IMHO Mike Patton is one of the greatest living vocalists. Angel Dust is a 10/10. His range and diversity have always grabbed me. My brother and I jammed to FNM when we were young. Then was reintroduce to Mike when Tomahawk opened for Tool in '02. You should check out Fantomas too. It's Mike with King Buzzo from the Melvins and Dave Lombardo from Slayer. The have whole album where they play horror movie themes like Rosemary's Baby and Night of the Hunter. Also his record label Ipecac Records has some insanely good bands too.

I saw Mike Patton in Mr Bungle a few weeks ago. Mike and the band absolutely killed it. They played mostly from their "Raging Wrath Of The Easter Bunny" album, but there were a few songs from earlier Bungle and Mike Patton side projects and various little interludes. So it was a journey of chaotic and frenetic thrash with interludes of noise experimentation, and huge tonal shifts towards swing and jazz and incredibly earnest pop covers. It was amazing.

The amount of projects Mike Patton has been a part is insane…he definitely puts on a voice for majority of the songs in this album, as he does in others but you also get to hear his real voice in other albums/projects…I just love how all over the board he is vocally and musically! He has an incredible range! I wasn’t lucky enough to see FNM, Tomahawk, Fantomas, or Mr. Bungle, which are some of his other bands that are my favs, but I did see him in Peeping Tom years ago with my dad…I was standing right next to Mike at a crosswalk outside the venue and at the time he was my idol so I was too afraid to say anything so I just stood in awe! 🤣

the title track from this album is still their very best work ( _The Real Thing_ )
besides that, Mike Patton was really and truly put on this earth to cover _Easy_ , and your life is not complete until you've heard it.
also, hipster take: _King for a Day_ is secretly their best album. anything from that album would be quite swell.

I wouldn't say calling "King for a Day" their best album is a hipster take.... I'll second that sentiment, & I ain't no hipster! LOL It's the sweet spot where they're still young enough to have that natural energy to the thing, but becoming mature enough to have some great compositions. Great album. :)

More Mike Patton? From this album you'll get loads of people recommending The Real Thing or From Out of Nowhere, on the very real grounds that they're great songs. Falling to Pieces probably shows off a little more of his... range? Ability? Or you could try Everything's Ruined from Angel Dust (again, you'll probably get lots of recommendations for Midlife Crisis instead).
Can't help with the Mr Bungle recommendations - everything of theirs I've heard has been batshit crazy pants mayhem. The last I heard they had Scott Ian (from Anthrax) and Dave Lombardo (from Slayer).

I'll never forget seeing Mike Patton beat the hell out of a mannequin that looked like Adolf Hitler on the Arsenio Hall Show to the solo of this song at the tender age of 5 years old. Never seen anything like that before or since on a TV show during a musical performance. From that point on, I knew music was my "thing", and that this band was my favorite.

I think this was one of the first big songs to combine rap and rock. But MP is truly a man of 1000 voices. I think you would like Midlife Crisis by FNM. Or something with Tomahawk. Or maybe something with Mondo Cane? Totally agree about talent/practice, it's a pett peeve of mine. I almost see it as an insult when (mostly Americans) say "Oh he's so talented!", disregarding all the hard work that lies behind it.

I got into Faith No More via a buddy in high school. Went over to his house one day and he was blasting their 1992 album ‘Angel Dust’. I just started grooving right along with him. And when it comes to Mike’s vocal style, he does sound very different on that ‘92 release than here. Whether through training, experience or both, I don’t know. But I love that album, this band, and Mike is a very unique vocal beast.

    • @SoulSingerDiscovers

Yeah of the scant amount I’ve seen I believe him to be one of the very few instances of genius vocalists. Yesss, Mel, my young dudette and soulmate,
that time, on the third day after ...
a looong time ago, this was simple THE shit in terms of crossover before Numetal came up, metal mixed with hip hop, in the good tradition of what Aerosmith did, or Anthrax with Public Enemy, but in one band, pushing out THIS video, that inspires you to take some shrooms or el essdeee so you can be quite as disturbingly epic as these guys. But of course you don't because you can just go to the store and buy their albums and listen to them over and over and over again. Yeah, the old days, where the King Queen wasn't even born, right?
Mike Patton. Yes, being confident would be a monstrous understatement for what he has. He is as expressive as a long distance thermonuclear rocket. And if he goes off all limits live, someone would never dare to say he is outright crazy and off, but you always want to believe he is just in an artful rush that you probably do not understand fully enough. Talking about confidence, y'a know. ...
Oh, and the behnd. Of course also: epic. Song: epic. Video: epic. Humor: epic. Seriousness - also epic. I mean, it was a serious new amalgamation of styles that was not there before.
    Reaction: also epic.
You see, these guys infect everything with their epicness.
Now, I will have an epic glass of coffeinated soda, an epic cigarette, and an epic sleep and resurrection tomorrow.
Praise the day, the music, in general, good food and drinks, whatever else you like to have and do, and see you in the insane asylum for people like us, that you created. One of us had to do it. I am glad it wasn't me. Puh. All these maniacs. I mean, look at me...
Oh, and teh twang; Nearly forgot to mention. That time, the twehng was very useful in every loud rehearsal room full of weirdos. and Mike Patton wouldn't be him if he would not take the extra mile to beat everyone with his, just for the sake of "I can" and irony and taking nothing serious. You know, like I wrote about expression above ...
An artistic or drug related choice or both? Who knows. Who want to know? Doesn't matter.
    Best regaaards!
    Happy celebration days!
    Cheers.
    🍻

Shame that this track tends to be a lot of folk's intro to FNM & Patton's vocals. Personally I love his crooning moments more than the crazy Mr Bungle etc moments.
Not for a reaction vid (it's not a big track for FNM), but I reckon you'd enjoy "Star A.D." ruclips.net/video/xALb75mMnJ0/видео.html And if you want to absorb Patton's various voices, let that whole "King for a Day" album play thru from start to finish sometime while you're doing other stuff. It pretty much covers the gamut of what FNM does, from metal-ish to more playful & chill material. It also covers all of Patton's abilities (barring the really bonkers sh!t he does outside of FNM!). ;)
p.s. Mr Bungle (& various other Patton projects) is *very* much a niche thing- I wouldn't even bother trying it, it's a tad extreme for your lovely self! ;)

I suggest "Cone Of Shame", "Seperation Anxiety", "Midlife Crisis", "Easy", "Falling To Pieces" and "This Guy's In Love With You" just for funsies

Mike Patton owns the record label: Ipecac Records. "Music that makes you sick" - is their slogan. He signs artists that nobody else will touch. He actually signed a band made up of mentally challenged students in a special needs school called "The Kids Of Whidney High". Search RUclips for their song "The Insects Will Get You". Patton is legendary.🤘🏻

A legendary album from a legendary band. luv it. of course. But I do think that better experience of Mike's singing is on King for a day album, and even on "Album of the Year". Me thinks that Tomahawk, Mr.Bungle, and Peeping Tom are great, where as Fantomas and Dead Cross, are more of an acquired taste..

I have a lot to catch up on as far as Mike is concerned and I am not a bit put off at the sheer volume which is a nice feeling. Thanks for the recommendations and Thanks for watching again my dude! 😊

I had thought Faith No More were just happily spoofing dreary Grunge "metal", but if "they started in '79", and continued however long after early '90's, then I made a big, bad mistake. 🤔

I love FNM and even Epic but it's not the best showing for him. Try out Just a Man, Midlife Crisis, or go over to Pink Cigarette from Mr. Bungle. He's released so much material though someone could probably make a reaction channel just for him.
