    Ray Skillman has built something of a multi-dealership empire in Central Indiana over the past three decades. Anyone paying attention to local television in Indianapolis during that time would have seen Skillman’s advertisements and remembered his catchy tagline, “Where we stack ‘em deep and sell ‘em cheap.” Well … the tagline worked as the Ray Skillman name is now on dealerships representing 10 different makes.
    While this is an impressive story of the success, automotive enthusiasts Ray and his son Bill validate their true “car guy” credentials with their vast collection of vintage cars. Housed inside an amazing facility at Ray Skillman Collector Cars in Indianapolis are a rotation of approximately 100 desirable cars at any one time. One look and there can be no doubt that Ray and Bill have spent considerable time and effort on this endeavor.
    The Skillmans have decided it is time to rotate out a select portion of the vehicles, giving a shake at some of their fine vintage cars right from their showroom floor. Ray Skillman has been building his collection for more than 20 years, and almost every car has undergone an exacting nut-and-bolt restoration by expert craftsmen. Ray Skillman Collector Car Sales has about 175 vehicles on display at its 65,000-square-foot climate controlled facility located behind his Ford dealership in Greenwood, Ind. In addition to the collector cars, the showroom features Sprint cars driven by A.J. Foyt and Mario Andretti, as well as 1950s and ’60s memorabilia, including restored gas pumps, Coca Cola items, and multiple neon signs and displays.

    Worked at that very ford dealership and live a short 5 minutes away In southern Greenwood. My neighbor is Ray’s Granddaughter Ashley! What a great family and great service they provide to the community. He’s funded countless projects at schools around the area and clubs in those schools.
    Best yet, this museum is free to the public, and Ray will come down and talk to you about cars as long as you want If he’s there!

      I will also add, his black Buick riviera he had custom done by his craftsmen is my favorite car in the entire collection. I don’t know if he still has it there or not, but it was one sweet ride. The black and red interior with the black paint and black wheels on a rivie is bar none!

    Awesome collection, on the Corvettes, just to be more knowledgeable he could've pointed out which one was a L88 427, was no 1983 corvette, just one test car in museum that didn't get crushed. And 63 vette only split window year, other than that, fantastic collection. 👍

    The Thunderbird blue T-bird is a 1955 (first year) not 1965

    • @RM-dz8kr
      @RM-dz8kr Год назад

      I was actually correcting myself when I originally called the Red Thunderbird a 1960 which is actually a 1965. You can then hear me talk about the 50's models. Apologies for the misunderstanding. Obviously there is a complete body style difference between 50's & 60's

    What is it with Americans and art? So many ugly machines, too large, too heavy, too many curves, trying too hard to be beautiful and look kitsch . This collection just shows that no amount of money can buy good taste.

    • @joshuas8258
      @joshuas8258 Год назад

      Or yours is lacking. Most of these machines are absolutely beautiful. Go stick to the boring soulless SUV you prob drive and troll on another video if classic cars aren’t your thing
