I feel so bad for Jane, honestly. You can hear the last vestiges of her own mind slipping as she succumbs to whatever the hive is doing to control her.
and all that stuff in her voice that you hear is jon being just as scared
nah, she's just a crazy worm lady. let her give people worms, don't shame :D
At least she's so far gone that she's not suffering

the way he started off the statement sort of sounding like himself and then his voice sort of twisted and changed partway through fully into Jane’s voice was stunning i could hear her speaking through him so clearly
Same, he's such an amazing narrator
Guess hes just a really dedicated actor /j
It's been 3 yrs, so you know by now.
Jonny is an amazing voice actor. But yeah.... I love that without saying a word or pointing to it in any way, they alluded to something that was happening since episode one, and people Noticed.
Though I think this is the first episode that Jon himself is audibly shaken by it.
There was a comic I read as a child that had a characther that could speak through other people's mouths. I left this episode with the uneasy feeling that just happened to Jon, that thing spoke through him. I hope he is alright
@@Nizati Was it alluded to, or more so "patched up" by the explanation later? I think I recall Jon saying TMA wasn't really supposed to have a huge interconnected plot at first, and wasn't going to explain things, but ended up going that direction.
To me, it feels much more like a, "Oh, we don't know why Jon was getting so into method acting during the statements, but saying it's one of his powers as an archivist retroactively explains it quite nicely" situation. I could be wrong.
ok now im lowkey convinced jon is not a theatre nerd but instead some paranormal vessel for these statements, as probably all archivists are. hmm

Could be supernatural channeling, could be method acting.
There is nothing quite like fully putting yourself in someone else's mental state, particularly if their mental state is not pleasant.
I once method acted an insane cultist being actively tortured by the PCs for a D&D campaign I was running.
I find it EMINENTLY plausible that Jon is doing this all on his own with no supernatural forces involved anywhere.
yeah thats what im thinking, when somebody chokes etc. he does it perfectly, beyond acting. its really strange

Jane is connected to the hive mind, so she was able to mention something about "fools chasing fractals".
I'm pretty sure that there's a lot of references here to the recent(mostly) and future episodes.
Yeah the guy with the bleeding tree his father in his schizophrenia was obsessed with fractals. Died mysteriously to though it was ruled a suicide.
It seems to imply an awareness on Jane or the hive’s part of separate supernatural occurrences but makes them seem unrelated, or if related, only tangentially so.
Can we talk about how complex the hive is? It actually has some kind of intelligence, I’ll tell you why.
The hive already made several choices:
1) It can kill within minutes as it did in this episode with the hospital staff
2) It can infest smn permanently without killing but taking over the will and the mind of the host as it did with Jane
3) It can infest someone without them noticing and without taking over their will, as it did with the girl in Squirm
4) It apparently needs a host to reproduce (kinda like a virus), but it has to choose to use the host for that purpose: in fact the host produces an egg I think (saying this bc of squirm episode) and dies laying it. Maybe it can only be done with a female human bc they could need her reproductive system. Otherwise I don’t think the worms can mate, nor they multiply without the giant eggs
5) It can either attack people or lure them with the song, as it did with Jane (btw cool how many songs turn up in this series, the piper, the calliope, the thing in do not open, etc..)
Then what’s the hive for? Can they live outside hosts? Then why don’t they just stay in the hive? The worms don’t apparently need to feed constantly to stay alive.. Like they didn’t even feed on the nurses after killing them. Why do they infest people at all? Is it possible that the worms are just a tool controlled by a way more powerful entity? I don’t think it’s only them who want to kill John. It’s a way bigger issue, there are many entities collaborating. Something mustn’t be discovered by humans. It mustn’t be stopped.
Can everything be associated with the cult? I wanna know which entity the cult prays, maybe then we can figure out the “paranomal creatures” hierarchy, if they care about each other..
Maybe everything I said is bs but I love this series so much and I love making theories about it
GOD I KNOW THIS WAS 4 MONTHS AGO BUT GODDAMN
A++ on The Magnus Archives test! Bravo!

You were so into this theory that I recommend for you to watch 'The Strain' series

So is this Oliver the guy from Dreamer? He said he'd started working at a crystal store, and although his name wasn't Oliver in that statement I recall him saying he had given a fake name. I wonder if we'll see more of him in the future.
I thought of him too! He probably dreamed of her fate, given that she said he looked at her sadly, and later with horror.
yes actually! I can't say much more because of spoilers but it's him and he shows up again

11:05 "webs have a song as well, of course" DAYUM!!!!! GUYS!!!
It’s always been my head cannon that Jon’s super-empathetic. He has some kind of supernatural ability to put himself in others shoes and read in their voice, feel what they felt, loose himself in their story until he snaps out of his and looks back at it objectively.
I always imagine him shaking his head like coming out of a trance when he’s finished with the statement.
All the people he works with assume he just secretly is a theater nerd has a flair for the dramatics and maybe that’s also true but really he just... looses himself in another’s memory.
Well, this comment was a year ago. Good job with your insight - you're not wrong.
"I'm not one of those fools who chase fractals" maybe she is talking about the builder with schizophrenia's dad?
That’s what I was thinking too
Oh worm...
Every time I see this kind of comment they get more sad and apprehensive and I think that’s a good allegory for this series in general
Jon does not need to do voices every time, yet he does and the theatrics is adorable. I imagine he wouldn’t for *her*, but he does and I don’t know why but it’s so cute
I feel like he just gets like... bored of his job honestly, and the theatrics entertain him

Jons voice acting really popping off this episode !!!
I’m starting to believe that it’s not acting.
“As I watch you through the glass heating a SANDWICH”
Me: pauses midbite from my own sandwich
i keep relistening to this ep. might be my favorite. it just scratches all my horror itches (..lowkey an unfortunate expression to use for this episode)
"Sings that I am beautiful. Sings that I am a home. That I can be fully consumed by what loves me."
I'm in a toxic relationship and that hits way harder for me than any of the body horror.
"of Sight and Beholding" holy shit SHE KNOWS
The crazed tone in his voice. Beautiful.
"my dreams are crawling and *many legged*."
...... reminds me of our friend in Archanaphobia... he described his dreams and troubles with sleep similarly. Coincidentally, Jane also opens up with a phobia- Trypophobia.
Also in the statement made by the guy in Archanaphobia, he remarked about how the worms may attract spiders that eat them...? Maybe I'm reaching but these two people seem to have very similar mindsets, and I'm lead to believe that IF the spiders are a big thing like the worms, that they are the natural enemy of them..? Or maybe spiders are just, y'know, spiders and eat whatever the hell including otherworldly parasitic worms. Who knows, my brain made the interesting connection
Crackhead thought though: since the spiders encased the arachnaphobic dude in webs, what if they do that to each of the worms' victims to keep the worms from borrowing out? 🤔 idk lol but it's an interesting thought, though I do acknowledge that from what we know, the arachnaphobic dude was not a victim of the hive
ok when i made this comment I was 4 minutes in. 11 minutes now and when Jane said "webs have a song, too" it basically felt like it was affirming my thoughts. Like I will 100% go down with this ship, them worms n them spiders gonna duke it out in the apocalypse I swear to God
Also the spider that harassed the dude was silver, no? Just like Jane's worms are part silver. So... what about two paranormal parasites, but one based with worms, and one based with spiders?
And they could indeed be enemies! I mean, you wouldn't want another parasite running around stealing your potential hosts, right?
Martin also ran into Jane while investigating spider guy's apartment.
The trick with parasites, is that they can only infect so much. The rest feed upon them, or the infection process sees the parasite die as well. It is fitting a spider acts as their enemy.
1st time listener and I think maybe that Insects in general seem to have a supernatural quality to them which wouldn't be surprising. Spiders and how they work and the worms and how they work seem to have the same quality and eerily similar effects. Hornets haven't been seen but somehow I feel they too would draw in death and subsequent retribution by burrowing inside you. I don't know how but I'm sure of it. Maybe it all draws back to The Hive? It feels like it would.
Or maybe over 30 episodes in 2 days of this stuff is driving me mad 🤣😅
“My dreams are many legged” I just started watching and Jesus Christ the parallels are coming on strong

same LMAOOOO
YEAH UH THIS FEELS PERSONAL
Lmao yeaahhhh
as jon goes through these statements he's becoming more and more sucked into the people who have submitted them. he's stopped just pouring his heart out into the voice acting, it's like he's becoming a vessel
also.... ITS WORM TIME BABEY!!!!
OH GOSH! this is the "no fear/one fear" comic meme...oh boy. The horror is real!
wonder what she means about the fools consumed by fractals, how does she know about that? is that a common thing? and she talks about the institute being of knowledge and beholding, and it made me think about the key guy who talked about the beholding being better than flames (don't exactly remember his full words or if it was someone else other than the key guy, but i think it was the episode with the burn victims)... beholding is just such a weird word for another character to use, especially two weird characters who keep showing up ahhhhh i wish i could get through all these videos in one day there's so much i want to know i wanna see how it all comes together!!!
Showboat Rhinoceros the mention of fractals reminds me of the one episode with the construction worker with the father that had Schizophrenia. And his father became like obsessed with fractals and their shapes and forms.
Michael knows about Jane, and the thing that possessed the priest interacted with the thing that was haunting the house in Burned Out, so I wouldn't be surprised if she knew about whatever is associated with fractals. because there *has* to be a thing that's associated with fractals; they've been mentioned several times now. He/she says "beholding" with a slight emphasis too.
the way she described the nest also made me think of the way the woman described the table in the episode about the guy across the street that ate paper and got replaced by his doppleganger
so many magnus episodes are good but i just keep coming back to this one! it's so well acted, and the writing is chilling every time
At 9:00 is when I noticed that his voice REALLY starts to change.
You can notice the shakiness in his tone as if an elderly woman.
I gotta say, this is definitely one of the best acted episodes. The weariness and apprehension in Jon's voice, the erraticism of Jane's ramblings, *chef kiss*

@@letterinabottle3196 the fact that he named the Archivist after himself before he knew how involved the story was going to get is just *chef's kiss*
When Jane talks about the people studying fractals (like the dad of the statement giver in ep 8) I wonder if those people are studying the "fractured spaces" as I've been calling them, where space warps and people find themselves in much larger areas, or suddenly empty spaces like the cave, the slaughterhouse, the field and church in Alone, and more...

Okay, fucking EXCELLENT voice acting here. The way he reads Jane reminds me of Circus Baby- soft and slow, but with so much malice behind the words
I slightly traumatized my mother by quoting bits of this one to her. XD Especially "I itch" My favorite!
"that I may be consumed by what loves me" is one of the lines that really sticks with me, even through to season five
I itch all the time. Deep beneath my skin, where the bone sits, enshrined in flesh, I feel it.
Its kind of interesting that a eldrich monster would be angry about someone who just disregards it as unimportant.
Also, the obligatory.. oh worm?
oh my gods, this was.... insane. it was like we could feel Jane's insanity through her words. definitely my favorite by far!!!
The singing seemed to have began luribg Jane in longer ago but what descided her fate was that spider showing her the way.

Just how many lives had been forsaken in that web.
DAMN, the raw feeling in his voice made this episode ansolutely fanfuckingtastic! Indeed, it didn't say much new about Jane Prentiss, however... I felt like I understood lots simply from the voice acting itself. I do worry for Jon, though. While he does usually get carried away and voice acts statements, this was rather unlike himself - as if posessed. *shiver*
I just realised. 31 episodes. About 11 and a half hours of runtime. And this is the first time I've ever even heard him sound the tiniest bit happy, let alone LAUGH
I know it's just because he's impersonating someone crazy but it's a nice sound to hear, especially after the way he sounds so miserable. I mean I love the usual cold annoyed tone but this is just a rare delight ;)
Someone took bug collecting too far.
I love the subtlety here in his beginning log before the statement;
the subtle laxness, reluctance and even exhaustion in his voice, verses the acute, stoic monotone of previous statements shows the development of behind-the-scenes events taking a toll on him. I adore the acting here
This one put me on edge way more than all the other ones by far, just because Jon's voice was so crazed sounding.... don't get me wrong, all the other stories have been absolutely amazing, but Jon's retelling of this statement was simply terrifyingly terrific.
this is the first time i get why people have trypophobia holy shit
i hate it and love it at the same time
also, i love how jonathan is reading it so passionately and even laughs as jane at some point but hes still so scared at the end and in the beginning, hes either a VERY dedicated theater kid or thats a clue that hes also controled or something idk but its fun
I love this show but it doesn't often REALLY affect me. I listen to it exclusively during the day with my curtains open in the safety of my room. This episode made me feel so uncomfortable that I felt sick just drinking my cup of tea
15:13 I take this as her referring to her head, not an actual place. The metaphors coming around full circle
Gertrude, glancing over the statement after James left : (⊙_☉)
Yeah, considering that most of this statements went through Gertrude at some point, I do wonder, what was her reaction? Was she as sceptic as Jon? Or was she "What the f...?" after such statements?
the voice acting in this ep...... DAMN
absolutely Obsessed w/ 9:17. there's such a sense of finality n certainty
So, i noticed the sound of a beating heart amidst the whole audio, i know that it wasn't mine for i could feel mine beat nano instants after hearing it. I don't know it felt unsetling how i Just noticed, did it always had this sound in prior episodes or it was because it was jane's depoiment? If it was an agitaded beat, maybe could be sound of john's heart as he reads it, but it was so calm, beating steadily as if to drown the sound of my own, drawning it to pump in it's unnerving rhytm. Pretty spooky
Let's all appreciate the voices, shall we? The voice acting is just so perfect. It struck me in this episode ESPECIALLY.
Really stellar voice acting - there was a bit where the tone shifted up in a very feminine fashion. I'm impressed, very drawing.
Also, this has long been one of my favorite ways to write monsters/demons - not so much the insect bit - but definitely the symbiotic bit, giving a sense of belonging, etc.
It's sort of lovely and gripping in a terrible way. Very nice, lots of fun. ^.^
I always come back to this episode, even if it makes my skin crawl.... it's just so goood
Easily my favorite episode of the podcast so far, and despite the story of course progressing and becoming (even) more involving, even in retrospect I think this is the episode I think of when I realize just how beautiful Jonny's voice is. So soft and flowing...
This one... This one is really good.
as someone who read a book about guinea worms as a child and subsequently was mildly traumatised, this and all the other worm episodes unsettle me so very deeply. brilliant work!!
I remember when I was small I read this creepypasta about a girl whose acne meds got contaminated with worm eggs and what happened when they hatched; this keeps reminding me of that.
It's interesting that in this statement seems to reference other episodes (worms, darkness, flesh, neverending spaces, faces, loneliness, etc.). Seems like all fears were after this poor woman.....
When Jane was talking about how a class mate once told her that a blackhead was a hole in her face all I could think about was when I was in 1st grade and I had just found out that one of the kids who bullied me was allergic to bees so I told him that anything with a cluster of small dark holes could house tiny wasps and ants and such...
I now realy hope I did not give that boy a pathological fear at age 6
In previous episodes it’s always been odd the extent to which Sims gets into character-but with this episode, the real twist is that this whole time he was _holding back._
(Without a doubt the best episode so far, holy heck; perhaps it’s a little early to say, but there’s no way this isn’t a highlight of the series as a whole.)
man... I feel so bad for everyone, for Jane, for Sasha, Jon, Martin, everyone. but this is very interesting, and I can't wait to see what mysteries lie beyond... you might say, I'm ITCHING to see what's next?... really only SCRATCHING the surface?................ :D

"I remember, before I found the nest, someone new came. His name was Oliver, and he would look at me so strangelly, not with lust or affection or content... but, with sadness" Mr. Banks, this u?
This is such a good piece of foreshadowing if you think about it-like a sort of thematic parallel to Jon as he continues on in the series and becomes progressively more The Archivist, especially around season four.
"are you familiar with trypophobia" *que instant panic* they weren't joking about having an episode for every fear, I thought that was to niche to be targeted. It bothers me because it makes me think of infected skin and I have ocd/dermatillomania. during bad episodes I have to keep the light off in my bathroom so I don't see my skin in the mirror.
I'm to interested in the story to skip it though
Ok big spoilers
