- I'll take any excuse to deploy Vaike and Donnel. And honestly Yarne is looking pretty good!
I'm playing the entirety of Fire Emblem Awakening for the Nintendo 3DS! This game came out when Fire Emblem as a series was on the brink of death, and was intended as a last hurrah. Instead, it ended up bringing a lot of newer fans and put the franchise back on the map. The game is notable for having a very elaborate romance system: you can pair almost any male and female character to change the class and skills of their offsprings. I'm allowing my Patrons to decide my pairings for me, and I'll play the game in such a way that I can showcase as many kids and chapters as I can.

Yarne Paralogue means we're recruiting Yarne, believe it or not. So I'll cover him and his mom. In Awakening and Fates, Beast characters use a naming scheme of fabrics and textiles.
Yarne is the Middle English spelling of yarn, a material used for knitting and weaving. His Japanese name (シャンブレー) is officially romanized as Chambray, a variant of Cambric fabric, a very fine and dense fabric, comparable to denim originating from the French commune of Cambrai. Honestly, I'm surprised they didn't call him Batiste, another word for Cambric fabric with French origins.
Panne is a variant of crushed velvet. The word itself is of French origins. Her Japanese name (ベルベット) is officially romanized as Velvet, a common woven fabric. She may have also been named in reference to The Velveteen Rabbit, a British children's story about a toy rabbit.
Gyral is the name of the General boss. Gyral is an English word meaning 'Moving circularly or spirally; gyratory; whirling.' This may be in reference to the heavy armor of the Stonewall Knights. The name may instead be continuing the clothing materials idea of the Taguel and references gyra, an embroidered border on a robe. His Japanese name is ジラル. This seems to be an alternative way of writing the name Gerard, a Germanic name meaning 'brave spear'. I've also seen a Japanese leather company called Leatherwork Zeral that uses the same katakana for writing the name. However, I know nothing of the size or recency of this company, so I cannot be certain it is the intended reference here.
Dalen is the name of the other boss of the chapter. The name Dalen means 'valley', as comes from a Germanic language (some sources claim it to be Norwegian). Dalen as a word means 'to descend; to drop' in Dutch. His Japanese name is ディン, commonly romanized as Din, an Arabic word meaning 'religion; way of life'. I cannot find anything else for him.
BONUS ROUND: Boss kills went to Kjelle, who we've already covered, and Robin, who's etymology is way to complicated and will be saved for the last episode. So I'll leave with this - The Kjeller Axe! Kjeller is actually the Norwegian word for a basement or cellar. I guess when you get hit with this axe, you're being sent to the metaphorical basement? It sounded more threatening in my head...

So I was reading this guy's question from a long time ago asking where to get Nosferatu because he forgot to stockpile on it. And instead of answering a few people were like well why have dark and then started talking about other units when he wasn't asking that he was asking they just wanted to put in their two cents.. even though it was like 8 or 9 years ago I was still going to comment on it but then I seen a comment that struck every note that I was going to say... And well I think it was from you it was like 9 years ago in the user's name is the same as your RUclips name.. this can't be a coincidence is this you do you remember this .. by the way I'm not the original poster I'm just saying I was going to comment on it and I was going to say pretty much the same thing you did but when I seen your comment I didn't because you hit every detail of what needed to be said .. remember this...
"Why care? He's asking a question, not asking whether he should use dark. Way to be helpful. Maybe he's using the Stone glitch to teach his Bishops Darks so he can break through the tower without needing to heal. Handy on the last floor.
Anyway, if I have to go by intuition, I'd say the RNs for the contents of the chests are rolled before the map, not when you open the chest. It might be when you end the last map, it might be when the map starts, and it might even be when you start doing the ruins, though I doubt the latter. The only way to figure it out is through testing. I think burning RNs before killing the last enemy on the previous floor will do the trick.
I'd recommend finding which map has the shortest way to the first possible Nosferatu chest too. Saves you some repeating"

I did this paralogue with a considerably weaker army on my first playthrough still chose to fight both armies because, both these guys suck. Still ROFLSTOMPED these jerks. Fun times.
It's the only thing Robin knows for real.
The base stats of the child units take into consideration the current stats of the parents at the time you play the paralogue, so Kjelle had such high bases because Vaike was so high leveled
Honestly, I always fought both armies as well, even on Lunatic. They are both problems and the items are too nice to pass up.
As for Yarne, no idea why he's hated. He's a coward, but still fights on the front lines and even his supports reflect that he fights even after being scar by a world every everyone is dead, and he's the last of a race.
I like how the chapter tells you it lied in the prep screen when you try to go against both armies. "Wait wait wait, it was a lie, we have POSSIBLY more enemies. Are you SURE you want to fight both? Last chance"
I mean if I was a rabbit I'd be fearful too

(radiant dawn/feh spoilers) Best part about that silly general charge animation is the black knight einherjar just has a robin made to look like zelgius & you'll just have this highly respected general from tellius just fall flat on his face in black awakening armor XD
I always fought both armies in this paralogue. Imo, it was easy to recruit Yarne, and hey, free experience for my army, I'm not willing to pass up that.
I think part of the reason people dislike Yarne is because he spends most of his support chain accusing his father of being unfaithful to Panne. It's supposed to be funny but it's really repetitive and not especially endearing, even if you can understand his frayed thought process. And obvs people would dislike this support chain even more if they married Panne since it's basically 3 convo's worth of Yarne accusing the player of being a sleaze bag.
In my first through Yarne’s father was Virion so I got a chuckle out of it.

I love Yarne, and he was always a beast, quite literally, for me
I found Yarne charming. My version was next to useless as he had an unpromoted, RNG-screwed Lon'qu for his dad, but he was always fun to play with even though I never managed to pull much viability out of him. But unlocking his supports was always fun. Too bad he also inherited getting RNG-screwed...

As someone with a strong opinion on who to pair Laurent with: Noire. There is no better option. That S support.

The strange thing is that laurent himself is really not that great. It's just that the path through darkmage, with it's skills in conjunction with nosferatu is so stupidly not playtested that everybody can make it work.
Best Pairings for characters that joined in this video:
Yarne: He is a character that gets plenty of hate from the community because they say he sucks. I'm going to sound like a pompous elitist saying this but everyone is wrong because they don't know how to use him. He is best as a Hard support unit.
Pretty easy to pair him up because his stats are God like (Can easily get as good stats as gen 3 Morgan) plus the only difference you really have is to use Hex, Anathema or Prescience, Hit Rate +20. Out the 3 Hard Support 2nd gen bois he is the worst Mage but can still be useful as a mage. Really it doesn't matter what pairing you have for him as long as he is a Berserker for physical units and Sage for magical units.
My favorite pairing of all the game is to have Yarne's dad as Virion to give him the best stats plus he can be a physical and magical hard support to your needs and have him paired with Robin. Super viable and has plenty of flexibility so you don't have to worry about building Robin a certain way. Did I mention that because of Yarne, Panne, Virion having awesome stats gives Morgan Super Saiyan awesomeness? Best Morgan you can have and his stats are disgusting. You get a great pairing for Robin without setting up builds ahead of time and you get the best Morgan in the game. What else do you want?

When I played Awakening recently, I went into Barbarian and then Berserker, very effective combat unit. I wouldn’t blame you for going to Merc first to get arms thrift though, that is a very nice skill.

The easy way to get yarne out is to have him simply walk down to the team, possibly pairing into someone. He can also pair with his mother if she is alone and strong enough, or to get her out.

Maybe you won’t see this but I just realize something interesting, I’m almost 100% certain, based on my gameplay and supports, that Laurent is a masochist, don’t know if is 100 true, but is my feeling
Your Laurent is literally what my Henry is, though I don't believe Henry's Speed is as good as Laurent in the long term. Nosferatu in general is just so broken in Awakening. Everytime I forge Nosferatu tomes, I name them NosBroken.
As Stonewall Knights genereal said, "Too Strong... Impossible!" and Noodle once again gains a Str level up with its Strenght Bane. Yeah, it should be impossible to him to have so much Strenght.

I just felt bad because you two got your hopes up every enemy phase that involved The Vaike.
I’m not sure if Mekkah or Raisins mentioned it, but I think the biggest reason to fight both armies (aside from bonus exp or whatever) is that I believe if you side with one or the other, you only get two of the four houses (two of them will close).
Dont forget to give a forged Imposing Axe to Kjelle as a heirloom from Vaike :)
