I don't think so, I am Shanghainese and I learned English. Our payment are all online including metro, Alipay and wechart pay are all around us, we never take wallet but mobile phone to pay everywhere...
@@Manhattan-painting sorry, I'm just sharing my experience, no one spoke English to us, only through an online translator. and the metro was cash only. maybe you have local payment systems, but foreigners only have to pay in cash, and literally impossible to find an ATM at the airport. 🙈
I am in Shanghai right now, following your video I spotted many wonderful places that I never thought I would visit. Thank you for creating such great venues for the video for us.
I highly recommend the Shanghai Museum (East branch). It is a large white rectangular building. It is free. It is one of the most impressive museums i have been. There are people who wipe the glass every 5 min so fingerprints wont obstruct your view. Going there made me realised that China is more advanced than most western countries
@@markylon hard to say, I'm spending 3 months in Beijing and was in Shanghai for 4 days. From what I've seen Beijing and Shanghai can both have an authentic traditional feel as well as a big city like feeling, however Beijing has more of the traditional and shanghai has more of the big city stuff...so it'll depend on what you're looking for. Either way, would highly recommend both. One thing tho, maybe we were just unlucky but a lot of the streets we passed by while in Shanghai smelled like sewage. One time (late at night), there was even a working team opening up an access to the sewage and I felt like throwing up. But again it may just be our bad luck during those 4 days. ...... Bottom line, do both and add Chengdu on your list while you're at it
Just flew back from Shanghai for a holiday. It's a truly mesmerizing city with possibly the best skylines in the world. But 3 days is enough. Day 4 onwards weren't as exciting.
Yes, it's open to the public. You can buy tickets on the ground floor of the building to enter the observation deck on the 118floor. And there is a cafe on the 119th floor.
MetroMan China is a pretty good app for getting around. That and Didi is probably all you need in terms of transportation. For mapping I've always used Amap. Pretty easy interface and you can also check metro routes to your destination and call online taxis in Amap. Hope this helps😊
@@laistahir I think if you study the history of the buildings and pay attention to the details on the buildings, you won’t say it’s nothing to see. There are French Concession and UK/US concession that has different styles of architecture. Very unique. Enjoy a cup of coffee and walk under the trees, it’s definitely chill in Shanghai. Like Xintiandi is technically French Concession area.
Yeah it does work. However I recommend to download the Ali pay app and connect your visa with the app which is then accepted almost everywhere in shanghai
yeh ive been to tokyo, taipei and bangkok and i think shanghai was the worst of them all, its not bad but if you want to travel and backpack theres much better places, tokyo is cool and futuristic, taipei is cute and like a cheaper version. bangkok is wild and dirty, but shanghai is like a mixture of them all and isnt unique, its just a big city
As a backpacker, you should not be in big cities in China. China is not really a good place for people with limited budget. Begging is illegal. Sleeping in the public gets you detained.
I just came from there. Was there for 6 days. Didn't really like it. Didn't dislike it. There's nothing fascinating about it because it's just a copy of Hong Kong. Why they felt the need to copy HK is incomprehensible. The metro is efficient but one thing annoyed me. If you've bought a ticket and wanted to get off one stop before the original destination, they won't let you out. You have to get off exactly on the station that you selected when you bought the ticket. It makes no sense.
Whatever. Shanghai is so much better than hongkong. The former French concession alone - where do you even find that kind of tree-lined tranquility and quaint poshness in hk? Also Shanghai is so much more cleaner and has much more history than hk.

I guess we can't say it's same as HK. hong Kong is an Urban, charismatic City and Shanghai is a futuristic mega City. Both have their charms😎
