that's not going to settle (as newspaper or packing paper might), and Bob's yer uncle! It is safe to ship, and makes for an extremely nice presentation when the customer opens it. (Probably costs less per shipment than a package of Depends. Depending on which brand of Depends you use, natch. . eBay sellers with a store: remember that you get $XX.XX in free shipping supplies every quarter (the amount depends on the size of your store) so why not get official eBay boxes - it's FREE! And believe it or not (I tested this on a coast-to-coast shipment there and back) if you have an air popper, you can use air-popped popcorn! Make sure there's no grease, no salt, etc. I tested that by popping the corn and then making little "filler bags" of popcorn to fit around my items to protect during shipping. Just be sure and mark the bag that it's NOT for consumption. That way you get nearly "Free" biodegradable filler for your box! **You could also wrap the item in something "sealed" and then fill the box with popcorn. The goal is not to get popcorn flecks all over your item.

I'm old and jaded and do what I want. Lol

Yikes! Thanks for sharing your story.
The inserts / dividers from wine boxes are nice for putting in my own box to ship glasses. I still wrap each glass in bubble.

eBay is training these people to scam. Sad.

I’ve used Christmas wrapping paper before but never diapers or used clothes😂
The problem with newsprint, colored printed paper is the possibility of transferring the print to the products.
I use puppy pads to separate my glass platters for storage but would never use them for shipping to a customer.
eBay for Business Gone - Just another decline in eBay support, as time goes by.
Thank you both for sharing. Prayers you have a blessed day in the name of Jesus Christ.

Please not without warning. Lots of people are contact and airborne allergic to popcorn.
