The meaning is two fold. 1) It is a reference to Stockholm Syndrome : "feelings of trust or affection felt in many cases of kidnapping or hostage-taking by a victim toward a captor" In this case the captor is his wife. 2) It's also a reference to actually playing a gig in Stockholm, Sweden, and wanting to get home to see his wife (who isn't/wasn't always on tour with him).
another idea is that the captor in this instance of Stockholm syndrome is alcoholism, it's no secret that Isbell once was an addict, and this could have been a retrospective song about drinking his life away and, at the time, not wishing to get better
@@shekelwarlocke That's perfect actually, there were inconsistencies with the Stockholm syndrome of a lover part. (Why "let me go home") But wanting to be released from dependency due to having fallen in love is perfection.
I' so glad Letterman knew of this man. He was a lover of good music and used his influence to promote so many great artists.
Isbell is the best singer songwriter in generations
He’s amazing. Best songwriter of my generation. Someone to aspire to being half as good as.
Very proud of this band and that they are from my small music town , much love to them !
You should be proud with all you had to do with it! :)
Such a great song! 2 people so in love!
Songs like this are why 50% of the songs I know how to play on guitar are Isbell songs. Such a smart premise
I can't wait to see him tomorrow!
Was great before, during and after DBT. Love all of Jason's music. Nice guy and very approachable after shows, too. :-D
This only makes me miss Letterman more!
He makes it look easy. Like "Flying Over Water" this is timeless.
ouch, Amanda!
Had no idea this cat was from Bama, Letterman either, til jus now. Damn, we just keep crankin' em out. Bama proud.
Leterman was totally kidding
ProfessionalDad jason is actually from alabama though
Glad I found you
Great song.
Great songs, band too
At a quick glance, it looks like Patterson Hood on bass. Haha.
it's Jimbo!!! :)
Letterman might even pronounce his name right one day....
No one will ever pronounce his name right.
Isbell... like nipple :)
It’s like a sentence:
Jason Is Bull.
Anyone know the background to why he wrote this song, what is his connection with Stockholm?
Grown Men it may make reference to "Stockholm Syndrome" i.e. falling in love with your abuser.

adumbberg I saw Isbell in Stockholm a couple of years ago and he played this song looking out over the city. Perfect moment.

Sucks when tv shows make em play to a backing track
Dave it's pronounced Isbull.
7-23-14 ?????
Jason is even great in the future
The date is actually 2/23/2014. It is a typographical error.
Can't you just let me have decoration day and then leave in peace?
This sucks. I've seen alligators with better teeth.
It has been 6 years since you made this comment. Have you improved as a person since then?
Very strange is your comment.
