Dude 100% for me too my gawd especially after 2020 ended on such a socially fucked note and throughout the year the whole world just fell further down the rabbit whole mmmm good stuff 10/10
Damn this was before the Twitch Stream. That stream was one of the beat performances I’ve ever seen. Great to hear about Jami figuring that all out. Code Orange is really a one of a kind band, dude.
They need to perform on bugger stage now. I can't bare to see my boy Joe behind since he was Always on the front scaring people and Playing bass before Jami decided to leave the drums 😂
So cool you get to talk to Jami. He and his band are doing awesome things for metal in terms of extremity and bringing industrial metal to a new audience. Along with Mick Gordon’s Doom 2016 soundtrack and Vein, Code Orange is doing great things for the scene.
I always regarded Code Orange's "attitude" as a band (taking themselves too seriously, etc) as part of their brand and their marketing. The stern, no-nonsense demeanor fits their whole aesthetic, from a sonic as well as a visual perspective. I think it's a good strategy, and a lot of their contemporaries don't really take a lot of huge risks like this in terms of their presentation, so it sets them apart. These guys are pushing a sound that I've wanted to be welcome in metalcore since the early 2000s, and doing a real good job too. I say it often to friends and have for a while "I wanna be in a band thats basically Pig Destroyer by way of Orgy". Grindcore from the future. Playing quality intriguing extreme music, with the aesthetic and sonic palette of some late 90s - early 00s cybergoth rave night shit.
They alwayyysssss push. It’s insane to not see that. One of the only artists across any genrea that devote and detail every single visual, clothing, album, social, all of it. They make everything themselves, it’s unreal honestly. Artists with millions of dollars backing them don’t do anything even a fraction as interesting
the twitch stream from them was gnarly. Would def tune in to more shows like that. I think theres hella room for technology to bridge the gaps we have to put up in times like these. Much love for one of the hardest bands out there
I haven't had an artist that I've been a huge fan of. This album is far and beyond the most played in my day. This album is literally perfect right now. Thank you guys.
In a song-per-song basis, I'd say it deserves a 7-8, but man, the piece as a whole is at least a solid 9. It's been a while since I've last listened to an album this cohesive. Of course that's my say... Not familiar enough with Fantano to understand his criteria, i'm here for code orange lol
Much respect to this band for doing what they love the way they see fit, for themselves. Love or hate them you have to give them that. Great band for the future of metal.
I absolutely love underneath i'm pretty sure it's gonna be my album of the year unless unleash the archers manage to top their last album apex but we'll see
Great interview melon, these guys are my favorite current band and it's great to hear Jami talk about his creative process in such a conversational way. Keep up the great content!
He's the drummer and the vocalist? Interesting to see how that works live. I know Chelsea grin has a drummer/vocalist aswell. That's multi tasking right there.
Fantastic band, i’ll never be more grateful to Jacob Bannon for putting me onto COK back when they had the kids. Now they’re out and taking control of it all, fuck man this album was incredible. They deserve everything they’ve been hunting for.
What Jami said from 16:50 onwards is the BIGGEST mood, some of the best fun I get out of heavy music is breakdowns and heavy riffs etc. but it's so difficult to find examples of that nowadays that don't either bore me to tears or make me cringe.
Great interview. Really cool to hear so much explained about the writing and recording process, especially for such a technologically-oriented band, very interesting and insightful. Cheers! xox
