    People really shouldn’t be shaming you for celebrating getting the diagnosis! Getting a diagnosis is not the same as getting a disorder/mental illness, it’s just a confirmation that you actually have something you’ve had going on for a while. And it’s often such a relief to have an official explanation for why you’ve been struggling. And nobody should be forced to treat that like a death sentence, especially when it can be the way to healing! (Though of course no one Has To celebrate either).
    I often joke about my autism diagnosis “anniversary” and talk about my mental health issues in light hearted ways, and it’s really so helpful, so I really hope you don’t let people shame you for how you talk about your own mental health and diagnoses. Much love! And congrats! 💖💕✨

      @@keylimetea Faking is obviously terrible. But while I do encourage anyone who can get a professional diagnosis to do so, there are still many reasons why that might not be possible for some. And medical professionals can be fallible. So I don't think we should write off self diagnosis completely! It can be an important tool to understand oneself and we all know our own brains best! But I understand your sentiment.

    while i would ADORE a series of meet the alters videos, i only want them when each person is comfortable with there’s, if that makes sense? i feel like sometimes people get in their head that everything has to come out at once, rather than letting things just exist when they wish to! i just want everyone to continue having the upmost comfort i suppose! i’m so happy and proud of and for you all!!!

    • @EmmaGodLovesTruth95
      @EmmaGodLovesTruth95 2 года назад +27

      I don't mean to come across as preachy and I'm sure you didint mean any harm by saying this; but just FYI I'm not sure meet the alters videos are actually healthy for persons with D.I.D. especially new systems, becuase it can be harmful for strangers to simply refer to/talk about alters. This could possibly call them out when it's not appropriate, or at worst scare/harm them. You never know what a stranger might do on the internet. Some may not know that D.I.D. is created during actual experiences of severe suffering/trauma/abuse; torture even. It is the coping mechanism used by the human mind in the most severe cases of trauma, always started in early childhood. Some people might not mind introducing their alters, but I say this in case someone is not sure that sharing the names and personalities of their alters would be healthy or not. I'm sure it would be a very personal decision.

      How come everybody magically gets a whole bunch of alters with names and backstories? Somehow it feels like an add-on, like people are kinda socially forced to make it all so coherent. How a person who didn't have alters with names and two week after a diagnosis, suddenly they have a full show put together and can make them come out on call with no memory issues.. I really don't understand this stuff much

      @@peggysue1725 I don't understand what you mean? It sounds like you view parts as add ons. We've existed for years some of us all of our life so I don't know why you'd expect we'd know anything less then our host about our past.
      Basically what I'm saying is you are detecting parts finally getting to share things about themselves not the invention of any new material. A lot of systems don't have much luck communicating at first (and we didn't either) but, when we did meet new(ly discovered) parts they tended to throw up a bunch of stuff about who they are because they've literally been waiting their whole life to talk about it.

    Honestly, I was scared when you came out with DID diagnosis because our community has been so full of people spreading misinformation and generally sensationalising and I thought this would be another youtuber exploiting DID for views. But actually I really relate to what you've been saying about co consciousness and the confusion and fear. Obviously people don't have to perform their trauma in order to be valid but this was refreshing compared to a lot of the "switch caught on camera videos" that seem to miss the point of what DID is and feel more stigmatising! Anyway, thanks for being open and proving me wrong, best to you!

With that out of the way - honestly my favorite content of yours has been the mental health related stuff. I feel like people have this idea that everyone has this sort of chorus of alters who are going to let you, your therapist, family/ friends/partners and/or social media followers know of their existence all at once. Or otherwise that one or more of them are knowingly or unknowingly fronting (in a functionally or dis-functionally multiplicity way) for a big chunk of the time, leading to frequent/severe dissociative amnesia. Sometimes it’s really cryptic and very covert for a long time and you may only have a few alters that can or will let you know they’re there (or even give ambiguous evidence of their existence) and even then only under rare circumstances sometimes. It can be full of false starts and I think alters that have had bad experiences being overt with respect to you or people outside the system early on in your life and from time to time can be very much convinced that being overt is a bad idea for the current/typical main fronter or for the system as a whole.
    However, if you share all of your memories with one or more not particularly distinct “versions” of yourself, with very similar tastes, views, mannerisms, etc. It might not be DID or even OSDD-1a, to put it very conservatively and mildly. I don’t want to tell anytime what they or have or what describes them, but It might just be a mood or it’s symptoms of BPD or something else. Same thing goes for dissociative amnesia and dissociative fuge.
    In all such cases, it is worth considering as a possibility, but people should keep an open mind, avoid the need to slap a certain label on it/yourself, and seek professional guidance and expertise and not try to push their own thinking or treatment in the DID or OSDD direction exclusively.

    As someone who has autism who was only recently diagnosed as an adult, it would TOTALLY make sense if you were to happen to have both autism and DID (and PTSD and generalized anxiety disorder). Things are especially difficult to cope with as an autistic person, so if you had trauma on top of that, it might push it further if that makes sense?
