  • So, today we are out and about walking in the Cotswold village & civil parish of Coln St. Aldwyns which is located in the county of Gloucestershire, England. Coln St. Aldwyns is only a few miles away from the villages of Bibury & Fairford and also just 9 miles away from the very well known Cotswold town of Cirencester. At the time of the 2011 census the village had a population of 271. The village is nestled nicely in the Coln River valley.
    The parish church is dedicated to St. John the Baptist and is a Grade II listed building. The majority of the church was built in the late 12th and early 13th century with some renovations taken place in the 19th century.
    Amenities in the village consist of Coln Stores which also has a Sub-Post Office and the popular 'The New Inn'. The New Inn is a 16th century coaching inn with 15 exquisite en-suite bedrooms. The New Inn has a good rating on 'Tripadvisor'.
    This walk is split into two parts, with both parts filmed on separate days, originally, the intention was to film in just one take...but can you probably guess why I decided to come back another day? As it turned out, splitting it into two parts / days, worked out rather well, as each day tells a different story in a way...
    Thanks for walking with me.

    Beautiful countryside! The familiar pattern of stone wall with the vertical capstones. I wonder if this stone wall type is indicative to the Cotswold's though there are the flat capstones also. It is a shame that beautiful building "Coln Mills' stands empty. I coluld almost smell that white rose! Glad you had your umbrella and congrats on 15K! Woo Hoo! Thank you, AOOW

      Good Afternoon, Jeff. Thank you for the comment. I think that this style of dry stone walling is not entirely unique to the Cotswolds, it can be seen throughout the UK, however, the type of stone used (Limestone) is indicative of the Cotswolds, I should think. Thanks, Jeff. OAAW

      Thanks, JATC :). It was not until I started to watch the walk back, It sounded like I was being stalked by a single crow in the first few minutes of the walk (I can’t hear too much as I walk due to the microphones in the ears). Hope you are having a nice weekend and getting out for some more good walks ;. OAAW

    Lovely, as usual. As a Canadian, I'm curious about this village and its parking by-laws. 22 minutes in. Parking half on the sidewalk (pavement?) would be strictly illegal here and probably have you towed away. .Perhaps these motorists have a special permit? Good luck to pedestrians who have to cross the road to be safe.

      Thank you, John. That is a very good question. I believe a vehicle should not partially park on a pavement unless there are signs in place granting permission to do so but please do not quote me on this as I may be wrong. All the best to you from a very hot 🇬🇧. OAAW

    Still playing your videos with some low-fi songs in the background and it's a vibe. Really recommend

    • @OutandaboutWalking
      @OutandaboutWalking  Год назад

      Good Morning, Tray. I can imagine that works really well. Just out of interest, do you mute the video sound or keep it going whilst having the low-fi in the background? Sometime ago, I did a rain walk in a town centre at 4:00 am, it was dark, the rain was beating down on the umbrella, also there were lovely reflections on the streets from artificial lighting which all made for a really chilled atmosphere. I then wrote some dystopian style ambient music and put it over the top of the video, that was quite a vibe too :). Anyway, thanks for your support. All the best to you. OAAW

      @@OutandaboutWalking I don't mute it, so I can hear the background sounds and listen to the song on low. My friend has been playing Love Me Again and it's been stuck in my head. So I started playing it with your video which is nice. I'll definitely do it with your nightime video.

    • @OutandaboutWalking
      @OutandaboutWalking  Год назад +1

      Hello and thank you for the comment / question. I get asked this question quite a lot...Yes, the sounds are the real sounds which are recorded the same time as the walk. They sound vivid and clear because the audio is recorded with two Binaural microphones, take a listen with headphones on, it will sound like you are actually there ;) All the best to you.

    • @OutandaboutWalking
      @OutandaboutWalking  Год назад +1

      Hi, Tabitha. Thank you so much for hitting the nail right on the head! So often I am accused for faking the wildlife sounds (especially in the Eastleach video!) But the reality is when I am out recording early morning walks, the wildlife in and around the villages is usually super loud (especially as there is little man made noise pollution at that time of day). So, anyway thank you for reaffirming. Whatever you are doing this weekend, have a good one :). OAAW
