I bought that DVD, and it's just solid gold. Words can't really describe it. If I were just a few years older, like 8-10, I could have seen them. At least I got to see him sing for Tony in 1992, front row.
This song was written by Ritchie Blackmore and David Coverdale. Here's what Coverdale said about it: "We recorded "Mistreated" from 11pm to 7:30 in the morning. I heard the first playbacks and thought it was terrible. It was so bad I just sat down and cried because I wanted it to be so good. Then the next night we had another session and I did it on the second take. It's like progressive blues. I wasn't raised in a shack by the railroad tracks but I've still had emotional hassles and that's the only kind of blues I can interpret. I tried very hard because I knew it was essential to get the strong emotive quality the song needs. The thing I wanted was for somebody listening to the song to think: 'I know what he's talking about' and get the feeling, then the song would be worth it. It's essentially a physical feeling. The reason it didn't come off straight away was simply that I was trying too hard."
Whoa, Coverdale really gets it's In regards to how someone who hasn't grown up in the way a bluesman normally would can still play authentic and real music.
Wow, thanks for sharing that! I would LOVE to know what Coverdale thought of RJD's version of it... Always liked Coverdale on the few interviews I've heard...
I saw a vid of a live performance back in the day and Coverdale introduced the song by saying, Ritchie wrote this a few years ago, which would have been Gillan's time.

@@szalonywariat7521 Ronnie James Dio and lyrical singers like Franco Corelli, Del Monaco and Caruso are the most virtuous and naturally talented singers I have ever heard, within my understanding of vocal physiology, I do not know of any singer who had an extreme level of mastery of the muscular mechanism and the vocal manipulation capacity as consistent live as these singers and especially Dio who stands out a lot in this context, he sang for more than 40 years, most of the time with a perfect command of the modern open throat technique at an extremely advanced level in register chest voice, with a fantastic degree of glottic compression and resistance and he sang without any noticeable muscular tension in his facial expressions and effortlessly for practically his entire career, Dio evolved his vocals dramatically over the years and became increasingly better and better as he got older and gaining even more range, Dio evolved vocally for more than 30 years of pure peak and after his voice aged naturally, he kept his voice at a great level even after he was 60 and without having any technical problems with his voice until the end of his life, compared to the voice problems that many rock and metal singers had due to the instability of the motor coordination of their vocal structures due to excess friction in the voice.

This version is so, so amazing. This is so much better than the original version of the song. This is probably one the best vocal performance of the whole Ronnie James Dio career. Blackmore is also freakin great: listen to that intro! THIS is rock'n'roll.
I’m not sure why, but Ronnie really shines as the frontman for other masters of their crafts. In particular Rainbow and Sabbath…. Even the later Heaven & Hell material is truly RJD at his best!!! They all ramped each others game way up to eternal status!!!

From personal view...the best rockblues song ever performed by a band...long great improvisation from blackmore in middle, classic rock playing on his guitar... bob daisley, david stone and cozy powell backing great singing Ronnie James Dio, he sung vs amazing quality and opera feel. Rainbow in the mid and late 70s were an pure heavy rock/ metal band... doing the best possible music...stargazer, mistreated or catch the rainbow ect. are an evidence of how amazing blackmores ideas and songwriting were.
It doesn’t get any better than this! Dio! Blackmore! Cozy and all musicians in this concert are outstanding. Mistreated wasn’t written for Dio but is for shure his song! Coverdale wasn’t bad but this is something else! We will sadly never see anything like it again but this will go on repeat!
I have found over the years that there are some songs who are written for certain performers, the writer may not know it at the time but there are several that come to mind such as, All along the watchtower by Bob Dylan for Jimi Hendrix, hurt by nin for johnny Cash, and this one. The original songs are great but these performances and many more like them were special.
Holy shit the chemistry of Ronnie and Ritchie together was something the world has never seen before or since. This has to be one of the best concerts ever recorded. Thank you for posting!

I'm not sure if I have seen this performance before but WOW incredible performance but Ronnie James Dio and Ritchie Blackmore it's sad that Ronnie is not here with us anymore to amaze us with his vocal talent and it's sad what happened to Ritchie he was incredibly gifted guitar player and he's not performing anymore
What a voice, what a tight band, shades of Deep Purple, man there was so much really really good universal music back then, incredible players and poets, may they all live one in the universal music within.without our minds forever.
I had the privilege of seeing Dio at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto on January 9, 1988. Was blown away at the time, probably the best metal vocalist I've seen out of the 40 or so different concerts I've been to over the years. Just incredible!

one of the greatest vocal performances ever .
No band that ever existed would want to follow this force of nature's set. Simply the greatest band to ever plug in.
Newark, NJ, exported its greatest voice and us and Rainbow gained from him coming to this side of the pond, still one of the best bands
Como provar em 10 min que Dio foi o melhor vocalista de Heavy Metal de todos os tempos.
7:32-7:38 Gooooooosebumps!!!
A singer/songwriter/musician and the best reason to travel back in time. 3 letters.
Stargazer is right there too!!!
Так то домашняя песня Ковердела, но Рони сделал с Ричи очень неплохо, жесть, спасибо!
@@archibaldsalyards926 I think its
Holy shit the chemistry of Ronnie and Ritchie together was something the world has never seen before or since.
This has to be one of the best concerts ever recorded. Thank you for posting!
Hells bells ! THIS iS darned amazing . Dio vocals ? 'off the scale 'out of this world ' incredible .Ritchie Blackmore's guitaring is 'off the scale ' spine tinglingly brilliant beyond words .The guy is 'god ' of the guitar .'the governer .A TRUE legend .Will rainbow be releasing new music in 2022/2023 ? REALLY hope so .Will Ritchie tour again with rainbow ? I think he will .
Ronnie James Dio was a powerhouse of vocal perfection. I’m so glad I got to see him live.
RIP RJD
Fucking spine chillingly brilliant . Ritchie guitar work ? THE greatest 'rock guitaring god ' at his thundering genius best . Dio . THE greatest rock vocalist of all time .
This is absolutely bloody magnificent!
I was saw them live in 76 and 77. Just as awesome now as then!!
Incredible, I feel 16 again!
Love this lineup
Wow! Thank you for those who mentioned this version of this song in comments of another Dio song. First time hearing it and I am blown away!
Yeah, these songs from the 1977 Munich concert are so very good. If you haven't listen to "Catch the Rainbow" from this concert, you should.
One of the best live performances ever!
Одна из лучших композиций !
That voice is better than Mercury
7:10 should be illegal. Its a fucking drug. Its the best solo riff ever written and executed
Pena que hoje não temos nem 10% desse talento nos artistas. DIO Gigante.
What a voice, what a tight band, shades of Deep Purple, man there was so much really really good universal music back then, incredible players and poets, may they all live one in the universal music within.without our minds forever.
100% agree, it is amazing how well Daisley and Stone fit in so well in a short period of time. They were tight.
7:30 Cozy's long fill, Dio's scream... epic
У Дио редчайший дар исполнять каверы лучше оригиналов
I had the privilege of seeing Dio at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto on January 9, 1988. Was blown away at the time, probably the best metal vocalist I've seen out of the 40 or so different concerts I've been to over the years. Just incredible!
Ritchie Blackmore - God Guitar!
Une version tout simplement magique de Mistreated ❤..., la meilleure à mon avis❤❤❤
