Great review! I like the look of the Detachments also as it captures the types of forces the Hive mind would send out for different stages when taking over a planet, really cool!

I like the look of the Detachments here, definitely each have their own strong theme running through them.
A bit of an admin-type question here, Luke..... But has there been any sort of indication that each set of Detachment rules will get their own data card? I'm hoping it'll be like the Index Card set, so that we won't have to keep flicking back to different pages of a hardback Codex.
Yes agreed detachments looking good. I have no inside info...at a guess I don't see data cards coming. The current ones would work OK with a few little rules updates for them.

If Ripper Swarms have the Harrvester Keyword (they should by the background, as they live to go around and eat biomass...), you could find a way to add hideble small or very big-hard to kill Harvester units to keep the buffs going...
the Norns feel underwhelming yeah? for those points all they have is some 2+ saves and 16 wounds but they can't do a whole lot unless they get to engage a very specific target? the Lictors losing their invul saves almost has to be a typo? it's the sama datasheet but they removed their 5+ invul and only knocked off 5 points. Looked like the pyrovore and biovore had the same statline which is a bit of a shame considering the new aswesome models.
The Norn emissary is literally a criminally overcosted hive tyrant 😭😭😭😭 I knew GW would ruin this stunning model rules wise. It literally does nothing on the tabletop! The assimilator is twice the size of a dreadnought but hits like a normal bog standard dreadnought. 300 point models which doesn’t bother me but they’ve got AWFUL combat capabilities
Yeah 6 strength 9 basic attacks at -2, 3d on the Tyranid ultimate alpha predator beasts is pretty underwhelming for their pts. The assimilator getting 4 bonus s12 attacks brings it's threat up a lot though, and one having bigger bonus attacks Vs the other having a 4+ invuln makes it a nice difference to choose between

The emissary needs to be seriously FAQ it’s really underwhelming for the ultimate predator beast for Nids. Models are stunning but rules wise they’re below average! I’m not even mad about 300 points it’s just the combat mechanics is embarrassing 🙈

It's still wild to me that the codex has the same cover and inner lining as the 9th edition one. It feels... Wrong.
I was so worried that GW would release a beautiful new model like the Norn Emissary make it around 300 points in game and have awful combat capabilities 😭😭
Strength 9 with 6 attacks ap-2 and 3 damage it literally does nothing. Biggest flop GW EVER 😭😭😭😭😭 it’s like a 285 point carnifex/hive tyrant with psychic attacks. Should be hitting like a dreadnought as standard S12/14.
S9 with 6 attacks wouldn’t be butchering custodes like it supposedly did in the lore

Assimilator is far better the emissary literally does nothing in combat
I noticed the biovore and pyrovore got an extra wound, and the standard lictor lost it's invul save!
GW pockets are quite closed for Tyranids. Overall weaker than in 9th, with good ideas but not so impacting attack capability...😢
I will still try the different detachment rules though, but for sure I will try not to buy the Codex.😊
Rippers should have harvster keyword thematically, but expect they dont for rules/game/$$ gotta sell phage. do they have the keyword?

I really thought detachments would be like ‘Leviathan detachment’ or ‘Behemoth detachment’ and then when we get to Space Marines, you would get ‘Ultramarines detachment’ or ‘Imperial fists’ detachments, allowing a bit of that flavour to come back in.
"flavor" thats not flavor thats an entirely different meal. if Im using my own custom painted army i dont want to run it as "Leviathan fleet" i want to run it as a Harvester fleet. I want nothing to do with these stupid named existing armies i want to run MY army
If they did that how could they sell you another book for Imperial Fists or whatever later?
