I've hit 203 after a long run and a hard dash at the end.

Do we train max heart rate? I am 62 years old and back when I was 58-61 It was really rare that I hit 172 bpm, and I never exceeded 172. This year I several times hit 174 and 175, and even 181 once (Garmin 745 wristwatch-metered). I have been training (biking) by average 7 hours a week for 10 months and wonder if increased max heart speed is a reward for this raining.

I wonder , is it possible to assume could one use ketone strips to test if you've you've been training in zone 2 and extrapolate from that?

Look up Heart Rate Reserve method. Need your max and resting heartrate (at night, over several days).
Newer Garmins will calculate zones based on HRR.
