    The key is it will FIT on a 1/2 ton but at 1500lbs dry weight almost all 1/2 tons will be over payload capacity especially after adding a driver, a passenger and cargo at that point you’re 2000+ lbs. Adding springs or other suspension improvements won’t change your axle or payload ratings, you’ll just be level while overloaded.

    • @Tsiri09
      @Tsiri09 4 года назад +7

      You're right on the money. CARRY WEIGHT, not pulling weight is what's important here. Trucks are listed with both, and you can't ignore either.

    • @AndreasDuessca
      @AndreasDuessca 4 года назад +1

      3200lbs payload is not unusual for a 1/2 truck.

    • @CL-xk8iw
      @CL-xk8iw 4 года назад +3

      @@AndreasDuessca For a standard F150, Chev or Ram 1500 or a Tundra it is. You can configure a F150 with a heavy duty package that basically turns it into a F250 without the F250 nameplate. The ad was it would fit any 1/2 ton, it won’t.

    • @amydelpiere9315
      @amydelpiere9315 4 года назад +6

      If you add any options like the air conditioner it will bump up that weight also. I think this camper will be good for a solo traveler who doesn't want a heavy-duty truck and knows how to pack light. I added up the camper, an awning, about 20 gallons of water, and a couple of normal-sized people and got 2,035 lbs. At that weight, you are really close to the max payload of most US 1/2 tons that have been outfitted with a manufactures payload upgrade. If I threw out the husband I'd be able to drive around with some food, cookware, a tablet, clothing, and my Kindle. What more do ya need?

    I see quit a few commenters comparing this to a 5th wheels and trailers. You put this on a capable 4X4 truck, you can go places where a trailer and 5th wheels can't. This is the main selling point of s slide in truck camper. Of all the truck campers made in North America by all the manufacturers, nuCamp has the most modern design look.
    If I'm ever in the market for a hard side truck camper, this is it, I'm currently looking at pop up campers (Hawk by FourWheeelCampers).

    Okay let's talk about the cost of this camper, $35,000 starting price, it's a nice camper but if you buy one in a few years the deprecation will put the value at half of what you paid for it if you can find a buyer for it (they won't be banging your door down to buy it). Now for $50,000 you can buy yourself a 2021 16 foot Airstream travel trailer, a top of the line travel trailer that has very little deprecation and twice as much room and if you want to sale it people will be kicking your door down to buy it. I'm not an airstream owner or salesman but that extra $15,000 buys you twice as much room inside, a real bed, and a real bathroom, it's a no-brainer.

    I think they should've went with a Dometic Burner Sink combo and moved the fridge across next to it. I get it that they're trying to cut weight for a half ton payload capacity but at least fabricate a light weight & efficient partition to hide yourself from using the toilet.

    Surprised they didn't show the roof or what happens to the table when you take it away. Also how hard does the table unfasten? Who knows. I would have shown the interior with all lights off too. This way you could have had an idea of how much outside light is bleeding through. Would have given a better idea on how much lighting there is here. Some nice features here. I was waiting for this - but $30K??? $15K and you have a winner. This is DOA. For an operation the size of Nucamp, they could have made this cheaper. Yes, people are thinking of RVing with the pandemic, but vaccines are coming out and not many will spend $40K with taxes for a 1/2 ton truck camper. It's too small and limited for the hardcore RVers who will spend that money,. and too expensive for the casual buyer.

    • @jmpattillo
      @jmpattillo 4 года назад

      I think 15k is asking a bit much. Check out the Kimbo camper for 1/2 tons. The best they can do is 20k for a basic unit.

    • @PrincessCraft
      @PrincessCraft  3 года назад +2

      From a dimension fitment standpoint, it will fit modern short and long truck beds of 1/2 ton, 3/4 ton, and 1 ton pickup trucks. From a payload capacity, you'll want to be certain that a 1/2 ton pickup is equipped with the manufacturer's Maximum Payload package, like Ford's "Heavy-Duty Payload Package." (Option Code 627 for the 2021 models) For example, depending on the configuration, Ford says their 3.5L EcoBoost V6 can achieve up to 3,250 lbs of payload capacity with that package and their 5.0L Ti-VCT V8 can achieve 3,325 lbs with option code 627. Often these numbers are on stripped down, single cab, 2-wheel drive, long bed pickups... which aren't terribly common. We have seen the common Super-Crew, short bed trucks with 4x4 transmissions AND the "Heavy-Duty Payload Package" have lower payload capacities, in the ballpark of 700 to 1000-ish lbs decrease. We do stress to interested buyers to verify their truck's manufacturer-rated payload capabilities before going forward with a truck camper purchase. The manufacturer of this camper, nuCamp RV, designed this to fit modern and appropriately equipped/rated 1/2 ton and larger pickup trucks. Hope this helps.

      You can add a camper package to the F-150 and be well within this weight limit. Requires the 5.0 v8 and some other stuff but if equipped right this truck camper should be no problem. You are correct in that most of the luxo-barge 1/2 ton "trucks" out there are too weak. But, they have nice leather ;-)

    • @roundsm18
      @roundsm18 2 года назад

      1500 lbs is under the payload for all of them, which increases with the package selection. That’s why camper packages and suspension packages are a thing.
      Modern half tons do a lot, and I say this while calling a 1 ton dually the baby truck. They’re not what they used to be.
